A probe into the burning of a police officer by mob in Surwal village on outskirts of Sawai Madhopur last evening, will be held by the Bharatpur Divisional Commissioner. The Station House Officer(SHO) of Mantown police station Phool Mohamad was burnt alive in his jeep by a violent mob of villagers which was angry after the self immolation by a youth in protest against police inaction in an old murder case. The Government has granted an exgratia of Rs 25 lakh to next of kin of the deceased officer. Besides this, a flat would also be given to the family and arrangements for education of his children would be made by the government. Circle Officer Mahendra Singh, meanwhile, has been placed under suspension.

A separate case was lodged against Rakesh Meena, a youth leader who committed suicide in Surwal village of Sawai Madhopur, on Thursday. The state government also suspended circle officer of Sawai Madhopur city Mahendra Singh for negligence in performing his duty. Singh had allegedly run away from the spot when irate villagers had attacked Mohammed.
