Having been caught off-guard by the huge public response to social activist Anna Hazare’s indefinite fast on the Lokpal Bill, a nervous government today dispatched four Cabinet ministers, including Pranab Mukherjee, to woo yoga guru Baba Ramdev who is set to begin an indefinite fast against corruption and black money from June 4. The two-hour confabulations, however, failed to convince Baba Ramdev, who later announced that his plan to sit on fast remained unchanged. “The satyagraha from June 4 will continue as per plans,” he announced, adding that this agitation will spread from Ramlila grounds to 624 districts in the country with over one crore people participating in it on the first day itself.A 2.5 lakh square metre waterproof marquee has been erected, massive cut-outs of Baba Ramdev have been put in place, and thousands of his followers have reached the site. Ramlila ground -- the venue for the yoga guru's proposed hunger strike -- is bustling with activity even before the fast begins June 4. Speaking to IANS about the arrangements for Saturday, Jaideep Arya, spokesperson for Baba Ramdev, said: "With just two days to go for the mass protest fast, we have erected a 2.5 lakh square metre overhead waterproof tent where all the Baba's disciples will sit on fast with him." About 250 labourers are giving the final touches to the huge marquee. Arya said the ground has been booked for a month since it is an indefinite hunger strike. "We have erected a volunteer centre at the extreme end of the maidan and volunteers from various states are staying there. Basic facilities like 650 bathrooms and toilets have been stationed inside the maidan, out of which 40 percent will be for women," Arya said. The massive ground will be swarmed by Baba Ramdev's followers, thousands of whom from northeast and southern states have already reached the venue. Talking about the schedule for the D-day, Arya said the day will start with morning prayers at 5 a.m., followed by the fasting programme. "We are also planning to hold some yoga camp, but it is not finalised," he added. Apart from the massive tent, "we are also providing drinking water facility, medical facility and a media centre with three communication towers", he added. The spokesman said besides the national capital, rallies will be held across the country.
What is the plan of Baba which shall be implemented by the Goverment? If it is in the same line with that of Jan lokpal Bill which is beinga already drafted by a committee of ten (5 from Govt and 5 from Civil group) and going to the monsoon session of parliament, then Baba shall give his total strength for seeing the draft and put opinion to make it more effective in eradicating corruption. It is like re inveting the wheel already put in running trial but in the draft stage. Let him energy and power with all his disciples directed this as an anti corrupion movement and let all indians in all the villages, districts, citites of all states in India join this movement in the same spirit as we did in freedom movement to drive the Britishers from India. We shall not stop till we drive corrupted people from every corner of our society. I am sue only a planned movement like driving Britishers will help India to drive corruption, Let this a Mantra for all who loves India as a citizen of nationality and honesty.
