The demand of opening new universities in Shekhawati, Alwar and Bharatpur figured in the Rajasthan Assembly today while the Opposition, unhappy over the state government's silence over the issue mobbed the well of the House and later staged a walk-out. The issue was raised by Pema Ram(CPI-M) during the Zero Hour through a rejected adjournment motion to protest the state government's alleged move of stalling the process of the opening of the Shekhawati University in Sikar. Later, several other members, including BJP Whip Rajendra Singh Rathore, Om Birla, Amararam and Shrvan Kumar also joined in to raise voice for opening of the two other universities.
However, Higher Education Minister Jitendra Singh opted to keep silent and this ired the members who protested the former's attitude and gathered in the well and started raising slogans. Speaker Deependra Singh Shekhawat tried to restore order and urged BJP Deputy Leader Ghanshyam Tiwari to pacify the Opposition members. Mr Tiwari also stood up to speak but the Speaker said he would hear him only when the members leave the well and take their seats. Later, the protesting MLAs returned to the seats and Mr Tiwari spoke in support of the demand.
