Cairn India claim Rajasthan oil fields can produce highest oil in India

Cairn India can produce up to 2,40,000 barrels per day from its prolific Rajasthan fields, equivalent to output from the nation's largest oilfield of Mumbai High, the company has informed the government. Cairn India CEO Rahul Dhir last week wrote to the Petroleum Ministry and the sector regulator DGH informing that it can produce 37 per cent more oil from the Thar dessert fields than previously thought. "Based on our review, we estimate that the potential resource in the (Rajasthan) block is now estimated to be 6.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent in place. This resource base provides a basis for a vision to produce 2,40,000 barrels of oil per day, subject of course to necessary approvals and additional investments," he wrote in identical letters to Petroleum Minister Murli Deora, Oil Secretary S Sundareshan and DGH Director General S K Srivastava.
Cairn India, a unit of UK explorer Cairn Energy Plc, in December 2004, discovered the Mangala field in the Rajasthan block - the largest onland oil discovery in the world that year. Mangala, the largest onland oil field in India, was estimated to produce a peak output of 125,000 bpd which has now been revised to 150,000 bpd following more than anticipate oil from some 50 development wells drilled on the field so far.

Amitabh Bachchan won't be CWG Brand Ambassador: Kalmadi

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Chairman Suresh Kalmadi on Tuesday ruled out making Amitabh Bachchan the brand ambassador for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. "Amitabh Bachchan will not be the brand ambassador for Commonwealth Games," Kalmadi, who is the Congress MP from Pune, said at a function at the house of Delhi Chief Minister Shieli Dikshit. Kalmadi's statement is seen as one more snub by the Congress to the Bollywood star who has been at the receiving end of the party's barbs after he became the brand ambassador of Bharatiya Janata Party-rule Gujarat. The BJP had on Monday written a letter to Kalmadi asking him to appoint Amitabh as Commonwealth Games brand ambassador.
Senior BJP leader VK Malhotra, who is also the IOC Vice President and an executive board member of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, sent the letter backing Amitabh as Commonwealth Games brand ambassador saying the actor is an "icon for youngsters". Congress has been targeting Amitabh since March 24 when he attended the inauguration of the second carriageway of Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai. Some Congress leaders including Maharashtra Chief Minsiter Ashok Chavan expressed their unhappiness over the presence of Amitabh at the function. Congress again took on the Bollywood superstar on Monday asking him to clear his stand on the 2002 Gujarat riots. "It is high time that Mr Amitabh Bachchan comes out and very strongly tells this country as to where does he stand on the question of Mr Narendra Modi and his government's complicity in the Gujarat riots," said Congress MP Manish Tewari.

Five get death penalty in honour killing case at Karnal Haryana

In a landmark judgement in a Haryana honour killing case, a court in Karnal has awarded capital punishment to five persons and life sentence to one for murdering a couple on the diktats of a self-styled community panchayat for marrying against societal norms. Additional District and Sessions Judge Vani Gopal Sharma pronounced the sentence after reserving the judgement in the case on Monday. The prosecution had termed the case as the "rarest of the rare" and pleaded for capital punishment to the six convicts for killing Manoj (23) and Babli (19), who hailed from Karora village in Kaithal district and had got married on 18th May 2007. Last Thursday, the court had convicted them for murdering the couple of the same 'gotra' (sub-caste) in 2007. Another person was held guilty of abduction and the quantum of punishment was reserved. It is the first case in which the boy's family had moved court against the honour killing after the 'khap' panchayat (caste-based council) had ruled against the couple's marriage. Those sentenced are the girl's brother Suresh, uncles Rajender and Baru Ram and her cousins Gurdev and Satish besides leader of the panchayat Ganga Raj. A driver Mandeep Singh was convicted of kidnapping and awarded a seven year prison term.

BSNL-HCL to provide Internet in rural areas of India

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has tied up with HCL to provide computer sets in villages on installment basis. HCL will provide computer sets with initial payment of a over Rs 2000 with the broadband connections. The customers have to pay the rest amount in monthly instalments. "We have made this arrangement most of the rural customers are not prepared to pay a huge amount to purchase computers," BSNL chief general manager, Orissa Telecom Circle, A N Ray said. BSNL wanted to spread Internet connection in rural areas because of less broadband customers there, he said. Out of about 70,000 broadband users in Orissa so far, only 15 percent of them are from the rural areas, he stated. In 2010-11, the public sector telecom company aimed at providing about 50,000 new connections as against the achievement of about 35,000 in 2009-10. He said in remote areas, Broad-band services will be provided through Wi-Max services. Around 107 locations across the state have been identified for Wi-Max services, he added.
Wi-MAX is a telecom technology that provides wireless transmission of data to portable and fully mobile net access. The CGM was here to inaugurate the Customer Service Center (CSC) under project Smile. The single window services will be provided at the CSC, where almost all services of the BSNL are available under one roof

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) gets Navratna Status

State-run Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) has joined the league of navratna PSUs, which enjoy greater financial and functional autonomy. "A committee chaired by the Cabinet Secretary has cleared Navratna status for RINL," Steel Secretary Atul Chaturvedi said on Monday. The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) will notify the new status to the steel maker, which was earlier rated as miniratna. "This (the navratna tag) will add to RINL financial powers," Chaturvedi said. A navratna PSU can take investment decisions for up to Rs 1,000 crore without seeking government approval. RINL is undertaking about Rs 12,000-crore project to almost double its annual production capacity to about 6 million tonnes by March 2011.
As for SAIL, Chaturvedi said the proposal to upgrade steel giant's status to maharatna has been cleared by the DPE but the apex committee is yet to approve the same. To be eligible for the top category, a PSU needs to have a three-year track record of annual net profit of over Rs 5,000 crore, net worth of more than Rs 15,000 crore and turnover of more than Rs 25,000 crore, besides being listed on the stock exchanges. A maharatna tag will give the companies the power to take investment decisions of up to Rs 5,000 crore. Of the 158 profit-making PSUs, 18 enjoy the navratna status while 62 are mini-Navratnas. No PSU has yet been accorded maharatna status, although the Cabinet has approved the scheme in December 2009.

SC restored 4% quota for Muslims in Andhra

The Supreme Court on Thursday restored the Andhra Pradesh law providing 4% exclusive quota in jobs and educational institutions for “backward” groups among Muslims, in a development that can give a fillip to the demand for implementation of Ranganath Mishra Commission's recommendations for 15% quota for minorities. The interim order passed by SC revived the AP law which was struck down as unconstitutional by a 7-judge bench of the high court on the ground that it violated the constitutional provision forbidding faith-based quota. A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and comprising Justices J M Panchal and B S Chauhan has left it for a 5-judge Constitution Bench to decide the legality of the law which has taken the total quantum of all kinds of quotas to 49% in the state. The Constitution Bench is to start the scrutiny in the second week of August. The court, however, stayed implementation of a provision of the law which was seen as aimed at putting the entire Muslim community, except 10 groups, under the “backward” category entitled to reservations in jobs and admissions to schools and colleges.

RAC, BSF Called in Jaipur to maintain discipline

Gujjar leaders call today agitation in whole state with maha padav by gurjar community. In view of the Gujjar agitation and possible disruption of law and order, police department has made elaborate arrangements to maintain peace in the Jaipur. Six companies of Border Security Force (BSF), along with battalions of Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) and other forces, will stand guard in and around Jaipur when the Gujjars proceed towards city in support of their demand for reservation on Friday. Efforts will be made that Gujjars are intercepted on the Jaipur district borders only, not allowing them to enter the city. The police and administration feel that if this is not handled properly, it can lead to severe law and order problem in the city.
With Rajasthan High Court asking the state government to make adequate arrangements in view of the stir and the state having a history of violence during previous Gujjar agitations, the police are under tremendous pressure this time. Section 144 of CrPC has already been imposed in the district allowing not more than five people to gather at a place. The district administration has also made arrangements and will deploy duty magistrates to ensure peace, it is learnt. Congress blames BJP for this while BJP blames congress, so again blame game started in state.

According to Colonel Kirori Singh Bainsla the agitation is getting an unprecedented support of thousands of members of the community. Rajasthan Royals Vs Kings XI Fight to rise from BOTTOM

Kings XI and Rajasthan Royals are at the bottom of the points table with just one win out of the four matches they played in the event so far and both the teams need to get their acts together to be in with the slighest chance of progressing to the semifinals. Notwithstanding, their performance in the tournament so far, on paper Kings XI look a more formidable side as the team has plenty of international stars up its ranks. As if Yuvraj Singh's return to form was not enough of a worry for Rajasthan, Kings XI, who snapped their losing streak with a thrilling Super Over win over Chennai Super Kings last Saturday, got a major boost when Aussie speedster Brett Lee and opener Shaun Marsh joined the side on Monday.
Rajasthan's main weapon would be the spin department as they rely heavily on slow bowling. If not the bat, Pathan has proved his worth with his slow off-spinners that proved more than handy against Kolkata. To help Rajasthan's cause, captain Shane Warne seems to have found his mojo as he extracted drift and turn from the wicket against Kolkata to keep the batsmen on tenterhooks.

Did INDIA Really Need unique identification number

Hi All,
I come to know some fact with one of my reader on www.rajasthantalkies.com, which really give me a reason to think about the Unique Identification Project. These are some of world which he(David Greenwood) share with me
"I am amazed that this ID card scheme is even being contemplated. Considering that approx 42% of all Indians live below the International poverty line of $1.25c per DAY !.
And also approx 49% of the WORLDS underweight children live in India, .Is testament to a fundamentaly flawed Political system.
The man chosen to implement the ID card syastem in India, is on a salary of at least $230,000.00 PA. And is worth personally in excess of One Billion US Dollars. So this man is living quite well in a Country that is experiencing dire problems.
Why would someone on the poverty line living in squaller be interested in having an ID card, they cant afford trousers with pockets in which to put it?
Looks like a big fraud against all Indians if you ask my opinion, and I am not Indian, but English, so I know what a corrupt Government is capable of, just look at the UK, it is rife with scandal and deceipt in Government.
Who will most benefit from the ID card?
Who will pay for it ?? ( International Aid)
What use will it be to the average Indian?
Can you eat it?
How many Indians living in poverty will ever use it?
Dont you honestly accept that India is underdeveloped and suffering much poverty and famine? Surely any Government would strive to improve the lives of its people , prior to enslaving them to a piece of plastic.
1.2 Billion Indians being forced to buy something they probably would rather not wste the money they have not got on buying. I can only summize that if I only had $1.25 c per day in wages , the very last thing I would like to see was an ID card and a crate of Evian water for my politicians to drink.
Wake up and smell the roses. ( no offence intended)

Rajasthan High Court to remove 18 Judges

Rajasthan High Court has recommended the removal of 18 of them at the district level, after they were found corrupt and incompetent by a probe panel. The decision was taken at a full court meeting of the high court held at Jodhpur on Saturday, attended by a majority of all the 27 judges, Hindustan Times has learnt. The action followed a “lengthy discussion” on the report of the probe panel headed by Justice K.S. Rathore of the high court. “The meeting — chaired by chief justice Jagdish Bhalla — passed a resolution accepting the recommendation of a five member probe panel to give compulsory retirement to the district judges against whom allegations have been proved,” said a judge present at the meeting. “All the judges present at the meeting agreed that there should zero tolerance against corruption in the judiciary, but there were differences on the degree of action against erring judges,” said another judge. Apart from 18 district judges, the services of three judicial magistrates are also likely to be terminated. The High Court has decided to recommend the compulsory retirement of all the 21 judges under Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS). The final decision in the matter rests with the governor, who will decide after consulting the state government.

Rajasthan Royals registered first win in IPL 3

Rajasthan Royals registered a resounding victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in the DLF-IPL III here on Saturday. Knocking down the stumps of Manoj Tiwary in his second over and Brad Hodge in the first ball of his fourth over, Yusuf Pathan exulted as if to signal an emphatic victory for a beleaguered side in the eight-team competition. Pathan's off breaks on the dry surface — the ball being tossed to him by skipper Shane Warne to open the attack in defence of 168 — struck the telling blows that allowed no leeway for Kolkata Knight Riders to attempt a win whose run rate that had climbed to nearly 18 in the last three overs. Returning to its home ground at Motera for the second of its four matches scheduled at the Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium, Royals defeated Knight Riders by 34 runs.

Rajasthan Rebari community support Govt move; opposes Gujjar agitation

The Rebari community--a social group categorised as a backward class along with Gujjars and two other castes--, has welcomed the Gehlot Government's move of granting special packages for their social elevation and condemned Col Kirodi Singh Bainsla led Gujjar Reservation Action Committee for resumption of agitation from March 26. Talking to reporters here today, a group of community leaders including sitting MLA Ratna Ram Devasi felt that the state government's stand on the reservation issue was justified and its initiative for granting a special package to the four castes would prove to be a boon to youngsters of the above group. Mr Devasi said provision of scholarships to students of the class, assistance for gearing them up for competitive examinations and setting up of ITIs and other establishments would make the youth more employment efficient.
He said reverting the four communities into the OBCs until the judicial clearance to the Rajasthan Reservation Bill 2009, was also a welcome step by the government as it would enable our youth to avail benefit of reservation under the OBC class in recruitment for 70,000 posts being filled by the state government. Mr Devasi condemned Gujjar leader Col Bainsla's demand of stopping recruitment process till judicial clearance to the new Reservation Act and said this would have harmed the interests of a large number of unemployed youth, who were awaiting eagerly for opening of recruitment process.
Meanwhile, the state government has also reverted for the time being, four castes into OBCs to enable them to avail benefit of existing reservation for recruitment on 70,000 posts in government jobs. The Gujjar Action Committee has given a call for agitation from March 26 in protest against the government's move and stopping recruitment until the judicial clearance to the new Reservation Act. Meanwhile, a delegation of about 75 Rebari community leaders met Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to express gratitude for the package and solidarity with government's initiatives.

Rajasthan royals Smith and Mascarenhas out of IPL

Rajasthan Royals' hope of regaining the IPL trophy received a huge blow as their hard-hitting opener Graeme Smith and all-rounder Dmitri Mascarenhas were ruled out of the ongoing Twenty20 tournament due to injuries. Smith fractured his right middle finger when he took a brilliant catch to dismiss opener Virender Sehwag, while Mascarenhas injured his ankle when he attempted a quick second run but was run out during the match against Delhi Daredevils here yesterday. According to reports, Smith has aggravated his finger injury sustained during South Africa's tour to India early this year. With the injuries to these two key players, the Rajasthan Royals' chances in the ongoing third edition of IPL looked in doldrums as they are without the services of two another crucial players all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who was banned from this year's tournament and Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, who is yet to join the team.
Rajasthan Royals will not be allowed replacements for Graeme Smith and Dmitri Mascarenhas, who have been ruled out for the rest of the Indian Premier League because of injuries. A top IPL official confirmed to DNA that the struggling former champions cannot avail any replacement at this stage of the tournament.
The Royals said they will soon be getting reinforcements as some of their foreign recruits are on their way to India. According to them, Johan Botha (South Africa off-spinner) and Adam Voges (Australian all-rounder) will be joining the squad in the next few days. Besides, there is ‘immediate backup’ in the form of Damien Martyn and Michael Lumb. The team is also hoping that star all-rounder Shane Watson will be back in time to give a boost to their campaign. The Australian is expected to join the squad by April 2. “No decision has been made about seeking replacement. We have enough back-up,” Sean Morris, the chief executive of the team, said. Earlier, an RR spokesman said Smith would return to South Africa after fracturing his finger while taking a catch during Royals’ match against Delhi Daredevils in Ahmedabad on Monday night.

Gadkari's new team has a blend of youth and experience. The new A-team of the BJP would have 11 vice-presidents, 10 general secretaries and 15 secretaries.
List of new 11 vice-presidents:Shanta Kumar, Kalraj Mishra, Vinay Katiyar, Bhagatsingh Koshiyari, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Karuna Shukla, Najma Heptullah, Hema Malini, Bijoya Chakravarti, Purushottam Rupala and Kiran Ghai
List of new 10 General secretary: Ravishankar Prasad, Dharmendra Pradhan, Narendrasingh Tomar, Ramlal, Anant Kumar, Thavarchand Gehlot, Jagat Prakash Nadda, Arjun Munda, Vijay Goel and Vasundhara Raje Scindia.

The list does a few surprises though. The inclusion of former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, despite being not in the good books of former BJP president Rajnath Singh, can be seen as the heralding of a new era in the party; that of Nitin Gadkari and his choices.. Varun Gandhi’s elevation as secretary would also raise some eyebrows as there have been reports that many senior party functionaries were opposed to the idea of giving him any party post. However, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) reportedly backed Varun Gandhi as it sees him as a counter to Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.

Foreign universities can now open campus in India

Indian Government finally approved a bill to allow foreign education providers set up campuses in India and offer degrees. The Foreign Educational Institution (Regulation of Entry and Operation) Bill, 2010, was cleared by the Union Cabinet presided by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. This paves way for its introduction in Parliament. "This is a milestone which will enhance choices, increase competition and benchmark quality," HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said after the approval of the bill by Cabinet. The bill seeks to regulate the entry and operation of foreign institutions, which will set up centre and offer degrees in India. This bill was hanging fire for over last four years owing to opposition from various quarters, including the Left parties, over certain provisions. The bill was approved by the Cabinet without any change on Monday.
The regulatory body in higher education, either UGC or any other body that would replace UGC, will scrutinise the proposals of aspiring institution as per India's priorities and advice government whether to allow the institute operate in India. Sibal has already said that quota laws will not be applicable to foreign universities setting up campuses in India. The proposed law would facilitate the globally renowned institutes to participate in India's higher education sector. It will bring in foreign education providers for vocational education training also.

What makes Rajasthan royals special

Rajasthan Royals, owned by Emerging Media, represents the state of Rajasthan and is based in the 'Pink City' of Jaipur. The team embodies the royal elegance, style, valor and class of Rajasthan and its people. The Rajputs of Rajasthan are famous for their courage, strength and fighting prowess - qualities fittingly epitomized by the team as well. Just like the lions, the Rajasthan Royals are the kings of the IPL. The journey to the top however was not an easy one. The Royals were branded as the 'underdogs' as we boasted of no 'icon player' and consisted of hitherto lesser known cricketers. However, that did not deter us from believing in ourselves and performing to our potential. We began our campaign with a defeat which made our resolve to win the IPL even stronger. The defeat was followed by a string of victories all strung together by our legendary captain and coach, Shane Warne. Warnie was the inspiration behind the team's stupendous success in the IPL. He was ably supported by the team who rallied around their leader in unison. It was this special ability which helped us become the champions of the IPL inaugural trophy.
Rajasthan Royals, even though they were champions in 2008, are now considered among weakest team in IPL Season 3 even they're the team most fans love to support after their own. They possess the tournament's fastest bowler and perhaps its most destructive batsman but, a few overseas players apart, also a bunch of boys who aren't individually threatening. Their captain, formerly the world's greatest legspinner, is now a glamorous poker player, an expert at staying in fashion and the team's chief inspiration. He's fashioned a team in his own image, one that in his own words "plays to entertain".

Four Army jawans killed in a blast in a firing range in Pokhran in Rajasthan. In March 2008, three army personnel were killed and two others were injured during the 'Brazen Chariots' exercise in the same field firing range. St Xavier college Jaipur soon in Pink City

One of the oldest schools in the city, St Xavier School will be branching out to start its own college. The school, founded in 1941 by Jesuit Society, will be initially launching degree courses in its college, to be affiliated to Rajasthan University. In the first session starting in July 2010, the college will admit students in three streams-- Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA). The Jesuit Society plans a big campus -- similar to the school's -- either at Jagatpura or Ajmer Road, though the college will be run from the Hathroi Fort Road campus in the first year.
"This new initiative by the Jesuits was inspired by the present national higher education policy which involves expansion, excellence and inclusion. The college aims to transcend the existing level of education in Jaipur with the help of an expert faculty and a thoroughly researched curriculum, providing holistic development to its students," said Fr Varkey Perekkatt, manager, St Xavier's College. "The BBA and BCA streams will have 60 seats each, which, if the university allows, can go up to 100. However, we will have a minimum of 100 seats in the BCom stream, with at least two sections. The medium of instruction will be English with a highly-qualified faculty," said Fr Varkey. The college already got NOC for 11 subjects in arts and six in science stream, which will be launched once the college gets a full-fledged campus.

ONGC may setup Oil refinery in Barmer Rajasthan

Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC) may setup Oil refinery in barmer district of rajasthan as per initial reports from Petroleum minister Murli and media report. Earlier IOC has regretted its participation as equity partner in the proposed Barmer refinery due to the financial constraints faced by the corporation and now ONGC may brings some smile on face. Originally proposed in 2004-05, the project was declared economically unviable after the previous Vasundhara Raje government in Rajasthan did not agree to give fiscal incentive like interest free loan and sales tax exemption for the products to be produced at the 15 million tonnes a year unit. After Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot renewed the demand of setting up refinery project in the state last year, ONGC decided to do a feasibility study again considering the fiscal concession that the state government was willing to extend to the project.
The refinery was proposed to turn the crude oil produced by Cairn India from its Barmer fields into products. However, considering the fact that the peak oil production from the Cairn’s Barmer field, where ONGC has 30% stake, was only 8.75 million tonnes, which may last a maximum of seven years, the refinery was considered unviable. AUnion petroleum minister Murli Deora said the state would surpass all records in the next few months in petro production and the revenue in the form of royalty is estimated to be to the tune of Rs 5,000 crore once the production achieves its peak in the next few years.
Rajasthan’s Barmer-Jaisalmer basin would be the largest source of petroleum reserves in the country contributing to 21% of the total domestic production, he said. With more and more discoveries, it has the potential to emerge as the petroleum hub, he said. The minister reiterated that the final decision on the demand for refinery would be taken after the S C Tripathi committee submits its report. He asked the government to be patient and the central government would take a decision at the earliest. This refinary will held industrial growth in rajasthan as well as employment opportunity.
