Pervez Musharraf declared proclaimed offender

An Anti-Terrorist Special Court Monday declared former President Pervez Musharraf a proclaimed offender in Benazir Bhutto murder case and ordered publicizing it in the newspapers. The Anti-Terrorist Special Court judge was hearing the arrested accused persons in Benazir Bhutto assassination case in the Adyala Jail here. FIA officials presented the report relating to the un-serviced warrant of arrest of Pervez Musharraf, which stated that the British authorities have declined to comply with the warrant of arrest of Pervez Musharraf and have taken the stand that there was no agreement between the two countries for the handing over of the accused persons. FIA made a plea for starting the process of declaring Pervez Musharraf a proclaimed offender.
Later, FIA prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar told media that the court has also disposed off the contempt of court case against FIA, following the restoration of the investigation officer to whom once again the investigation has been assigned. All Pakistan Muslim League spokesman Fawad Chaudhry reacting on his party leader being declared proclaimed offender, said that this aims at stalling Pervez Musharaf’s coming home, but this would not deter him in his determination.

Bengal win Santosh Trophy 2011

Bengal retained the Santosh Trophy with a 2-1 victory over Manipur in the summit clash to win their 31st title of the national championships on Monday. Strikers Branco Cardozo (21st minute) and Budhiram Tudu (48th) scored for Bengal while Manipur pulled one back through Nabachandra Singh in the 75th minute at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium. Manipur were playing in only their second final after winning the title in 2002. West Bengal sports minister Madan Mitra congratulated the state football team on winning the prestigious Santosh Trophy after defeating Manipur in the final in Guwahati. "We are happy for the super performance of the Bangal soccer team who has restored the past glory of Bengal in football arena," Mitra said.
The Bengal team was leading 1-0 prior to the intermission. Manipur, upbeat after having held
Bengal 2-2 in an earlier league match, was eyeing their second Santosh Trophy after 2002. This was the Northeast state’s second final appearance. But the more experienced Bengal side prevented Manipur from repeating history. The two teams had met each other in 2002 with Manipur coming up trumps. “We were without our star players who were not released by the top clubs into I-League, but our boys did us proud,” said Bengal coach and former international Shabbir Ali. Bengal had much of the possession in the first half, scoring within the first 20 minutes. They consolidated soon after the breather, but Manipur came back strongly to reduce the deficit by a goal and coming close to scoring at least two more. “Our finishing has been poor in this tournament,” said Manipur coach S Ekendra Singh. “But full marks to Bengal for a good show.”

Mansoon to enter Rajasthan by 20 June

South-west monsoon has arrived in Kerala and this is also a good news for the people of the Rajasthan, especially for farmers preparing to sow kharif crops as mansoon will soon enter in Rajasthan. According to Met department, monsoon will enter from the southern part of the state and will cover Kota region, including Kota, Jhalawar, Baran and Banswara on June 20. It is expected to hit the state capital on June 25. The ongoing pattern of upper air cyclonic circulation and moisture can’t be associated with the monsoon but these factors will play a catalyst for timely arrival of the monsoon here, said an official.
“The scattered rain in some parts of eastern and southern Rajasthan can’t be taken as pre-monsoon showers but certainly these are indicative of an early monsoon in the state,” he said. The monsoon will progress towards western Rajasthan from July 2. “It will reach Jodhpur by July 2 and Bikaner, Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh and Churu by July 8. It will hit the desert area, including Jaisalmer and Barmer, by July 13,” an official said.

Kumarakom, the pristine tourist destination in Kerala, has recorded the heaviest rainfall of 12 cm, he said.
"The onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala took place in association with an upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Arabian Sea off Kerala coast," the Indian Meterological Department said in a statement. "Southwest monsoon has also advanced into most parts of south Arabian Sea and some parts of Tamil Nadu, south Bay of Bengal and south Andaman Sea." "Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon over some more parts of Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Kerala, some more parts of Tamil Nadu, south Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea and some parts of Karnataka during the next 2-3 days," the statement said.

Fire breaks in Secretariat building in Jaipur

A major fire broke out in the Rajasthan government's secretariat building here Saturday morning, police said. No casualty was reported, but many documents and computers were charred. "Around 8 a.m., security guards at the secretariat saw smoke coming out from the first floor of the northern end of the main building. They called the fire brigade, and four tenders took around half-an-hour to contain the fire," a police officer told IANS. There was no casualty as it was a holiday.
Police said the maximum damage occurred in one room of the protocol section of the general administration department (GAD), where documents and other equipment, including computers and furniture, were reduced to ashes. "The cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit in the cooling plant. However, we are investigating the matter," he added.

Sex ratio fall: Rajasthan steps up raids on clinics

Alarmed over the state's skewed sex ratio, the Rajasthan government has planned more steps to curb pre-natal sex determination tests at ultrasound clinics here. The steps include increasing the number of health department inspection teams and equipping them with devices like hidden cameras and voice recorders to keep an eye on these clinics, an official said Friday. These devices will help the health department teams which have exclusive responsibilities to raid clinics offering ultrasound scanning services and look for evidence of pre-natal sex determination tests, the officer added. The state government has also increased the amount of money given to a person who complains about errant ultrasound clinics. "Earlier, the award money was Rs.1,000, but from now on if the complaint is found true, the complainant will get a Rs. 5,000 reward," said the officer.
According to the figures released by the Census 2011, Rajasthan has 883 girls between the ages of 0 to 6 for every 1,000 boys in the same age group. The child sex ratio in 2001 was 909. "It is a very alarming situation and more vigilant steps are needed to rectify the situation," a senior heath department official told IANS. He added that there was only one state-level health department team which used to check the records at ultrasound clinics and act on the complaints of pre-natal sex determination tests. "But we have decided to increase them to four and equip them with hidden cameras and voice recorders," said the officer. He said legal action is taken against errant clinics under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PCPNDT Act). But, according to him, proving them guilty under the Act is generally difficult. "These teams will record everything using these devices while an inspection is carried out. The evidence gathered by using these devices will help us prosecute these clinics properly," said the officer.

Court directed Scindia kin to pay 6.5 Lakh BSNL Phone Bill

Gwalior court has directed the three daughters and grandson of former BJP MP late Vijayaraje Scindia to pay up a Rs 6.52 lakh telephone bill that's pending for more than a decade. The BSNL landline phone was used by Vijayaraje Scindia during her tenure in the Lok Sabha during the nineties. She died in January 2001 and the bill has remained unpaid. The court of district and sessions judge Lakshmi Sharma on Friday dismissed an appeal from the Scindia family and directed that the bill along with an additional interest of 12% be paid by daughters Usha Raje, former chief minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje, BJP MP from Madhya Pradesh Yashodhara Raje and grandson Union minister of state Jyotiraditya Scindia. In September 2003, a PIL was filed in a Mumbai court about the non-payment of the bill. In 2006, the BSNL demanded payment and the family moved the Gwalior court against it. “The district and sessions court on Friday said since the daughters are the natural heirs, they should pay the bill,” BSNL lawyer Dilip Avasthi explained. “The grandson had been included because he is the son of late Madhavrao Scindia and therefore, another natural heir.”

After the meeting was over, a priest named Swami Nityanand approached Agnivesh and on the pretext of garlanding him hit him on the face. For a moment, Agnivesh was unsettled and his turban fell off, but he soon regained his composure. The police arrested Nityanand. Preliminary enquiry suggested the young priest from Kheda district in Gujarat was upset with statements that Agnivesh made earlier regarding Amarnath Yatra.
The man slapped Agnivesh during the public meeting here, and was identified as Mahant Nityanand Das. He had taken umbrage at Agnivesh's recent comment that the Amarnath shivling was made out of artificial ice. Das had announced a reward of Rs.51,000 to anyone who would hurl a shoe at Agnivesh. A mahant at a temple near Nadiad, Nityanand approached Agnivesh, who was with anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare at the public meeting here. As Agnivesh moved to shake hands, the mahant slapped him. Agnivesh’s turban was also knocked off and fell to the ground.

Kolayat Land acquisition takes Political color in Rajasthan

Bikaner's Kolayat Land acquisition takes Political color in Rajasthan when dozens of BJP leaders join protest. Farmers agitation against land acquisition in Kolayat in Bikaner district started on a violent note on Tuesday when thousands of protesters clashed with police and smashed a couple of government vehicles. The farmers led by local MLA and former minister Devi Singh Bhati were demanding better compensation for their lands acquired by the state government and a rehabilitation package on the lines of that given by the neighbouring Haryana government. “Rajasthan government is applying the land acquisition Act that was framed by the British for colonial India to axe the farmers’ interests. This will not be tolerated,” the legislator said addressing the peasants’ Maha Padav (mass gathering) at Kolayat.
The state government initiated a process to acquire nearly 8000 bigha of agricultural land in six villages of Kolayat tehsil in February this year. The land is to be handed over to the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited and a Hyderabad-based private company for a thermal power plant. To protest against the government thousands of people, including farmers, labourers, women and BJP workers started assembling outside the Kolayat tehsil office since early Tuesday. Braving the scorching heat, the protestors were pouring in at the Maha Padav site travelling in buses, jeeps, tractors and other vehicles from all over the district. They shouted slogans against the Ashok Gehlot-government, terming it “anti-farmer”. State BJP general secretary Satish Punia, Ratangarh MLA Rajkumar Rinwa, Khajuwala MLA Vishwa Nath, Bikaner West MLA Gopal Joshi and other BJP leaders were present.

BCCI serves showcause notice to RCA secretary Dixit

BCCI has served a showcause notice to Rajasthan Cricket Association(RCA) secretary Sanjay Dixit for his remarks about Sachin Tendulkar on Twitter. Reports say the BCCI president Shashank Manohar has termed these remarks as an 'unprecedented' act by an administrator. Dixit has been given 15 days to reply to the notice. Mr Dixit had criticized Sachin Tendulkar for blaming the Jaipur pitch for Mumbai Indians’ poor performance against Rajasthan Royals. Put into bat, Mumbai were bowled out for a paltry 94 and Rajasthan achieved the target in 18.1 overs. After the match, Sachin said that the pitch was ‘two-paced’ and the ball had ‘kept low’. Sanjay Dixit tweeted: Sachin gets out on a full toss. Can’t blame the pitch this time after Tendulkar had been dismissed for 51 against Punjab in the next league match.
Earlier, the BCCI had asked Dixit and Warne to appear for a hearing over their spat regarding the pitch at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium IPL Commissioner Chirayu Amin had called the hearing following a complaint lodged by Dixit, who had alleged that the skipper of Rajasthan Royals had publicly abused him. Warne was alleged to have blamed the RCA official for not acceding to his demand for a pitch that would have suited the home team Rajasthan Royals in their IPL match against the Chennai Super Kings.

Microsoft Windows 8 launch in 2012 - Steve Ballmer

Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer confirmed that Windows 8, the next iteration of the software giant's operating system, will be available in 2012. Speaking at a Microsoft Developer Forum in Tokyo today, Ballmer said Microsoft is "obviously hard at work on the next version of Windows." "As we look forward to the next generation of Windows systems, which will come out next year, there's a whole lot more coming," he continued. "As we progress through the year, you ought to expect to hear a lot about Windows 8. Windows 8 slates, tablets, PCs, a variety of different form factors."
Rumours suggest that it will also offer improved voice support, turn-by-turn navigation, visual voicemail and automatic Facebook check-ins. Only the last of these, however, would be a feature not currently on offer on both Apple and Google’s operating systems, either free or via a paid-for app. Some rumours have also suggested that new devices and WiFi tethering, allowing users to share their phone’s data connection with other devices, could also be included. Although tethering too is now also offered by the Apple iPhone and has been a part of Google devices for some time, Microsoft has previously said however that it has no plans to include it. Analysts have remained sceptical at Windows Phone 7’s ability to crack a market dominated by Apple and Android. Google recently reported that 100million Android devices had been activated. Microsoft’s deal with Nokia, however, may give it a new advantage. Eldar Murtazin, an analyst who was among the first to identify Microsoft’s intention to do a deal with Nokia, has said that although Microsoft has shipped 1.5 million phones to partners, approximately 900,000 of those remain unsold so far.

Sachin Pilot arrested by UP Police, released

Minister of state for communications and information technology & Rajasthan's Ajmer MP Sachin Pilot was arrested by the UP Police on his way to violence-hit Bhatta Parsaul in Greater Noida. Pilot was arrested by the police under section 151. He was on his way to meet the farmers who have been agitating against land acquisition. Sachin Pilot was taken into preventive custody by the police at Lal Chowk outside the Bhatta-Parsaul villages - the epicentre of the land agitation in Uttar Pradesh. Claiming that he had not violated the law, Pilot after his release said, "We wanted to go to the villages...the UP police blocked the national highway for over an hour. They brought us here to the police lines without any reason. We had not planned meetings or speeches. We just wanted to give condolences."
The minister had earlier, alongwith 100 supporters, visited the Dasna jail in Ghaziabad where he met farmers lodged there since the agitation in the villages began. Pilot accused the state government of large-scale land-grabbing and demanded a "throrough probe" into the alleged atrocities on the villagers. "We would like a thorough probe to be conducted. They were treated badly for sure, and many people have said this before. But you know that if you go into any village and speak to a woman about rape with a camera to her face, it will be tough to get the truth. We would like this matter to be thoroughly investigated, and the people who have conducted a skewed investigation be subject to strict investigation also", Pilot said just before he was arrested.
