US President Barack Obama on the first day of his India visit on Nov 6 announced USD 10 billion in trade deals with India that are expected to help pay for 54,000 US jobs. Addressing US India Business Council meet, Obama stated, "Boeing is going to sell dozens of planes to India and GE is going to sell hundreds of electric engines. The deals are worth USD 10 billion and will create more than 50,000 jobs in the US." To make trading easier for US companies to do business with India, Obama also unveiled new export rules.
Some of the changes, including relaxing controls on India's purchase of so-called "dual use" technologies that could be used for civilian or military purposes, have been top priorities for the business community.
