CP Joshi is New Railways Minister

Road Transport and Highways Minister CP Joshi took over additional charge of the Ministry of Railways while six Ministers of TMC submitted their resignations to Prez Pranab Mukherjee on the issue of diesel price hike and FDI in retail and the Prez accepted it. Union Minister C P Joshi was on Friday given additional charge of Railway ministry, a day after the resignation of Mukul Roy and other Trinamool Congress ministers. According to Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson Venu Rajamony, Joshi was assigned with the additional charge by President Pranab Mukherjee on the advice of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The announcement came on a day the Prime Minister met the President amid speculation of a Cabinet reshuffle. Joshi already holds the portfolio of Road Transport and Highways ministry.
The President also accepted the resignation of Roy and five other members of Trinamool Congress after the party, which has 19 MPs in the Lok Sabha, withdrew its support to the UPA government. The others whose resignation was accepted by the President on the advice of the Prime Minister were Ministers of State Sudip Bandyopadhyay (Health and Family welfare), Saugata Roy (Urban Development), Choudhary Mohan Jatua (Information and Broadcasting), Sultan Ahmed (Tourism) and Sisir Adhikari(Rural Development). Mukul Roy was among the six ministers from Ms Banerjee's party who submitted their resignation letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last evening.

Mamata Banerjee withdraws support to UPA

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, the second biggest constituent of the UPA, on Tuesday dealt a major blow to the Manmohan Singh government when it decided to withdraw its support on the issue of petroleum price hike, FDI in retail and corruption. "We are withdrawing our support. Our ministers will go to Delhi, meet the Prime Minister and tender their resignations at 3 PM," TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced after a meeting of party MPs, top leaders and office bearers. However, Banerjee added a caveat saying if the Centre rolls back the decision on FDI in multi-brand retail, raise the cap on supply of subsidised LPG to 12 cylinders and reduction of diesel hike from Rs.5 to Rs. 3 or Rs.4, then the party would reconsider the decision to withdraw support. On Tuesday night declared that Trinamool Congress would pull out of the UPA government. After a two-hour long meeting with ministers, MPs and party leaders, she said said that it was not feasible for Trinamool Congress to remain within UPA II.
At a press conference in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee said: "We are withdrawing our support. Our six Trinamool ministers will go to Delhi, meet the Prime Minister and tender their resignations at 3 PM," TMC chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced after a meeting of party MPs, top leaders and office-bearers. "We are never being heard, so what is the use being in the Centre? I have given enough chance to the UPA II, but the Centre is only taxing the poor people. The price of petrol, diesel, fertilisers are on the rise. Even the government is putting enormous pressure on the common people by hiking the price of LPG." The Trinamool chief had wanted 12 cylinders per family at a subsidised rate, but it was not honoured. Banerjee said the FDI decision was unveiled to divert attention from the coal blocks allocation controversy involving the government. Moreover, there is no attempt by the Centre to bring back black money that is stashed abroad, she said. Mamata said that the Congress leaders had been regularly criticising her, but the Trinamool had been part of UPA II, but now it was not possible to continue with the Congress.

FDI in Retail - Lets play with Farmers !

Farmers is synonymous of Mercy in India, even after 65 years of Independence, all credit goes to our beloved Politicians and policy makers. On 15th September UPA Govt. allowed FDI in multi brand retail to benefit farmers or MNCs with Government's decision to allow foreign direct Investment (FDI) in multi brand retail in India. Consortium of Indian Farmers Associations (CIFA) Secretary General P Chengal Reddy welcomed the move saying that it would help in raising the income of the farmers while Many expert feel that new policy will only help the multi-national companies and more than 3 Crore small shop owners will be impacted. Buy my point is that Why Farmers have to Pay Price always, why Not Shop-Keepers this time.
Lets have a look at some statistics and data on Farmers condition in India. The country has seen over a quarter of a million farmers’ suicides between 1995 and 2010. The National Crime Records Bureau’s latest report on ‘Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India’ places the number for 2010 at 15,964. That brings the cumulative 16-year total from 1995 - when the NCRB started recording farm suicide data - to 2,56,913, the worst-ever recorded wave of suicides of this kind in human history. So don't we have any responsibility towards more than 70 Billion people(65% of population) working in agriculture industry. In our current Product-Price Graph, Farmers are always looser as price is decided by Shop-Keepers, Distributors, Stockist, Agent/Dalals/Adatiyas while Farmers is just a resources of Money for these 3% people. So whenever any Policy try to break this Hierarchy, it is like challenging the more than 100 years old Ego and People start shouting No more FDI, No Foreign Companies even though they are shouting on Tata Docomo (Docomo Japan), Vodafone(74% UK), Airtel (34% SingTel), Uninor, MTS etc.. but still they don't want FDI in Retail because it minimize their profits. So when its all about Profit and Money why Not Farmers gets a chance to grow and make Money. FDI may be one of life changer to Farmers just like IT industry in late 90s, changed life of Indian Middle class with millions of High payee jobs in BPO and IT. So lets give a fair chance to BHARAT-I this time in two way direct channel without any profit sucking Agents. So its time to Stop playing with Farmers and people involved in Agriculture as Money Tree, Let them grow with World and Indian GDP.

Bharat bandh on 20th September 2012

BJP-led NDA will hold a country-wide protest or "Bharat Bandh" on 20th September 2012 protesting against the central government's decision to hike diesel price and allow FDI in multi-brand retail. Announcing the alliance's decision here, BJP leader LK Advani said, "The NDA on Sep 15 decided to hold a nation-wide strike on 20th of this month. I am sure that the suffocation felt by the people for a long time is about to come to an end."
In a joint statement, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav along with Left parties, JD(S), BJD and TDP alleged that the UPA government has "stuck cruel blows on the people one after another" by raising diesel price, limiting subsidised cooking gas, opening up of multi-brand retail and disinvestment of PSUs. "Let us all unite to stop these measures which will further burden the people and ruin their livelihood. Let there be a powerful protest on September 20 through hartals, picketing, demonstrations and court arrest programmes," the statement said. Besides Yadav, the statement was signed by H D Deve Gowda (JD-S), Prakash Karat (CPI-M), S Sudhakar Reddy (CPI), Naveen Patnaik (BJD), Chandrababu Naidu (TDP), Debabrata Biswas (Forward Bloc) and T J Chandrachoodan (RSP). BJP-led NDA separately announced that it will hold a nation-wide strike on the same day, September 20, to demand rollback of FDI in multi-brand retail and the Rs 5 hike in diesel prices.

MGNREGA work days increased to 150 days

Govt. today increased the number of guaranteed work days under MGNREGA to 150 days and cut interest rates on rescheduled crop loans to 7 per cent for one year. These decisions were approved by the EGoM on drought headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, they said. "In the meeting, various proposals were discussed. It approved slashing of interest rate on rescheduled crop loans of drought-hit farmers to 7 per cent from 12 per cent," a source privy to the development said. The ministerial panel suggested that the ministry take the proposal to the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for approval, the sources said.
Another proposal on raising number of work days under the Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MNREGA) was also approved for implementation in drought-affected states for one year. "The number of guaranteed work under the MGNREGA has been increased to 150 days from 100 days," the source said. Under MGNREGA scheme, the government assures 100 days of work every year to each household in rural areas. The government has provided Rs 33,000 crore to implement the scheme this fiscal, as against Rs 31,000 crore in 2011-12.

Cabinet approve Bill for SC/ST Promotion, Bill in Rajya Sabha today

Cabinet approved the proposal to provide reservation to SC/STs in promotions, which would require certain changes in the constitution. Changes will also be made in articles 341 and 342 of the constitution, following the advice of the government's top law officer, Attorney General GE Vahanvati, on the issue.
