PV Naik, New Air Chief Marshal

Air Marshal P V Naik, currently vice-chief of the air staff, has been appointed as the next Air Force chief. He will assume office on May 31 when Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major retires.
Naik is a fighter pilot commissioned in June 1969. Before taking over as the vice-chief, he was heading IAF’s Allahabad-based Central Air Command. During his long service spanning nearly 40 years, he has served in a variety of command staff and instructional posts. He has the distinction of 3,085 hours of flying to his credit. Naik also took part in the 1971 war.
