Agent Vinod shoot hits roadblock in Rajasthan

Saif Ali Khan - Kareena Kapoor starrer 'Agent Vinod' directed by Sriram Raghavan, has hit a roadblock while shooting in Rajasthan. It is learnt that the Rajasthan Government has refused the production the permission to resume the film's shoot at the historic Kuldhara village near Jaisalmer. The reason behind this sudden stalling of the film is that apparently said to be that the production company never obtained the permission to shoot in the historic location. Besides, though production continued to flout the rules and shoot, they even defaced the ancient site and raised structures to suit their shooting requirements without a permission to do so.
Following up on the complaints, the local police have booked three crewmembers of the film co-produced by Saif's Illuminati Films and Eros International. Further it is learnt that the set which was created to shoot the climax sequence of the film was said to have acquired all the necessary permissions and hence the crew went ahead with the remodelling. Though the issue has been dissipated, Saif is apparently no longer keen on shooting the sequence at the same location. Meanwhile Saif said "We have the highest respect for the cultural heritage of our country and we even clean up beaches when we shoot there. Sometimes we do get blamed for what other units have done in the past and I guess that is the part and parcel of working in India. Sometimes things go wrong but knowingly we won't damage anything,".

Now, pay by meter for autos in Jaipur

Autos in Jaipur will run by meter as traffic police geared up to seize autorickshaws if they are found running without meters from Monday(31st Oct.) in Pink City Jaipur. The traffic police had asked all the autos to run as per meters from October 1 by issuing a notification. The notification had set Rs 13 fare for the first kilometre and Rs 8 per km subsequently. The unions of autorickshaws had demanded traffic police and transport department to give them five months to repair around 6,000 autos in which meters are defunct. The city has 12,000 autos as per registered by the regional transport office (RTO).
However, the police gave them three weeks time to repair meters and asked them to charge fare as per meter from October 27. Meantime, nearly 1,000 drivers could get their meters repaired while 5,000 have yet to install. The primary reason of this failure was severe dearth of repair shops, which can install meters.   "The government has authorised only one shop situated on MI road to repair meters. Thus, meters could be repaired only in 800 to 1000 autos in the given deadline while 5,000 autos have still to cope with defunct meters," said Amar Singh, president of the Pink City Auto Rickshaw Union.

Bhutan's royal couple in Rajasthan for Honeymoon

Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema arrived here this afternoon on a five-day visit to Rajasthan's Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur. Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and his newlywed queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck on Saturday visited Mehrangarh fort here as the guest of the royals of Jodhpur. The Bhutanese royal couple arrived Jodhpur last night and were taken to Umaid Palace, where they were accorded a traditional welcome before being accommodated in the Maharani Suit. The erstwhile ruler of Jodhpur, Gaj Singh, threw a gala dinner in the honour of the newly-wed couple. Earlier in the day, Gaj Singh and the curator of the fort Karni Singh Jasole took the Bhutanese couple to a brief tour of Mehrangarh fort. The couple was awe-struck with the magnificence of the 15th century fort and could not resist expression the feeling.
After their brief sojourn of Jodhpur, the Bhutanese king and queen left for Udaipur, the last destination of their honeymoon trip to the princely state of Rajasthan where they came on a five-day visit. This is the first abroad visit of Wangchuck after his wedding on October 13 and the fourth trip to India since his coronation in November 2008. The couple reached India on a nine-day state visit on October 24.

Rajendra Singh quits Team Anna, slams Bedi, Kejriwal

Magsaysay awardee Rajendra Singh, along with another social activist P.V. Rajagopal, recently quit the core group of Anna Hazare's movement protesting against its taking sides in the just concluded Hisar Lok Sabha by-election. “There is no place for decent people in Team Anna. There is no inner democracy there. When we demand that the governments function more democratically, how could we ignore this aspect within our movement,” Mr. Singh, who was here, asked, talking to The Hindu on Thursday. “I quit the group because I could not have been a party to the kind of power brokering they did in the Hisar by-election,” he said. “At the outset, it was decided that the movement would not have anything to do with party politics. Even when the central theme is fighting corruption, Team Anna supported corrupt persons.” Mr. Singh said the decision to take sides in the by-election was made without consulting all members of the core group.
He said he and P G Rajgopal dissociated themselves from Hazare's movement as it had "deviated from its objective". "We thought the campaign will also raise public issues related to water and land but it did not do it," Singh said. The popular and media support to Hazare's anti-corruption campaign in Delhi had gone to the head of his aides and made them arrogant, he claimed. Describing Kiran Bedi and Arvind Kejriwal as the most arrogant members of Team Anna, he said being former bureaucrats they are in the habit of throwing their weight about and imposing themselves on others. Singh also said it was wrong to think that he had opted out of Team Anna out of fear of the Government.

Over 50 killed in Arunachal bridge collapse

Over 50 people were feared dead after a wirerope suspension bridge over the swift Kameng river collapsed this evening at Seppa in Arunchal Pradesh's East Kameng district. The hanging bridge at the entrance to Seppa town, the district headquarters, collapsed as people were crossing it, with 50 feared dead, East Kameng SP Kime Aya said. Five bodies were found by rescue teams comprising the CRPF, ITBP and the district police, he said. The swift current in the river and darkness was impeding the search and rescue teams, the SP said. "Two people who swam back to safety informed that there were over 100 people who had gone on the hunt for 'teri', an insect which is a delicacy for the tribals, at around 5:30 pm which was not the right time," Aya said.
This is the second such incident in the Eastern Himalayas since October 23, when a wooden bridge collapsed near Darjeeling, killing 34 of some 100 people who had gathered on it for a political rally.

Rajasthan Congress leader Hari singh quits party

Former Congress minister and senior Jat leader Hari Singh resigned from the Congress on Monday, but not before hitting his favourite targets – chief minister Ashok Gehlot, his team of ministers and the party functionaries. The 75-year-old leader, who served as vice-president in the previous Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee, was issued at least three show notices by the party since August 2010 for publicly making allegations against PCC’s previous and present presidents and the chief minister.
Pradesh Congress Committee's (PCC) disciplinary committee had sought an explanation from Singh on October 17 for criticising Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and PCC chief over the sacking of former Water Resource minister Mahipal Maderna. "I was being sidelined by the party after the 2008 Assembly elections at the behest of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former PCC chief C P Joshi. I am being punished for stating truth. Now, I have no plan to join any political party and I will work in interest of people of Rajasthan and moreover for the peasantry," he told reporters here. In the letter, Singh said he was unhappy over the sorry state-of-affairs in Congress. Accusing the party of adopting double standards, he said no action was taken against Jaipur MP Mahesh Joshi and Rajya Sabha MP Ashk Ali Tank even after they exchanged heated words at a party's function in July. Singh held Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and state Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal responsible for administrative failure which led to the recent Gopalgarh incident in Bharatpur.     In another development at Alwar, the Akhil Bharatiya Varshiya Jat Mahasabha’s Rajasthan president Radhey Ram Godara hit out at the chief minister for sacking Maderna while failing to act against the other “tainted” ministers.

Rajasthan CM demands Special status to state

Rajasthan Chief Minister(CM) Ashok Gehlot once again demanded special status for Rajasthan at the 56th meeting of the National Development Council (NDC) at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Saturday. He said that keeping in view the peculiar geographical condition, scarcity of water and drought-like situations in the state, special status is required. "We have identified the major challenges of balancing the increasing demand of water, infrastructure development, industrial development and creation of employment opportunities before us in the next Plan," he said while addressing the 56th meeting of the National Development Council (NDC) here.  The Chief Minister pointed out that the norms assumed for various components of resources pertaining to the Centre "should not be applied to developing states such as Rajasthan" while estimating different sources of states' resources for financing the 12th Plan.
Commenting on the power scenario in the state, Gehlot said Rajasthan had considerable potential for power generation through non-conventional energy sources. "In this direction, we have planned comprehensive power evacuation project of Rs 2,700 crore for carrying renewable energy to load centres and the project proposal has been sent to Union New and Renewable Energy Ministry," he said. Noting that cost of supply of electricity in the state was high due to high cost of transportation of coal, Gehlot said the "Centre should evolve a mechanism so that the retail tariffs in all the states are comparable and more or less similar." On the density of National Highways in the state, the Chief Minister said the state had 1.67 km per sq km of such roads which was less than the national average of 2.15 km. "Therefore, new national highways should be declared in Rajasthan... Adequate increase in fund allocation be made for strengthening and renovation of national highways having less than two lanes," he said.
What is Special Status State Category: Special Status State category are given special treatment from central Govt. for various development programs and budgets. Presently, 11 small States flaunt the special status tag. Namely, the seven North-eastern States, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. ‘Special’ status is accorded to States having harsh terrain, inadequate economic and social infrastructure, backwardness, predominant tribal population and a weak resource base. The special State status is in the context of Centre-State finances. It entails a State getting a bigger share of the Centre's resource pie and significant excise duty concessions to help industrial development. Apart from that, 30% of the Centre's gross budgetary support for Plan expenditure goes to special-category States. Thus, given this backdrop any change in the share of the Central assistance pie going to the 11 special category States would raise controversy, within the group and without.

Gehlot lays foundation stone for RTI building in Jaipur

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today said that misuse of information accessed under Right to Information (RTI) Act for personal motives should be discouraged. Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the new building of Rajasthan Information Commission here, he said the RTI plays an important role in bringing transparency in governance and eradicating corruption but the practice of misusing information obtained through the RTI must be discouraged.
He said it is unfortunate that attacks on RTI activists have increased in recent times and stressed such matters must be dealt with effectively. He said Rajasthan Public Service Guarantee Act is being implemented in the state from November 14 to ensure time-bound public service of certain departments. Later referring to media reports on various court orders, which pulled up state government, Gehlot said that often the comments made by the court are misquoted in the media thus sending a wrong message to the public. He said that the news in the media is carried without any reference thus changing the meaning.

Rajasthan Govt. launches Online Pension system

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today launched the online Social Security Pension System http://rajpension.nic.in/ and released the folder providing information about various pension schemes at a ceremony here. This is an e-Governance initiative for effective and timely disbursement of pension and it would speed up the whole process from sanction to disbursal of the pension under various schemes. The Chief Minister viewed the presentation given by the National Informatics Centre(NIC) about the online system. He applauded the efforts made by all the stakeholders associated with this system and gave directions to the officials regarding simplification of the system. "The system is a web based solution to facilitate and maintain information pertaining to application, verification, sanction and disbursement of pension under various social security pension schemes," an official spokesman said.
It would help in applying online for pension, online pension case tracking, online status enquiries, electronic data transfer with Banks and Post Offices and printing of Money Orders besides providing better management and monitoring facility of the pension schemes, he said. The system would be used by all SDOs, BDOs, Tehsildars, Treasury Officers and Sub Treasury Officers, he said, adding the state government was providing Social Security Pension to old-aged people, widows and disabled persons of deprived and weaker sections of the society. Currently more than 12 lakh pensioners were being benefited by the Social Security Pension Schemes and Rs 700 crore being disbursed to the beneficiaries, the spokesman said.

Former Libyan Leader Gadhafi is dead

Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi was killed, National Transitional Council (NTC) official Abdel Majid told Reuters news agency as per media report. His killing, which came swiftly after his capture near Sirte, is the most dramatic single development in the Arab Spring revolts that have unseated rulers in Egypt and Tunisia and threatened the grip on power of the leaders of Syria and Yemen.
The NTC official, Abdel Majid Mlegta, had said earlier that Gaddafi was captured and wounded in both legs at dawn on Thursday as he tried to flee in a convoy which NATO warplanes had attacked. "He was also hit in his head," said Mlegta. "There was a lot of firing against his group and he died." Asked if there was photographic evidence to prove that Gaddafi was dead, Mlegta said, "We have the footage but it is not available now." There was no independent confirmation of his remarks. Mlegta reported Gaddafi's death after Libyan interim government fighters took Sirte on Thursday, extinguishing the last significant resistance by forces loyal to the former leader and ending a two-month siege.

Maderna sacking: Jat agitates, 18 Sarpanch Resigns

Angered by sacking of water resources minister Mahipal Maderna from the Ashok Gehlot-led government over ANM Bhanwari Devi episode, the Jat community is up in arms against the Congress government in the state. Maderna's sacking has evoked reaction in his native district of Jodhpur, with some elected representatives of the panchayati raj Institutions sending their resignations to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi. A day after the removal of Rajasthan water resources minister Mahipal Maderna from Ashok Gehlot’s cabinet, 18 Jat sarpanches resigned from Osian, Maderna’s constituency in Jodhpur district. Members of 11 panchayat samitis and four zila parishads, also belonging to Jodhpur district, submitted their resignations in support of Maderna who belongs to the Jat community. Maderna was removed from the cabinet in connection with the alleged kidnapping and suspected murder of Dalit nurse Bhanwari Devi. Dalit leaders, on the other hand, have welcomed the removal of Maderna. Chaturaram Deshbandhu, leader of the Sansi community, said: “The Dalits of Rajasthan are highly obliged to him (Gehlot). It should have been better if Maderna had resigned himself.”
State Congress chief Dr Chandrabhan also supported Maderna’s removal. “I believe ...the CM did not have another option. Gehlot has the right to include or remove any minister from the cabinet,” he said. Bhanwari Devi allegedly had in her possession a sex CD of herself and Maderna and she was using it to blackmail the minister. She went missing on September 1 from the Bilara area of Jodhpur, and her husband Amar Chand named Maderna as an accused in the FIR. The Jodhpur bench of the Rajasthan high court on Monday once again reprimanded the state while hearing the petition of Amar Chand. On Monday, the CBI team investigating the case questioned Amar Chand for more than three hours. The team also questioned a Congress leader at Kishangargh in Ajmer district, where Maderna used to stay during his visits.

More Ministers to face heat in Rajasthan

With Mahipal Maderana sacked from the Rajasthan cabinet over his alleged involvement in the disappearance of nurse Bhanwari Devi, at least three other ministers are also likely to be axed or their portfolios changed in the near future. Maderana's ouster Sunday is one of the steps taken by Congress Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to help his government wriggle out of controversies surrounding his ministers. A clean-up seems imminent. Water resources minister Maderana allegedly features in a CD showing him in a compromising position with the missing nurse, who it is widely believed may have been murdered.
Other factors, including the displeasure of the minority community after Bharatpur's Gopalgarh violence and some ministers' involvement in corruption, have also forced the Congress leadership in New Delhi to put things in order before the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections next year. Party sources say a cabinet reshuffle is likely. The ministers in the line of fire are Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal, Food and Civil Supply Minister Babulal Naagar, Agriculture Minister Bharosi Lal Jatav and possibly Minister for Mining and Environment Ramlal Jaat. Dhariwal is being directly targeted by the Meo Muslim community here after the Gopalgarh violence that claimed 10 lives, the majority of them Muslims, and left 21 injured Sep 14.

New Sports Bill to bring Sports Federations under RTI: AjayMaken

Union Sports Minister Ajay Maken has said that the revised National Sports Bill will bring all the National Sports Federations under the purview of RTI Act being public authority. Sports Minister Ajay Maken told a press conference in New Delhi on Monday that the revised Bill has allowed the national bodies to follow the rules of their international federations which are in conflict with the WADA norms. "In view of the BCCI's objections, we have decided to exempt cricketers from some anti-doping norms. The ICC does not follow some WADA norms and in these cases the rules of international federation, in this case the ICC, will prevail over the WADA Code," Maken said. "It is not that the WADA Code will not apply to cricketers but in those cases where there is conflict, the ICC rules will prevail. It is also not an exemption to BCCI, it is to the ICC," he said.
Last year, the ICC had decided not to follow the contentious 'whereabouts' clause of WADA, which required the cricketers to provide information of their availability for test for few hours in a day for three months in advance, on the objection of Indian cricketers and the BCCI. The revised Bill, which will be re-sent to the Cabinet after it asked the ministry to rework on certain provisions, retained other contentious provisions including the age and tenure limitation of the Indian Olympic Association and National Sports Federations officials. The offices of the Sports Ombudsman and the National Sports Development Council have been removed from the earlier Bill. An exclusion clause has also been inserted in the Right to Information Act to protect certain information pertaining to selection and appointment of athletes and coaches, performance of an athlete and relating to health, fitness and doping issues. As many as 14 changes have been made to the original bill that was rejected by the cabinet. A specific clause has been inserted in the revised Bill -- Section 15(1) -- which would exclude applicability of those provisions of the WADA/NADA Code to which an international federation is not subject. "This has been done since NADA functions under the WADA Code and if at the international level there are certain provisions of the WADA Code to which the international federation is not subject, then the logical corollary is that those provisions should not be administered by NADA on the sport of that NSF," Maken said. Maken said he was hopeful of getting the revised Bill cleared by the Cabinet though the sticky issues, including those pertaining to age and tenure limitations still remain.

Rajasthan Minister Mahipal Maderna sacked in Bhanwari Devi Case

Rajasthan Water Resources Minister Mahipal Maderana was Sunday sacked by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot over his alleged involvement in the disappearance of a nurse more than a month ago, official sources said. Under widespread criticism that he was not acting against an influential ministerial colleague from the Jat community, the Congress chief minister finally bowed to public pressure. Maderana was among those named in a First Information Report (FIR) after nurse Bhanwari Devi remained absent from duty from Aug 25, confined herself to her home for a few days and then vanished without trace Sep 1. Rumours quickly gripped the state that she allegedly featured in a CD in a "compromising position" with the minister, who repeatedly denied he had anything to do with her. Under all-round attack, the Rajasthan government ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the case after the Rajasthan Police was pulled up for allegedly not taking on Maderana. The sources said the recommendation to remove Maderana from the cabinet was forwarded to Governor Shivraj Patil, who signed the orders in Chandigarh Sunday evening. Industry and Excise Minister Rajendra Pareek of Sikar was given additional charge of Maderana's department. The Rajasthan High Court Oct 13 asked police to explain why they had not questioned those named in the case.
The court sought the explanation when counsel for the nurse's husband Amarchand objected to Maderana not being questioned by police though his name figured in the FIR covering charges of rape, kidnap and murder. The next hearing in the case is due Monday. informed sources said the chief minister initially asked Maderana to quit but he declined. Jats are a dominant force in at least 40-50 of Rajasthan's 200 assembly constituencies. The additional chief judicial magistrate in Jodhpur Sep 24 directed the police to probe Maderana's role under sections 376 (rape), 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. Police have arrested a government contractor from Jodhpur's Bilada area and had detained three youths from Sikar district but let them off for want of evidence. During interrogation, the name of Shahbuddin, a mechanic from Pipad area here, also came up. An officer said he is suspected to be the key link who can lead the police to the woman but he too has vanished.

Former Karnataka CM Yeddyurappa arrested

Former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa arrest as he surrendered before a local court after he was denied bail in two cases of corruption. He was arrested and sent to jail. Yeddyurappa, the Bharatiya Janata Party's first chief minister in south India, quit in July over graft charges. He was jailed  after a trial court rejected his bail plea in two cases of corruption and ordered his arrest. He has been sent to Judicial custody till October 22.
The Karnataka BJP issued a statement on Saturday saying that Yeddyurappa would move higher court against the Lokayukta court warrant. The Lokayukta Court asked the police to produce Yeddyurappa before the court on Tuesday. Yeddyurappa can seek bail on Tuesday or he can challenge it before the high court. Reacting to the development, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that it showed the double standard of the BJP. "A bail is denied only when court finds some case against a person. This is the CM who was reluctant to leave office and when he left, made a lot of noise," said Singhvi.

HC slams Rajasthan Govt over Bhanwari devi case

Rajasthan high court on Tuesday criticised the state government on the issue of the kidnapping and suspected murder of government nurse and folk artist Bhanwari Devi. While hearing the petition of Amar Chand Nat, Bhanwari's husband, the Jodhpur Bench of the high court termed the state government "a total failure" and said such a "worthless government has never been seen in the history of Rajasthan". The high court will now monitor the case every alternate day. The court also commented adversely on the role of home minister Shanti Dhariwal. It said that the police wanted to investigate the matter objectively, but there was pressure from the home ministry. The court also ruled out the need of probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the matter. "If the case is still not solved, the matter will be investigated under the supervision of the court," the court ruled. The next hearing of the case is on October 13.
Meanwhile, police investigations have revealed that contractor Sohenlal, whom Bhanwari considered her brother, had called the nurse to Bilada. She was asked to sit in Shahabuddin’s Bolero.  She was assaulted in the SUV by both the men and later dumped on the back seat in an unconscious state. The details emerged after officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) scanned Shahbuddin’s Bolero was recovered from Kanodar village near Banaskantha district, Gujarat, a few days ago. The FSL team, comprising Dr Vijendra Singh Shekhawat, Vikram Singh and Bhawani Singh, analysed the vehicle and found blood stains, scalp hair, finger prints and other clues from the car.

Bhanwari case: Bolero used for kidnapping found in Gujarat

The police have found the vehicle in which missing nurse Bhanwari Devi was allegedly kidnapped. The car (a Mahindra Bolero) was found from Kanodar village near here in Banaskantha district, police said. A police team recovered the vehicle (RJ 19 UA 3950) from a garage in Kanodar, a hub for auto repair in the region with about a dozen workshops. Indra Singh Rathod, circle inspector of Pipaar police station, said, “It seems somebody linked to the abduction brought the vehicle for repair on September 9. Garage owner Praveen Mistry told us the accused paid Rs 10,000 in advance for the repair, including a paint job.”

Bhanwari Devi had disappeared from Jodhpur over a month ago, amid reports that she had a CD showing a state minister in a compromising position with her. Sohrabuddin case: Key witness arrested near Udaipur after escape

Sylvester Daniel, a key witness in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, has been nabbed after he escaped from the Gujarat Police's custody near Udaipur in Rajasthan. Sylvester, an accomplice of Sohrabuddin, had fled on Friday night while being brought back from a court appearance in Udaipur by a police party from Vadodara. The incident occurred when the cops were reportedly having a snack. He was lodged in the Vadodara Jail. Sylvester was spotted by a police team in Udaipur's Bhupalpura area. A loaded revolver was recovered from his possession. Sylvester is believed to be holding some crucial leads in connection with the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin on November 26, 2005 on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, and the subsequent murder of his wife Kausar Bi a few days later.
The cops contended that Sylvester escaped while they were getting the jeep, in which they were travelling, repaired. This version was not bought by many including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which suspects collusion of the escorting police party in facilitating Sylvester's escape. The agency had, in fact, sought a report from the Vadodara Police on the matter. In response, the Vadodara Police, firmly in the dock, had written to the CBI admitting to "strong suspicion that the escorting cops helped Sylvester escape." The letter also said that there is a "discrepancy in statements by escorting policemen and the Rajasthan Police's investigation", further adding that the "Rajasthan Police is free to take action against those cops". The Vadodara Police had sent a team for enquiry. After Sohrabuddin's death in 2005, the Gujarat Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) had said that the former was a terrorist who planned to assassinate Chief Minister Narendra Modi. In 2007, the state government admitted in court that Sohrabuddin and Kauser Bi had been wrongly killed. Some of the state's senior-most policemen are in jail, charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, and kidnapping.

Apple Founder Steve Jobs passes away at 56

Apple's  Founder and Former CEO Steve Jobs has passed away today, at the age of 56. Jobs has battled a rare form of pancreatic cancer for the last several years and sadly, he lost that battle today. TV news organizations including CNN, Fox News Channel and CNBC reported late in the 7 p.m. ET hour that Apple confirmed the news. MSNBC reported the news as Lawrence O'Donnell led off his The Last Word show at 8. CBS News broke into network programming at 7:50 ET. Anchor Scott Pelley said the network was breaking in because "An American Edison has died."
Jobs had been battling a long illness and recently stepped down from his position at the company. He was 56 years old. The Apple website posted the following message on their website: Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. News that Steve Jobs had died also prompted statements from a number of people who had known him. Bob Iger, CEO of the Walt Disney Co., issued this statement, stressing how Jobs had not only had a major impact on the consumer electronics industry but on "millions of people" and the culture of the 21st century, which has been heavily influenced by devices that Apple under Jobs' direction had brought to market: "Steve Jobs was a great friend as well as a trusted advisor. His legacy will extend far beyond the products he created or the businesses he built. It will be the millions of people he inspired, the lives he changed, and the culture he defined. Steve was such an 'original,' with a thoroughly creative, imaginative mind that defined an era. Despite all he accomplished, it feels like he was just getting started.

Rest of India win Irani Trophy by 404 runs against Rajasthan

Rest of India on Wednesday lifted the Irani Trophy for the sixth consecutive time, crushing a hapless Rajasthan by 404 runs with a superb bowling performance on the fifth and final day in Jaipur. With ROI having already secured the title after taking the first innings lead, Rajasthan's only aim was to avoid an outright defeat but they failed to do so due to a disciplined bowling show by their opponents. Shikhar Dhawan was the adjudged the man-of-the-match for scoring a century each in both the innings.
On day five, Rajasthan required 590 runs with ten wickets in hand. But the batsmen failed to make any impact whatsoever and were dismissed for 213. After ending with a 5-wicket haul in the first innings, Pragyan Ojha impressed in the second innings too with 4-60 in 22 overs. Aakash Chopra and Vineet Saxena could not add much to the overnight tally. Skipper Hrishikesh Kanitkar also lost his wicket cheaply and then it all went downhill for Rajasthan from there. 24-year-old Madhur Khatri continued to fight for the home side with his gutsy 53-run knock but could not do enough to save the match. Rahul Sharma with figures 2-49 went for a few runs, but youngster Umesh Yadav (2-14) bowled impressively and claimed the important wicket of Rajasthan skipper Kanitkar. Rajasthan didn't look like they could even draw the game after their dismal performance in the first innings which let Rest of India pile on the runs and inch closer to the Cup.
