Rajasthan CM Gehlot assure for all support to Save tigers

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday assured the State Assembly that his government would extend all support to the tiger recovery plan for the Sariska Tiger Reserve even as the Opposition demanded a CBI probe into the death of two young tigers outside the Ranthambhor National Park this past weekend. More tigers would be shifted soon to Sariska from Ranthambhor, Mr. Gehlot informed. The tigers issue came up for the second time in the Assembly in the past four days as BJP member Gajendra Singh Kheevsar, who had put up a question on the number of tigers in Sariska, blamed the State Government for not taking steps to complete the first phase of the recovery plan by re-locating more tigers from Ranthambhor.
Environment and Forests Minister Ramlal Jat, who answered the basic question, said three tigers – two females and a male -- had been shifted so far from Ranthmabhor to Sariksa under the recovery plan and two more would be airlifted soon. The revised proposal from NTCA was to catch the tigers which were moving outside Ranthambhor Park. “We are closely monitoring their movements. Once we manage to catch them we will shift one male tiger and a female tiger to Sariska,” he said.

Rajasthan Royals starts IPL journey with Mumbai Indians on Saturday

Rajasthan Royals starts IPL journey with Mumbai Indians on Saturday. Mumbai have so far failed to live up to the hype and expectation of their passionate fans. Can they get off to winning ways against the Royals in IPL3 on Friday. Venue and conditions: The Brabourne stadium surface in Mumbai may not satisfy those wanting a run feast. In the eight 50-over internationals played there, no side has scored more than 234. There is a slight toss bias, too. Five of the last seven ODIs were won by the side batting second.
This is something of a phoney war with both sides waiting for their star men to show up. Rajasthan are without Shane Watson, player of the inaugural tournament, while Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard are with West Indies instead of Mumbai. However, Rajasthan can call on their South Africa pair - Graeme Smith, Morne Morkel - and Shaun Tait, the Aussie fast bowler, who is fifth on the list of all-time best Twenty20 strike rates. Zaheer Khan is fit for Mumbai after overcoming a muscle twinge but JP Duminy is likely to miss out with split webbing. Essex's Graham Napier could come in.

BSNL, DoT and Pitroda committee on BSNL IPO

Department of telecommunications has raised serious concern over suggestions made by the Sam Pitroda committee for sweeping changes in state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. The recommendations include divestment of 30 percent government equity in BSNL, reducing the company's workforce by a third, and cancelling the telecom equipment order for 93 million GSM lines, replacing it with network outsourcing deals. It is learnt that Communications and IT Minister A Raja is likely to write a letter to the Prime Minister's office (PMO) expressing his displeasure over the report. "The report by Pitroda offers a long-term solution. . . it does not address the existing issues and the concerns that may arise while following the long-term plan," a top functionary in the ministry told Media.
Asked why the ministry was raising objections when the telecom secretary himself was part of the committee, the official said he (telecom secretary) was not involved while preparing the report on BSNL. The functionary said the committee had not undertaken any groundwork to learn about the functioning of BSNL and the unions. It also suggested changes without even analysing the consequences of the suggestions. The functionary also made it clear that the proposals, though cleared by the BSNL board, would be difficult to implement without the support of the unions. "The unions were not consulted on VRS or the divestment. We don't see how they can be implemented without their support." The unions have been opposing the company's proposed initial public offer since it was approved in 2007.
