Shilpgram festival Udaipur 2010 to begin from 21 December

The much awaited cultural extravaganza of Shilpgram is all set to begin from December 21st. The Ten day festival cum fair will display the cultural opulence of not only Udaipur but also that of west India as Udaipur is the cultural capital of 7 west Indian states including Maharashtra, Gujrat, Goa, Daman, Dieu, Daadra Nagar Haveli, and of course Rajasthan. This festival is being held here for many years now and Udaipurites and many foreigner tourists have become habitual to this celebration. No need to mention that this is the peak season of tourism here in Udaipur. So tourists plan in a way that they can enjoy shilpgram festival which gives them the real taste of India. “Inauguration of the fest will see a fusion of Kathak and Lawni from Maharashtra on 21st. The set tune will then be refined by a folk dance from the performers of Jammu and Kashmir along with a singing presentation the next day. Then over 100 artistes of Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur will represent the state as they will perform “Gatha Rajasthan Ri” on 23rd.
The folk ambience will then meet the Soofi music as the Bhandhu GROUP from Raipur ,Chaattisgarh will perform on 24th,” informed Vilas Janve, the Program officer. “25th will be a Christmas celebration day and Bishop of Udaipur will readout his message. The folk performances will resume from 26th as representative performances from MP, Gujrat, and Goa will keep the audiences stick to their seats. A major event called Jankar will conclude the 10 days long celebration,” concluded Janve. The literal meaning of Shilpgram is craftsmen's village and this place lives the value of name very well. The property is spread in a sprawling area of approximately 70 acres at the foothills of Aravallis comprises of 26 huts where the daily household items ranging from the terracotta and the wooden materials can be seen everywhere. Each part and each thing seems to have wrapped into ink of culture.
