Rajasthan Govt waives off Rs 32 lakh interest due on farmers

The Rajasthan government has waived off around Rs 32 lakh due to be paid by farmers of command/colonisation areas on account of unpaid interest on payment of their land cost/loans. A proposal from the Revenue Department for writing-off the outstanding dues, was approved by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, an official spokesman said here today. Earlier, the Chief Minister had exempted payment of interest on unpaid land costs due to be paid by farmers of command areas of all projects, if the allottee made one-time payment of the outstanding by December 2009 and later, extended the deadline up to December 31,2010. Now, the relief has been provided to those farmers who had already paid their installments but some interest arrears stood unpaid in their accounts.
