Gurjar Agitation: Gurjar-Meena Clash was the shameful incident for a peaceful state like rajasthan but finally it end with 5% reservation in EBC and 14% reservation for Economically Poor in Rajput, Bhramins, Baniya and other General Category community.
Assembly Election 2009: Smooth and peaceful conduct of elections, It was a year of achievements for the Ashok Gehlot Government in its second term. The ruling Congress began its triumphant spree by winning the vote of confidence in the new assembly on January 3.
Lok Sabha Election 2009: Congress consolidated its position by attaining majority with merger of the six-member BSP legislature party in April, defeating its traditional rival BJP in the May 7 Lok Sabha polls by winning 20 of the 25 seats.
Gurjar Mahapadav: This time, the Col Kirodi Singh Bainsla-led Gujjar Reservation Action Committee organised a sit-in(Mahapadav)in Painchla-Hindon in Karauli district from July 26. But the Chief Minister's initiatives and deputing of senior ministers to open dialogue with Gujjar leaders paved the way for peaceful end to the agitation which 70 lives during the earlier phases in 2007 and 2008. The Gujjar issue rocked the state assembly in July as agitated BJP members tried to stall proceedings forcing passage of budget amid din and suspension of three BJP members. However, the reservation act is yet to clear the judicial scanner.
Fall of Vasundhara Raje: Rough weather prevailed in BJP state unit in the wake of ugly intra-party squabbles. After being ousted from power in assembly elections in December last year, this year too, the BJP suffered humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections with its tally reducing to four seats from 21. Party state president Om Prakash Mathur quit his post in the aftermath of the poll debacle and demanded others follow his example. The elevation of 'youngster' Arun Chaturvedi as made state president in July to replace Mr Mathur was opposed by former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and her loyalists unhappy precipitating in a face-off between the two camps. Ms Raje's refusal to step down as leader of opposition, triggered a protracted tiff until she sent in her papers in October-end.
RCA and IPL Drama: Ms Raje's confidant and IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi remained under fire as certain FIRs and/or cases involving him were filed. The high-profile IPL Boss tasted successive defeats on the post of President of Rajasthan Cricket Association(RCA). While in the February 22 election, he was defeated by IAS Sanjay Dixit, again in elections held afresh this month, on court's directives, Modi was defeated by Union Minister and Congress state president CP Joshi.
Barmer- Diamond of 2009: The year also witnessed transformation of wastelands in Barmer into rich fortune making crude oil-fields when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh dedicated the Cains India-ONGC's Mangla oil-field to the nation on August 29.
Rajasthan as Education hub: Moves of speedily setting up of IIT in Jodhpur, IIM in Udaipur, Central University in Bikaner, transformation of the capital Jaipur into modern world class city with all amenities gave hopes for bright future.
Draught: Calamities of drought and swine flu and tragic incidents of IOC depot fire and Chambal bridge tragedy in Kota saddened the spirits. As many as 32,833 villages spread over 26 districts have been declared drought hit by the state government in August. The state government has demanded assistance of Rs 12,690 crore from the Centre for drought relief measures.
Swine Flu: Around 2,900 confirmed cases of the pandemic have been identified in the state and more than 122 have succumbed to the Swine flu infection. The situation at one stage was so serious that the state government was forced to promulgate the Epidemic Act and order closure of classes for several days in a large number of schools in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Bikaner and Sikar.
IOC Depo Fire: The pink city also bore the brunt of a major fire at the IOC terminal at Sitapura near Sanganer here on October 29. The blaze from a dozen oil containers raged for 11 days, took toll of 11 persons, destroyed the entire depot premises, rendered huge damage in more than 300 industrial units in adjoining Sitapura Industrial area.
Chamble Bridge Collapse: In another mishap, a bridge over Chambal river in Kota collapsed on December 24 killing 33.
Communal Clash: Minor communal tension flared up briefly in Rajnagar and Bhilwara on Muharrum.

From last few years Jaipur has become a developed centre for education. There are few good Engineering Colleges in jaipur, Rajasthan. There are also some old and good Medical Colleges in Jaipur city.
