43rd edition of International Film Festival of India begins in Goa. Information and Broadcasting Minister, Manish Tewari, Goa Governor, B V Wanchoo, chief Minister Manohar Parikkar, I & B Secretary, Uday Kumar Varma and actor Akshay Kumar jointly lighted the lamp and inaugurated the ten day long festival. The festival is celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema with a special centenary package this year which will feature 27 films, 36 documentaries covering all the eras of cinema from silent to black and white, to coloured. The inaugural ceremony showcased all the exciting cinematic moments, depicted wonderfully through dance and music.
The celebrated Polish film-maker Krzysztof Zanussi was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award and a cash prize of ten lakh rupees. While the IFFI opened with the 3D movie, Life of Pi, directed by Oscar winner Ang Lee , the closing film is Mira Nair's movie "the Reluctant Fundamentalist", which is based on Pakistani writer Mohsin Hamid's book. For the Indian Panorama, 18 films each from the feature and non-feature categories have been selected.
