RU professor arrested for sexually harassing student

Rajasthan University(RU) professor has been arrested for allegedly demanding sexual favours from his student. The victim has alleged that her research guide Dr R K Singhal of the Physics department was harassing her for months. The professor asked the girl to have sexual relations with him if she wanted to complete her PhD. Besides molesting her in February, Singhal and his colleague S N Dolia allegedly even blackmailed the student by morphing her face onto some obscene pictures. "While submitting her PhD thesis, the victim was asked for sexual favours by the teacher. Our preliminary investigation has found that the allegations are true and so we have arrested the Professor," said BL Soni, Commissioner of Police, Jaipur.
The victim approached the police on Monday with her parents. She alleged that Singhal had tried to rape her in the department's laboratory in February, but she managed to escape. He continued to sexually harass her after that. A large group of university students held a demonstration on Wednesday, demanding action against the professor. It was also reported that the victim had earlier submitted two complaints of sexual harassment against the professors to the university authorities, but they brushed the matter under the carpet. Singhal, who was produced before the court of additional CJM on Wednesday, has been sent to custody till July 1.

LPG price dip by Rs 25 in Rajasthan

In a bid to offer some relief to the common man, Rajasthan Government ordered abolition of value added tax (VAT) on the cooking gas, bringing down its price by Rs.25 per LPG Gas cylinder. After the recent hike in fuel prices, cooking gas cost Rs. 398 in the state. With the abolition of VAT, it will cost around Rs. 373 for households and Diesel Price is also reduced by 54 Paise/Lt and now Diesel will cost Rs 42.90 per litre. The decision came after a Congress request to party-ruled states to reduce taxes on petroleum products to give relief to the common man. Earlier, West Bengal, Haryana and Delhi took a similar decision.
CM Ashok Gehlot, who had returned to Jaipur on Tuesday evening from Mumbai, held an unscheduled cabinet meeting at his residence around 9.30 pm. Senior officials of the finance department were present. The meeting continued till late and decided to reduce the taxes, giving in to the immense pressure for the same. In fact, speculations over a probable announcement at the Congress rally in the state capital on Wednesday were making rounds in political circles on Tuesday. The government had earlier tried to justify its taxes, claiming that the state’s VAT on petroleum products is less than those of other states.

Ashok Gehlot stresses on Right to Shelter Act

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot stressed upon enactment of Right To Shelter Act. Speaking at the conference of the Planning Commission and Chief Ministers of western states, for preparing 12th plan approach paper, in Mumbai, Mr Gehlot said when the UPA Government at the Centre was taking initiatives on welfare agenda with implementing laws like Right to Information Act, Right to Education Act and Food Security Law, it was high time that the policy makers thought of the need of bringing Right to Shelter(House) Act. Mr Gehlot said his government had set target to provide houses to needy people under the Affordable Housing Policy for which target of building and providing 5 lakh houses in 5 years was set.
Besides this, the state government was also working to provide houses to Below Poverty Line(BPL) families under Chief Minister’s Rural Housing Scheme for which the government had availed a loan of Rs 3,400 crore from Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO). He said on the lines of Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme, the Centre should also consider for rebate/relaxation in tax for the above scheme.

Rajasthan boy designed Chess for 6 Players

An eight-year-old specially-abled boy in Rajasthan has invented a unique form of chess, which can be played by six persons at a time. Hrideshwar Singh is suffering from muscular weakness, and is confined to a wheelchair. Defying these odds, Hrideshwar took the courage of inventing a new form of chess set which would enable multiple people playing together. Unlike the 64 squares normal chessboard, the one conceptualised and designed by Hrideshwar is circular in shape. "Its specialty is that six players can play at a time. It has different rules than the original one," the eight-year-old said.
Meenakshi Singh, Hrideshwar's mother, said that she is very proud of her son and insists that physical disability has never affected Hrideshwar's intelligence. "I am very proud of him. With this idea in his mind and his mental level proves that he is very intelligent. We want that he should touch great heights mentally and achieve fame," she said. She also noted that pending confirmation from appropriate sources, plans are afoot to patent Hrideshwar's invention and also an endorsement in almanacs like the Guinness Book of World Records and the Limca Book of Records.

JCTSL hikes fares of low-floor buses

Jaipur City Transport Service (JCTSL) limited, too, has decided to increase fares of low-floor buses. Managing director, JCTSL, Malaini Agarwal, said, “The revised fares will be implemented from Tuesday. We have decided to increase the fare after increase in diesel prices.” She added, “It was essential to increase fare for low-floor buses to meet the operational expenses. However, the fare increased is minimum so that it does not affect people.” Earlier, the minimum fare for lowfloor buses for 0 to 4 kilometres was Rs 5 which has now increased to Rs 6. An official said, “The minimum fare has been increased by one rupee, whereas, Rs 2 has been increased in two categories and the maximum increase is Rs 3.”
Monthly passes for JCTSL lowfloor buses has also been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 600. The daily pass which was for Rs 30 has been increased to Rs 40. The increased fare has affected the common man. Vinesh Gujjar, who is a guard and earns Rs 2,700 a month, says, “Increasing Rs 100 on monthly pass will certainly affect me. The cheapest mode of transportation is getting expensive day by day due to irrational policies of the government.” The JCTSL has also increased Rs 50 for sub-urban passes. Agarwal said, “The a/c buses were recently launched in the city and it would be a burden on passengers if the fare will be increased.” However, sources in the department said the a/c low-floor buses are unable to attract commuters in the city, so even if authorities increase its fare, people won’t mind.

Mr Gehlot said during a high-level meeting held here earlier in the day, the Minister has assured due help from the Centre for the implementation of the project. Besides this, the meeting also discussed vital issues pertaining to different sanctuaries. Monsoon arrives in Rajasthan

South-West monsoon on Thursday hit Rajasthan with several parts of the state receiving rainfall even as hot and humid conditions continue to make life unpleasant for people in the national capital. The monsoon hit several parts of Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota and Udaipur divisions in Rajasthan. Kota received the maximum rainfall of 57 mm, while Jaipur recorded 48 mm, Vanasthali 35 mm, Chittorgarh 20 mm, Dabok 14 mm and Ajmer 1 mm rainfall. However, there was no respite from sultry conditions for Delhiites as the brief intermittent monsoon showers the city witnessed last week failed to make a comeback. The maximum temperature hovered around 38.7 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature was at 29.8 deg C. The humidity ranged between 76 per cent and 52 per cent, higher than yesterday's 74 per cent and 50 per cent, making Delhiites wilt. Meanwhile, some isolated places in Punjab and Haryana received showers, while there was drizzling in Chandigarh.
The MeT department forecast southwest monsoon to hit Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh by July 1. Cloudy conditions prevailed in most parts of Himachal Pradesh, causing a fall of two to three degree in the day temperature. Some areas also received moderate downpours. Mandi, Kangra and Hamirpur areas received downpours with Sujanpur Tira recording highest 66 mm rains, followed by Palampur 29.4 mm, Baijnath 26 mm and Mandi 23.7 mm. Paonta Sahib at maximum 39 deg C was the hottest place in the state, followed by Bhuntar at 35.3 deg C. The state capital Shimla remained engulfed in fog and received intermittent showers. It recorded a high of 23.4 deg C, a fall of two points from yesterday.

India win first Test against West Indies

India got a convincing victory in the first Test after West Indies were all out for 262 on day four of the first cricket test at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. Needing a further 195 runs to win with seven wickets in hand, the West Indies lost six wickets for an addition of 95 runs in the morning session. Praveen Kumar (3/41) struck a couple of decisive blows during his morning spell removing Darren Bravo (41, 89 balls, 7x4) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (30, 73 balls, 4x4) in quick succession after their 68- run stand for the fourth wicket stand. From 148 for three, the hosts were suddenly struggling at 149 for five. With the track deteriorating with some deliveries jumping from the good length spot while a few keeping very low, it was a struggle for survival for the West Indian batsmen. None of the lower-middle order batsmen save Ravi Rampaul (34, 32 balls, 6x4, 1x6) showed stomach for fight.
The first half an hour didn't have any indication of what was to follow as Praveen got into the act. Bravo who had looked confident shuffled across the stumps as Praveen angled one into him that sent his leg-stump for a toss. Chanderpaul was one man who could have been depended for his doggedness but he too perished when a Praveen delivery stopped and came onto him as he committed onto a cover drive. All he could do was to lob a simple catch to Suresh Raina as it was virtually all over for the Caribbeans.

The CBI said that they had not registered any formal complaint but hoped to nab the touts and corrupt officials.
Tatkal tickets cannot be booked online from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. every day. This forces people to procure these tickets from the normal ticket counters where touts are allegedly active. The Tatkal scheme was introduced by Indian Railways to meet the urgent travel requirement of passengers.

The Parliamentary Public Accounts Committe (PAC) Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi again trained his guns against Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and sought his dismissal for his role in changes in terms and conditions in Krishna Godwari gas field project that led to hike in LPG price. Talking to reporters at the BJP state ehadquarters here today Dr Joshi said that the project cost estimates were allowed to be changed to the conerned stake holders from Rs 12,000 crore to Rs 45,000 crore within two years, the gas price for the project was also allowed to Rs 4.20 per BTU, almost three times as compared to price fixed by the ONGC.
The ONGC used to purchase LPG at Rs 1.20 per BTU and sale at Rs 1.80 per BTU,however, later the ONGC sale price was also levelled up at Rs 4.20 BTU that led to increase of price of LPG for the consumer. Moreover, special CAG audit of the project project and leakage of the CAG report did also make the matter complicated. This all happened when Mr Chidambaram was the Finance Minister, Mr Joshi said adding that irregularities/suspicious actions were taken KG basin and 2-G Spectrum scam was also committed when Mr Chidambaram was the Finance Minister. This was second succssive day when Mr Joshi targeted the Union Home Minister. National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet in court on the Samjhauta Express bomb blast on February 18, 2007, which killed 68 people, mostly Pak nationals, charging Swami Aseemanand and four others, including Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak Sunil Joshi (now dead), for the deed. This is the first time any member of the RSS has been formally charged for terrorism activity. The investigators said Aseemanand began propagating a “bomb for bomb theory to give vent to his feelings” after the terrorism attacks at the Akshardham temple in Gujarat, Raghunath Temple in Jammu and Sankat Mochan Temple at Varanasi. He also discussed his plans with RSS members Sunil Joshi, Sandeep Dange, Lokesh Sharma and Ramchandra Kalasangra.
The NIA suspects that apart from these five accused, more people were involved. Assemanand and Sharma are in Ambala jail, while a reward of Rs 10 lakh has been announced for information leading to an arrest of Dange and Kalasangra, who are absconding. Assemanand is suspected to have played a major role not just in Samjhauta blast but also the blast case, Hyderabad's Mecca Masjid blast and the Malegaon blast cases. NIA is investigating the role of Pragya Thakur, accused in the Malegaon case, for involvement in the Samjhauta attack, too. In its charge sheet before a local court in Panchkula, Haryana, NIA said the Samjhauta Express, a bi-weekly train between India and Pakistan, was chosen because most of the passengers were Pakistanis. “Aseemanand not only provided financial and logistical support to the terror group which executed the blast but also played a vital role in instigating and motivating people to carry out this terrorist act. Sandeep Dange, Ramchandra Kalasangra and Lokesh Sharma, under the leadership of Sunil Joshi, procured raw materials for the improvised explosive device and also planted the bomb in the train,” NIA told the court.

Rajasthan TET Exam on 31st July

Rajasthan Teachers Eligibility Test (TET-2011) will be held on July 31 by Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE). The decision was taken after the Rajasthan High Court vacated stay over holding the TET-2011 and asked the RBSE to declare new dates for the test. The court while disposing of petitions filed by several students said on Monday that Bachelor of Education (BEd) graduates with science, arts and commerce background would be eligible for the test. Earlier, the Rajasthan High court had put on hold the TET-2011 on the petition filed by students. "We have decided to conduct TET-2011 on July 31. The selection process for the teachers will start soon," said Subhash Garg, chairman, Board of Secondary Education Rajasthan. Those who have attained BEd degree from Jammu and Kashmir and from other states would also be eligible for the TET. The court said that candidates from general category were required to pass qualifying exams with 45 per cent and those from STs, SCs and OBCs with 40 per cent marks. However, there would be no minimum marks compulsion for those who had passed qualifying examinations before 2007. Earlier, the government had announced to recruit as many as 50,000 teachers to ensure effective implementation of RTE in the state. The process seems to have initiated with the announcement of examination dates by RBSE.

Child labourers freed from units in Jaipur

Police liberated around 100 children employed as child labourers in different units in the state capital of Jaipur, Police Commissioner BL Soni said. These children brought from different places in Bihar were engaged in works in six embroidery factories in areas under the Sadar police station here, Mr Soni said. The freed children--many of them aging 8 to 10 years or so--were later shifted to the Bal Griha shelter home being run here by Jaipur Municipal Corporation, he said. The owners of the six units--who also hail from Bihar--were arrested, the Commissioner added.

Govt, civil members to meet today on Lokpal Bill

Government and civil society, the two sides will meet on Monday in a last ditch attempt to resolve contentious issues and hammer out a consensus on the Lokpal Bill. On the eve of the meeting of the Lokpal joint drafting committee - the eighth since April 16, Senior ministers held discussions for nearly three hours on Sunday evening to finetune the Government's strategy. The deliberations, chaired by Finance Minister and panel chairman Pranab Mukherjee, were attended by Union ministers Kapil Sibal, Salman Khurshid and Veerappa Moily - all members of the committee. Minister of State in PMO V Narayanaswamy also took part in the parleys. However, another member of the committee Home Minister P Chidambaram was not present as he was out of town. None of the ministers spoke to media after the meeting which lasted two hours and 45 minutes.
Monday's deliberations could be the last meeting of the joint committee and another round will be held on Tuesday if the discussions for an anti-corruption watchdog are not concluded on Monday. Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hegde, a member of the drafting committee, denied any split in the Anna Hazare camp and said he will attend the panel's meeting and backed the social activist's planned fast from August 16 after opposing it. After his comments on Hazare's fast and inability to take part in the meeting in Delhi fuelled speculation of differences among civil society representatives, Hegde said he will be present on June 21 to show there is 'no rift'. While the government has virtually ruled out bringing the post of the Prime Minister under the ambit of the anti-corruption watchdog, Congress core group has favoured convening an all-party meeting on the issue of inclusion of the PM. The Hazare camp is pressing for bringing the Prime Minister under Lokpal's purview. HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, a member of the Joint Drafting Committee, said the view within the government is that Prime Minister should not be included within the ambit of Lokpal. He, however, said once the PM demits office, he should not be "exonerated" from prosecution. Santosh Hegde however feels keeping the Prime Minister out of Lokpal till he demits office will not serve the purpose of having an effective investigation because there will not be any trail of any misconduct.

DU cut-off, No Place for State Board Toppers

Delhi University(DU) released its first cut-off list for admission which seems to be not applicable for Rajasthan, UP, Bihar, Haryana, MP, Maharashtra and most of state board students except state board of some south Indian states when students gets good marks like CBSE and other central board examination. Cut-off touching a record 100 per cent in Delhi University's premier Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), toppers from the state seem to have a bleak chance in securing seats in most colleges of their choice. Out of total 2,097 students, who scored above 95 percent marks across the country, 818 belong to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Delhi region while only 97 fall under the Ajmer region including states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, as per CBSE figures while hardly any State Board students have such marks including Merit List holders from state.
It may be possible that toppers hailing from Rajasthan may face a tough fight for admissions in top Delhi University colleges," said CK Punnoose, vice-principal, St. Xavier's School. He said scoring marks above 90 per cent requires hard work and rising cut-offs lead to tough competition. According to the CBSE figures, this year almost 21,665 students had scored above 90 per cent marks, higher than total of 16,563 across 8 regions across the country.
HRD minister Kapil Sibal has criticised the Shri Ram College of Commerce , or SRCC, for setting its cutoff for admission to the B Com (H) course at 100%. Describing it as "unfortunate" and "irrational" , Sibal has asked Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh to step in and remedy the situation. Sibal's concern has been echoed by political parties too. The Congress has expressed concern over the new cutoff for humanities and science students applying for commerce courses. RBSE Merit holders are also know thinking why i appeared from RBSE, i should have appeared for CBSE so that i could have got college of my choice. Now comes the real question, who will take measure to stop such repeating incidents where state board toppers are hardly getting chance for Sri Ram College of Commerce and other top colleges in delhi University..RBSE, State Govt, students, parents or Delhi University(DU).

IIT Rajasthan will get much debated Sakshat Tablet by late June, priced at Rs. 2,200. It was in the news everywhere last year. The Government of India's ambitious project to manufacture ultra low cost tablet devices for the students, the $35 Sakshat Tablets seem to be ready to see the daylights.
