Renowned Astrology scholar and President Award winner Pundit Kalyan Dutt Sharma who has to his credit building five stone observatories at different places including Jaipur, passed away here last night. He was 90. He is survived by his only daughter. Pundit Sharma who presently was associated with Lal Bahadur Shastri Sanskrit University New Delhi, was not keeping well and was almost bed ridden for past several months. He was cremated at the Shipra Path cremation ground in Mansarovar today. A former teacher in Maharaja Sanskrit College here, Mr Sharma worked for several years as Incharge of the Jantar Mantar Stone Observatory constructed by founder of Jaipur Maharaja Sawai Jaisingh in the City Palace area here.
Pundit Sharma's disciples Dr Vinod Shastri, Head of Astrology Research Centre, Rajasthan University and noted Astrologer Pt Kailash Chandra Chaturvedi recalled that Pundit Sharma had constructed 5 stone observatories in LBS Sanskrit University New Delhi, Dr Sampurnanand Sanskrit University Varanasi, Shanti Kunj, Hardwar and along bank of the Yamuna in Mathura. In this way, he had repeated the feat achieved by Maharaja Jaisingh who invented and constructed observatories at five places in the country in medieval era.
