AIIMS Jhajjar, Haryana is Milestone for Development - Ramdoss

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramdoss termed the setting up of a campus of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jhajjar a "milestone" in the development of Haryana. Addressing a gathering during "Bhoomi pujan" function and land transfer for the proposed AIIMS at Bhadsa village in Jhajjar, Ramdoss said the medical centre would not only prove to be a milestone in the development of Haryana, but would also create a special identity as a major Medical Campus of the country.

"Jhajjar AIIMS will be set up with an investment of Rs 1000 crore and will also cater to the health needs of the people residing in South Delhi, West Delhi, North-West Delhi and North Delhi, besides the people of Rajasthan, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh," Ramdoss said. he added that nearly a dozen health institutions like National Institute of Mental Health Services would also be established at Bhadsa.

he Minister also appreciated the efforts of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his MP son Deepender Hooda for getting the jumbo AIIMS project approved by the Centre. he Chief Minister, who was presiding over the function, requested Ramdoss for giving preference to Bhadsa residents while filling the non-technical posts for Jhajjar AIIMS so that they could get employment. The state government had also decided to give Rs 48 crore as compensation to the panchayat of Bhadsa village in lieu of the land that was provided for the establishment of AIIMS, the Chief Minister said.

LK Advani speak against Mangalore Pub Attack

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and PM Candidate LK Advani on Saturday condemned the attack on young women in a Mangalore pub by members of Hindu group as a violation of Indian culture. Advani said: "I strongly condemn the attack on girls in Mangalore. There can be no compromise on this. It is wrong and against Indian culture and ethos."

Advani said that people could have different perspectives on whether they approved of young men and women frequenting pubs but attacking them was wrong. "Girls and boys will have their own ways, and you may not approve, but it is wrong to attack them for it," he said.
He was referring to the Jan 24 attack by members of the Sri Ram Sene on young women in a Mangalore pub. The Sene members had accused the women who go to pubs of violating Indian tradition.

Ramdevera is Situated about 12 Kms to the north of Pokhran, the village of Ramdevra known after Baba Ramdev, a Tanwar Rajput and a saint who took Samadhi (conscious exit from the mortal body) in 1458 A. D. He had miraculous powers and his fame reached far and wide. Legend goes that five Pirs(saints) from Mecca came here to test his power and after being convinced, paid their homage to him. Near the village, there is a tank known as Ramsar tank which is believed to have been constructed by Baba Ramdev himself. A large step well, the Parcha Baori is also situated nearby. Baba Ram Dev believed in the equality of all human beings, both high and low, rich and poor. He helped the down-trodden by granting them their wishes.Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner constructed a temple around the Samadhi in 1931 A.D. Rice, coconuts, churma and wooden horses (toys) are offered to Ramdevji by the devotees.
A large fair is held here from Bhadon Sudi 2 to Bhadon Sudi 11 (Aug - Sept) which is attended by lakh of devotees who come in large groups from far and wide. Irrespective of their caste, creed or religious affiliations, these devotees throng the shrine dedicated to the saint. These groups organise night long singing of bhajans and kirtans to pay homage to Baba.

Ramdevra village lies about 12 kms. from Pokhran in Jaisalmer district. Pokhran is connected to Jodhpur by a metalled road as well as by Rail. Ramdevra can be reached from Jodhpur and Pokhran by bus.

Khatu Shyamji Fair, Sikar, Rajasthan

Khatu Shyamji is famous for its Shyamji temple. There is a steady stream of devotees the year round, but lakh of them gather at the annual fair from Phalgun Sudi Dashmi to Dwadashi. Apart from being a place of pilgrimage, a large number of people come for the Jadula ceremony (the first time all hair is shaved off the head) of their children.

Ajmer is second home for A R Rahman

This is a secret Oscar winner A R Rahman did not reveal until a few days after his historic feat. The town of Ajmer, famous worldwide for the dargah of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, has become the second home of Rahman and family after Chennai. A strict follower of Khwaja Garib Nawaz, Rahman had been visiting the holy city at least twice a year for the past more than two decades. Rahman bought the bungalow in Ajmer's satellite area, Kundan Nagar, last November in his mother's name. Even some local residents spoke to Rahman, his mother and sister when they stayed there in November last year for a few days for registering the house, but they didn't recognise him.
It's only after Rahman's Oscar triumph that the people of the area came to know about the owner of the bungalow. Rahman, even otherwise, prefers to keep his identity a secret and prefers to sit with devotees on his visit to the dargah, says Pyare Mohan Tripathi, the district public relations officer.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announce today that development plans of his government will be focussed on poor, labourers and farmers living in villages. He was speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of ESI Medical College and Hospital at Desula village in Alwar district. The 300-bed hospital will be built at a cost of Rs1,000 crore as a part of Centre's project to establish 13 new ESI medical colleges and hospitals across the country.
Alwar is one of the most industrialized regions in the state and there is a huge population of laboures and factory workers here. The ESI hospital is expected to benefit more than 2 lakh workers. The chief minister also assured full support for establishment of a private university in the region.

Indian GDP growth at 6-yr low of 5.3%

The Indian economy is now officially estimated to have grown at 5.3% in the October-December 2008 quarter over the corresponding months of 2007, making it the lowest year-on-year growth for any quarter since January-March 2003. The lower than expected growth in the third quarter (Q3) of 2008-09 makes it extremely unlikely that the 7.1% growth projected for the full financial year earlier this month will be met. It is likely to add to pressure on RBI to take measures to boost growth.
The sharp dip in growth in Q3, from 7.6% for Q2, was due to a 2.2% decline in agriculture and a 0.2% decline in manufacturing. The dip in agriculture would be particularly worrying for several sectors which were banking on strong rural demand. For April-December 2008, the growth rate is now 6.9%. The economy will have to grow 7.7% in Q4 if 7.1% growth for the full year is to materialise. Given the global recession, that seems extremely remote.

Pandit Hiralal Shastri - First Chief Minister of Rajasthan

Pandit Hiralal Shastri was born on November 24, 1899 at Jobner in Jaipur District. Born in a peasant family, he had his early education in Jobner. Hiralal secured the degree of Sahitya Shastri in 1920. He took B.A. degree in 1921 from Maharaja's College, Jaipur, securing the first rank. From early childhood Hiralal had a burning desire to go to some village and devote his life to the service of the downtrodden. Though he joined Jaipur State Service in 1921 and had a meteoric rise to become Secretary in the Home and Foreign Departments, he resigned the same in 1927. While in administrative service he displayed qualities of hard work, efficiency and fearlessness.
In 1929, in fulfillment of his childhood resolve, Hiralal Shastri selected a remote and backward village Banasthali, 45 miles from Jaipur and founded 'Jeevan Kutir' there. Here he trained a band of dedicated social workers and endeavoured to implement a programme of rural reconstruction. These workers later became the heralds of political awakening in many of the Rajputana States. He himself was drawn to political arena when he was drafted to reorganize Jaipur Rajya Praja Mandal in 1937 of which he was twice elected General Secretary and twice President. In 1939 he led the Praja Mandal's Satyagraha for achievement of civil liberties and suffered a six-months imprisonment.
In 1947 he was appointed General Secretary of All India States Peoples Conference. The same year he was elected to the Constituent Assembly.
On the installation of representative Government in Jaipur State in 1948 Hiralal Shastri took over as the Chief Minister and when Rajasthan State was formed on March 30,1949 he became its first Chief Minister. On him fell the herculean task of integrating the diverse princely units into effective modern administration. He accomplished this complex task ably in a short period. He resigned on January 5, 1951 and later became member of the Second Lok Sabha.
Hiralal Shastri passed away on December 28, 1974. Forthright and fearless in his views, an Indian to the core of his heart, a selfless social worker, Pandit Hiralal Shastri was a farsighted and popular leader. To him goes largely the credit of laying the foundation of a strong, unified and progressive Rajasthan.

Now DA will be 22% for Central Government Employee

Government on Thursday raised the dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners to 22% from 16%. DA, given as a percentage of pay, is meant to neutralise the impact of price rises. As per the recommendation of the 6th Pay Commission, the DA should be sanctioned twice a year on January 1 and July 1, payable with the March and September salaries.
“The hike will be effective from January 1 and will be payable from March 1, 2009,“ home minister P Chidambaram told reporters after a Cabinet committee meeting chaired by external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee. with elections to be announced soon, sanctioning the DA sometime in March for it to be credited with that month’s salary could have gone against the election code. The DA largesse not only avoids that, but also brightens the ruling formation’s poll prospects. The decision will benefit half a crore employees and 38 lakh pensioners, Mr Chidambaram said. It will put Rs 6,020 crore in the hands of government staff and pensioners over the next 14 months, spurring consumer spend in a slowing economy.

People march to assembly at Jaipur led by civil rights activists

Hundreds of people led by civil rights activists marched to the Rajasthan Assembly on the final day of its brief session here on Thursday demanding enhancement of pension, supply of cheap ration and widening of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to cover the urban areas. Addressing the demonstrators outside the Assembly, where they were stopped, spoke about impoverishment and vulnerability of large sections of population in the State and called for expansion of the public distribution system beyond the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.

The marchers were disappointed to learn that the Assembly had been adjourned sine die after the brief vote-on-account proceedings and the Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, and all MLAs had already left.

Punjab DGP will be new NSG chief

Director General of Police N P S Aulakh has been appointed as the new chief of the elite National Security Guards (NSG) and will assume charge on March 1. Aulakh, a 1972-batch IPS officer, will replace J K Dutta who is retiring on Saturday, official sources said in Chandigarh on Friday.

He was appointed the Punjab DGP in March 2007 after the formation of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-BJP combine government in the state. Aulakh is to retire in August 2010. Aulakh has served as Deputy Inspector General (BSF) in Kashmir and also as additional Director General (West) in the Border Security Force. The Punjab government had forwarded his name for the central deputation recently. It received a communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday, the sources said.

State-run BSNL on Friday set the ball rolling for 3G Mobile services as the Telecom major launched the next generation mobile services in 11 cities and announced a rate of Re 1 per minute for video call in the Rs 2,500-plan. BSNL has launched 3G Mobile Services today on commercial basis simultaneously from 11 cities -- Agra, Ambala, Jalandhar, Jaipur, Dehradoon, Shimla, Lucknow, Ranchi, Durgapur, Haldia, Patna & a soft launch in Jammu. BSNL, which claims a subscriber base of over 74 million, also announced tariff plans for 3G mobile services under pre-paid and post-paid voice, video and data plans.

The voice call will be available for as low as 10 paise per minute under full value Rs-1,000 plan. In other words, the subscriber would have to shell out fixed amount of Rs 1,000 in a month and the local calls would cost just 10 paise a minute. Similarly, video calls would cost Re 1 a minute under the unlimited Rs-2,500 plan and Rs 2 for STD video calls. The 3G services of BSNL were launched in Tamil Nadu last week.

Google says Gmail crash a self-mistake

Even as the world moaned Gmail’s failure on Tuesday,Internet giant Google admitted it had crashed its own data centres causing of the email service for close to four hours in India alone. But industry experts are not buying this excuse. Google said that during a routine maintenance of one of its European data centres, they had directed the traffic to other servers. However, they were simultaneously trying a new code that “tries to keep data geographically close to its owner causing another data centre in Europe to become overloaded. This caused cascading problems from one data centre to another”, said Gmail site reliability manager Acacio Cruz on early Wednesday morning. In short,Google crashed its own servers, unintentionally of course. However, analysts say Google may be covering up its failure by terming it a “self-mistake”.

Tata Nano to roll out on March 23

The world’s cheapest car, the widely-awaited Nano, will be launched on March 23, Tata Motors said on Thursday. The company will display the Nanot dealerships from the first week of April and will accept bookings from the second week of April. Nano’s entry might lead to growth in the domestic market. The car may also find a niche abroad, as cash-strapped consumers are likely to look for bargains. The company displayed the Nano at the Geneva Motor Show last year and plans to present the European version at the show in March 2009. It plans to sell Nano in Europe for E5,000. The company unveiled the Nano in January 2008 with a price tag of around Rs 1 lakh, nearly half the price of the next cheapest car in India, and aimed at launching it in the last quarter of 2008. The launch was delayed, as Tata Motors had to relocate its factory from West Bengal to Sanand in Gujarat because of protests over acquisition of agricultural land. It invested Rs 1,500 crore for setting up the West Bengal unit and is spending Rs 2,000 crore in the Sanand plant. Tata Motors will roll out 60,000-80,000 units of the Nano from another plant in Pantnagar in Uttarkhand till the Sanand unit is geared up to produce 2.5 lakh units a year. There is speculation as to whether Tata Motors would launch Nano in a number of cities. “The company is making arrangements for the widest possible network to book the car, so that prospective customers can conveniently avail of booking facilities at their locations. The booking process and other details will be announced on March 23,” the company said in a statement. Tata Motors has begun aggressively gearing up its distribution network to sell the car, which will primarily focus on semi-urban and rural markets. “We have been asked to open as many showrooms as possible at the district levels as the company has planned a slew of new launches this year,” said a Mumbai-based Tata Motors dealer, requesting anonymity. The base version of the Nano, which will be without an AC, will be priced at around Rs 1 lakh while the AC model will carry a higher price tag, said sources close to the project. It is learnt that Tata Motors Finance is working on various packages through SBI and HDFC Bank to offer competitive interest rates.

New Airport for Ajmer and Bikaner in Rajasthan will be soon

Rajasthan is all set to get two more airports -- one at Bikaner and another near Ajmer -- which will give a major boost to tourism in the state. Announcing the two airports, union civil aviation The Airports Authority of India(AAI) and the Rajasthan government have already signed anMoU for the airport at Kishangarh, 25 kilometers from Ajmer, the minister said. The new terminal in Sanganer, built at a cost of Rs 100 crore, will replace the existing domestic terminal from next month. Stressing on the need for better intra-state air connectivity, the minister suggested that chief minister Ashok Gehlot may send a proposal to the union ministry for the services of two small national carriers. minister Praful Patel, who inaugurated the new international terminal at Sanganer airport here on Wednesday, said that the foundation stone for the Bikaner airport would be laid on March 2.

The Christianganj police arrested the director of institution, Shobha Suman Mishra, for cheating the students.A court on Tuesday sent director, to 15-day judicial custody in a case where student couldn't appear for Class X examinations as the school was not affiliated to CBSE.
Meanwhile, the parents of students moved the high court seeking relief. On the other hand, various students’ organizations urged chief minister Ashok Gehlot to take stringent action against schools that are playing with the future of students. On Monday, angry students of Central Academy, Ajmer and their relatives set a school bus on fire after learning that they could not appear for Class X board examinations.
The school disclosed at the last moment that they are not affiliated to CBSE. Parents of these students called a meeting on Tuesday and decided to move high court seeking permission to appear in the examination.

15 IAS and 20 IPS transferd in Rajasthan by State Government

State government on Monday night transferred 15 IAS and 20 IPS officers, including the executive officer of the Amber Development and Management Authority (ADMA) S Ahmed.
Ahmed, who is the chairman and managing director of Rajasthan Finance Corporation and also functioning as CEO of ADMA, has been transferred as principal secretary, agriculture and farming. Umrav Salodiya, principal secretary, art, literature and culture will be the new CEO of ADMA.
Ahmad’s transfer comes close to the recent controversy surrounding the shooting of Salman Khan-starrer ‘Veer’ at Amber fort. In fact, this is the second transfer of Ahmed in a short span, who on January 15 was shifted from the post of principal secretary, art, literature and culture to that of CMD of Rajasthan Finance Corporation. However, he was allowed to keep the post of CEO, ADMA, which he was holding for some time. Atul Kumar Garg, who has been handling the art, literature and culture in the interim period, has now been appointed as CMD.of Rajasthan Finance Corporation.
Ahmed will replace Ashish Bahuguna, who will take charge as principal secretary, transport, in addition to being chairman of Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation.

BJP leader shot dead in Kota

In yet another political violence, a local BJP leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Sangod in Kota district on monday.
The incident triggered violent protests by his supporters who manhandled the additional district magistrate (ADM) and forcibly closed markets in three nearby towns – Sangod, Kaithoon and Bapawar. The angry supporters pelted stones at the mortuary of a government hospital in Sangod where post-mortem of the victim was to be conducted and clashed with police who used batons and tear gas to disperse them. The mob damaged many vehicles of senior police and administration officials and pelted stones at them. The ADM and a senior police officer were injured in the clash.
According to police, Laxminaryan Nagar, general secretary, Sangod Dehat BJP mandal, was shot dead by some unidentified persons on Monday. His body was recovered from his farm in Melkhedi village where he had gone for supervision of farming work. He was shot by a country-made gun. “Some villagers had gone to the farm on Monday evening where they found the body. The villagers informed the police. There was bullet mark on his forehead and pellets were lodged in his back,” said a senior police officer.

After Chandigarh, Delhi also gets a Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). The institute set up at Ram Mahonar Lohia Hospital will be inaugurated by Union health minister Dr Anbumani on Wednesday.

Said M S Chaturvedi, superintendent of RML: ‘‘PGIMER, Delhi was conceptualized in 2002 to address the shortage of postgraduate students in Delhi. RML has infrastructure, required clinical material as well as land. So government decided to set up the institute here. Fifty per cent of the seats will be reserved for Delhi students. The institute will be affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.’’
To be increased to 69 seats, the institute offers 35 seats in the 2008-09 academic session. Rest of the 34 seats will be filled up by the next academic session.

Government May Cut Deiesel Price Again by 2 Rs.

Before Election Govt. may provide a pre-poll bonanza by cutting fuel price. the government may cut diesel price by Rs 2 a litre in a "day-or-two" but there would be no reduction in petrol prices.Government wants to announce the price reduction, on top of the Rs 4 a litre cut in two installments since December, before General Elections are announced, an official said.
"The Cabinet may meet in a day-or-two to decide on the reduction," he said. "Most likely, the Cabinet may meet tomorrow." A reduction in diesel price would pull down inflation and make goods transportation, especially fruits and vegetables, cheaper.
However, there would no reduction in petrol rates, which in two installments had already been slashed by Rs 10 a litre. State-owned fuel retailers Indian Oil Corp, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum are selling petrol at almost break-even point while they make Rs 3.26 a litre profit on diesel sales.

BSNL launches 3G services, Now Pvt Companies eagerly waiting auction

BSNL, India's largest telecom sector company lauch its 3G Services in Chennai and on High now days as second company in india to provide 3G Services after MTNL. While Pivate operators are still waiting to get spectrum through auction process.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will pay a glowing tribute to umpire SteveBucknor, who has decided to retire from officiating in international cricket next month. "Steve's contribution to our great sport over two decades at the top level of umpiring has been immense. We will pay Steve the tribute for his outstanding service to the game merits once his final appointments have been completed," ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said.

Bihar gets 16,000 cr from center for development

The Planning Commission has approved Rs 16,000 crore as plan grant for Bihar, which includes central assistance to the tune of Rs 110 crore for projects of special importance to the state, for 2009-10. The grant was approved at a meeting between Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at New Delhi on Monday.

The amount sanctioned for the state is about 18 percent more as compared to 2008-09, when it was Rs 13,500 crore. Besides, market borrowings for the state comprise 22.8 percent of the grant at Rs 3,650 crore with the Panel assuring to aid in raising additional borrowing during the year, if needed.

However, the State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the state needed more grants to overcome developmental bottleneck. "We need more. We are a development deficit state. We need higher plan size but we could get Rs 16,000 crore", Kumar said on the occasion. He said the state has plans for private investment at different stages - sugar cane mills and thermal power.

Bihar expects to spend 24 percent of the allocated amount on basic infrastructure including roads and bridges, he said adding that the development taking place in the state is visible to the people.

Approach HC for RAS Promotion sceme : Ashok Gehlot

CM Ashok Gehlot on Sunday directed the senior officials to explore the option of moving to the Supreme Court to remove the legal hurdles. Gehlot was speaking at the special convention of the Rajasthan Prashasanik Seva Parishad (RPSP) at the OTS on Sunday. "While IAS officers get time-bound promotions or for even before time, it is very unfortunate that the officials of the state's highest civil service were denied their due in last 14 years. We will do everything possible to find a solution to the issue including approaching the Supreme Court," he assured. The chief minister also expressed serious concern over the growing trend of people taking law into their hands on trivial issues and the erosion of faith in the police and civil administration.
RPSP president, Yagyamitra Singh Dev, drew the attention of Gehlot towards various problems faced by the state administrative cadre. Lauding some constructive measures taken during his previous tenure, he said 58 vacancies for the RAS to IAS has been lying vacant for the last 14 years. He said this has created a situation of dearth of officers for appointment as collectors at the district level. He also demanded that like some other sates a few vacancies for collectors be appointed from the RAS cadre. He also demanded the strict compliance of assured career promotion (ACP) a action against the officers violation of the Judicial Protection Act.

Telecom adds 15 million telecom users in Jan

This is a global record for any telecom market. The number of phone connections in the country — mobile and landline — has crossed 400 million as of January-end, telecom regulator Trai said on Friday. Mobile phone users now account for close to 91% of the country’s telephone base with 362.3 million connections, the regulator said. The robust growth has also helped push the country’s teledensity to 34.5%. This means, there are 35 phone connections for every 100 people in India.

Telecom companies added a record 15 million customers in January, indicating that the world’s fastest growing telecom market remains untouched by the economic slowdown.

January growth was led by Reliance Communications that added close to 5 million new subscribers, GSM and CDMA combined, taking its subscriber base to 66.2 million. RCom had launched GSM services in January with an aggressive pricing strategy that enabled the company to garner a third of the total customers added by the industry in the month.

Uncertainty over BJP-BJD alliance in Orissa

Uncertainty continued over the formation of pre-poll alliance between ruling BJD and BJP in Orissa assembly and Lok Sabha polls as the second round of talks between the leaders of both parties ended inconclusively. "We have not reached any final decision. The talks will continue," state Finance Minister P C Ghadei, who led BJD team during the talks held yesterday, told reporters. While describing the meeting as "positive and cordial", he admitted that no firm decision could be taken.
Stating that they discussed on different issues including seat swapping in the wake of delimitation of constituencies and seat sharing ratio, Ghadei said both the parties exchanged their views on the basis of candidate selection and the ground realities at the grassroots. Neither BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik nor Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, who is BJD's strategist, attended the meeting to decide the future of the alliance. The discussions was attended by prominent BJP leaders while BJD was represented by second rung leaders.

Relations between the two parties were reportedly fraught over the ongoing violence in Kandhamal district. The parties fought separately in Cuttack Municipal Corporation elections where BJP fared poorly.

After moon mission, ISRO looking for twin launch

After the successful Chandrayaan-I moon mission, Indian Space Research Organisation is now getting ready for a twin launch - a "breakthrough" Radar Imaging Satellite (RISAT) and ANUSAT. Bangalore-headquartered ISRO is targeting a March last week date for launching them on board the indigenously built Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle from the Sriharikota spaceport.
Indian space scientists see the 1,780-kg Risat as a major milestone for the country as far as remote sensing satellites are concerned. RISAT mission would have a C-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload, operating in a multi-polarisation and multi-resolution mode.
SAR, being an active sensor, operating in the microwave range of electromagnetic spectrum, provides the target parameters such as dielectric constant, roughness, and geometry, and has the unique capability for day-night imaging, and imaging in all weather conditions including fog and haze, and also provide information on soil moisture.

"So far, all satellites launched by ISRO are optical remote sensing satellites. But RISAT will have all other capabilities," ISRO spokesperson S Satish told reporters.

While two factory-fresh Nanos — one white, one silver — were driven to the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Friday for blessings, on Sunday afternoon, yet another Nano made its way through the narrow, crowded lanes outside Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti’s dargah in Ajmer, Rajasthan. Tata officials with the car offered a chadar at the shrine. “Ratan Tata himself instructed that the blessings of different leading shrines of our pluralistic country should be sought before the Nano hits the road,” said one of the five officials who travelled in the car to Amritsar, refusing to be named.

The Nano in Ajmer was built at Pimpri in Maharashtra, airlifted from Mumbai to Jaipur and driven down, said a Tata Motors dealer. The Nano drew huge crowds everywhere. “Wherever we stopped for lunch or tea, hundreds would gather,” the Tata official said. “Many wanted to test-drive the vehicle. BIG TV is reportedly looking for an excuse to exit the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to lack of funds. IPL is Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Twenty20 tournament in India. However, in his response IPL Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi has down played media reports of sponsors and partners thinking of pulling out of the IPL.
