M S Dhoni gets engaged with Sakshi Singh Rawat

Indian captain MS Dhoni's first love, cricket, now has some serious competition. The 28-year-old heartthrob of millions got engaged to Sakshi Singh Rawat, a Kolkata girl in her early 20s at a quiet ceremony in Dehradun on Saturday night. Family sources in Ranchi confirmed the development. It is unsurprising that Dhoni, known as Captain Cool, chose a hill station for the no-frills ceremony. The function, according to sources, took place at Bhagirathi Resorts at Selaqui, about 20 km from the hilltown. The engagement took place at 6.30 pm. Rings were exchanged in the presence of relatives from both sides who arrived in three busses. India players Ashish Nehra and Harbhajan Singh were also present.

Sakshi, who studied at the famous Welham Girls' School in Dehradun, is studying hotel management in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Sources said the couple had been seeing each other for nearly two years. The couple holidayed together in Mussoorie and Dehradun last year.

Rajasthan CM calls Rajasthanis across the world for development

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has called up on Rajasthanis settled in different parts of the world, to help in finding out ways for fast progress and prosperity of the desert state. Addressing a function in New York organised by jewellers of Jaipur settled in US, yesterday, Mr Gehlot said "Rajasthanis residing in India and abroad should meet periodically on one forum at least once in every two-three years and discuss ways for speedy development and progress in Rajasthan". He said the first International Rajasthani Conclave was organised in the year 2000 in Jaipur during the previous tenure of this government.
The Chief Minister said Rajasthanis from India and abroad had taken part in that conclave and had discussed ways and means for putting the state forward on the path to progress. Mr Gehlot said over the years Jaipur had emerged as an important international destination. Praising the policies and the work of the UPA led Government at the Centre, he said because of the policies and actions of the government India had to suffer less on account of economic slow down as compared to other countries. Earlier,jewellers of New York felicitated the Chief Minister and other Ministers who presently were on a five day visit to the US.

Nine IOCL officers nabbed for Jaipur Depot fire

Nine Indian Oil Corporation(IOC) personnel including then depot General Manager Gautam Bose, were arrested today in connection with the devastating fire at the oil giant's Sitapura depot here on October 29, 2009. The police arrested them in connection with the case of culapable homicide and criminal negligence on duty which had led to the tragedy which left 11 people dead, depot premises and many industrial units in the adjoining Sitapura Industrial area were badly damaged in the incident, a police spokesman said. A case in this connection was already pending in a local court here.
Besides Mr Bose, then Chief Operation Manager Rajesh K Chail, Senior Manager Shashank Shekhar, Terminal Manager KS Kanojiya, Deputy Terminal Manager Kapil Kumar Goyal, Operation Incharge Ashok Gupta, Pipeline Incharge SS Gupta, Valve Incharge KN Agrawal, and Senior Manager Mr Ojha were also arrested. They will be produced before the trial court tomorrow for hearing in the case lodged under sections 385,386,387,336,337,427,304A, 304-II and 166 of IPC, the spokesman said.

Mansoon weak in Rajasthan, water supply time reduced in Jaipur

Rajasthan and with little sign of the monsoon's arrival, water scarcity has worsened in the state. With the monsoon delayed by nearly two weeks, the Bisalpur Dam, the main source of water for the cities of Jaipur and Ajmer is in danger of drying up by July 30. The Rajasthan and Gehlot government have prepared an Emergency Plan. Private tubewells will be used for water supply by the government and even borewells in parks and gardens will be used to provide water to people through tankers. "We have finalised an emergency scheme. We will use tubewells to supply water to people. Jaipur's daily share of water from the Bisalpur dam will now be made half and some colonies on the city's outskirts will now get water once in 2 days," said Mahipal Maderna, Water Minister, Rajasthan.
The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has reduced water supply time by 10 minutes in some areas in the city from Thursday. The department officials said the timing of the supply was reduced in Vidhyadhar Nagar, Vaishali Nagar, Vishwakarma Industrial area, Ambabadi and Mansarovar in the city. The measures were taken to tide over the crisis facing the city and stretch the resources considering the delay of the monsoon in the state. Meanwhile, people took to the streets in protest against the alleged erratic supply of water in their localities. About a 100 protesters including women led by BJP MLA Kalicharan Saraf jammed Tilak Marg in Raja Park and later mobbed the nearby PHED office demanding resumption of water supply and strengthening of tanker supply system.

India's Leander Paes and his mixed doubles partner Zimbabwean Cara Black advanced to the Wimbledon's semi-finals Thursday and with the win Paes and his partner set to clash with Lukas Dlouhy and his Czech mate Iveta Benesova Friday to fix their berth in the finals.
