Holy city Ajmer is on High security for 798th Urs. About 5,000 uniformed and 2,000 plainclothes cops have been deputed for the security of the dargah of Khwaja Garib Nawaj Chisti during the 798th Urs. For the first time, two bag-screening Xray machines have been installed on Langergate and Solakhamba Gates to check material going inside as offerings. Eight metal detectors and 12 CCTV cameras will scan people around the dargah 24 hours. The district administration and the police are on their toes to provide total security during Urs which is expected to start from 13 June. About five to six lakh devotees are expected to participate. The rituals will begin from Wednesday with the putting up flags on Buland Darwaja, the main gate.
The superintendent of police H P Sharma inspected the security arrangements and saw the functioning of screening machines. He said providing security to every devotee is the duty of the police. “We wanted that devotees coming to participate in the Urs feel secure and are able to perform every ritual,” said Mahboob Hassun Chisti, secretary of Anjuman committee. Till last year, CCTV cameras and metal detector machines were used for the security of the dargah but this is the first time screening machines are installed on two gates. “With these machines we can also check the things taken by the devotees for offering in the dargah,” said Abdul Aalim, assistant nazim of dargah committee. Bags not allowed to be taken inside the dargah and for that the committee has set up a cloak room in the committee office.
