Uttar Pradesh police has arrested the tainted BSP MLA, Purushottam Dwivedi, in connection with the rape case of a minor Dalit girl. Sources reported that police arrested while he was going to surrender before the court. Earlier on Wednesday, Jan 12, UP government ordered to arrest him after the CB-CID report which claimed his involvement in the brutal incident. Purushottam Dwivedi has gone absconding which resulted outrage in many parts of the state.
The incident of the rape came to light when the girl was arrested after a complaint from Purushottam accusing her of stealing money, clothes and jewellery from his home. Later the accused girl, while appearing before the junior division civil judge Ravi Kumar Gupta, said in her statement that she was raped twice by Dwivedi. After growing pressure from different political parties, Mayawati government suspended the rapist MLA and ordered for CB-CID inquiry. The investigative agency found his hands behind the rape and also found that the theft case against the girl was false.
