59.62% voting in Rajasthan on 5 Lok sabha Seats

Rajasthan recorded 59.62 % voting on 5 seats of Lok Sabha Election 2014 with minor violence incident. Four photojournalists and a driver were injured and their vehicle was damaged in an attack by villagers, while they were going to cover a clash which broke out when a group of 150 people forcibly tried to enter a polling booth in Satha village in Dausa district of Rajasthan. Forty-five thousands security personnel were on duty in the most sensitive 5 LS seats in the state. Eighty one contestants, including two Union Ministers; Namonarayan Meena (MoS finance) from Dausa, Jitendra Singh (MoS-sports) from Alwar, and former cricketer Mohammed Azaharruddin from Tonk-Swaimadhopur are in the fray. Polling on Rajasthan's 20 seats was held on 17th April with highest ever polling turnout of 63.25%. Now results for all 25 seats will be announced on 16th May 2014, Morning.

Record 63.25% Polling, peaceful voting on 20 Seats of Rajasthan

Rajasthan recorded its highest ever polling turnout of 63.25% as compared to 48.09 per cent in the Lok sabha Election 2009. Today's turnout is 16 per cent more than the turnout in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections High turnout was witnessed in 121 constituencies which went to polls across 12 states in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections on Thursday in which the political fate of leaders like CP Joshi, Sachin Pilot, Nandan Nilekani, Maneka Gandhi, M Veerappa Moily and Jaswant Singh is at stake.

Campaigning ends on 20 Seats of Rajasthan, Polling on 17th April, tomorrow. Rajasthan has total 25 seats in Lok sabha Election on 17th April, 2014 which includes 20 Seats (Ganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Jaipur Rural, Jaipur, Ajmer, Nagaur, Pali, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalore, Udaipur, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Bhilwara, Kota, Jhalawar-Baran) while on Phase-6 on 24th April 2014 5 Seats( Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur, Dausa, Tonk-Sawai Madhopur) will cast their vote. 

Top leaders of political parties made their last ditch effort to woo the voters as the deadline to wind up the campaign ended at 5 PM. Campaigning for 77 Odisha Assembly seats also ended Tuesday evening and voting will be held on 17th April along with the Lok Sabha polls. This phase of polling will witness votes being cast for the maximum number of seats in the ongoing general elections. While, seven seats of Bihar is going to polls on Thursday, 3 constituencies of Chhattisgarh will exercise their franchise. Whole Karnataka state will cast their votes on this day. 20 seats of Rajasthan, 19 of Maharashtra, 11 each of Uttar Pradesh and Odisha, 10 of Madhya Pradesh, six of Jharkhand, four of West Bengal will also witness polling on this day. Udhampur constituency of Jammu and Kashmir and Manipur's lone parliamentary constituency will also exercise their franchise on 17th April.

123rd birth anniversary of B.R Ambedkar today

Today is the 123rd birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, observed as Ambedkar Jayanti every year in India. On this day homage is paid to Babasaheb’s statue at the Parliament by the President, Prime Minister and other dignitaries. Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891 to the Ramji Maloji Sakpal and Bhimabai in a poor Mahar family in Mhow, Central Provinces, British India (Madhya Pradesh). He died on December, 6 in 1956 at the age of 65. 

He was popular among the people by the name ‘Babasaheb’ because of his great contribution towards the Indian society. He served throughout his life as a jurist, philosopher, social activist, politician, historian, anthropologist and economist as well as revivalist for the Buddhism in India. He became the first law minister of the Independent India and drafted the Constitution of India. He struggled throughout his life for eradicating the casteism and social discrimination in India. He converted to Buddhism to inspire the lower group people for which he was addressed as a Bodhisattva by the Indian Buddhists.

25 % voter turnout in Delhi till 11 AM

Around 25 per cent voting was registered till 11 am on Thursday for the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in the national capital where BJP, Congress and newbie AAP are engaged in a three-cornered electoral battle. Moderate to brisk polling was on Thursday recorded in the first hours of polling for 91 Lok Sabha seats spread across 11 states 3 Union Territories, including the national capital. These include all constituencies in Kerala, Haryana and Delhi and six Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, four in Jharkhand, nine in Madhya Pradesh, ten each in Maharashtra, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh and one each in Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh and Lakshadweep. The Congress had won all seven seats in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls. The prominent contenders in the fray include Union Ministers Kapil Sibal and Krishna Tirath, Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan, Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken, journalist-turned-politician Ashutosh, Sandeep Dikshit, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, Rajmohan Gandhi, and BJP's Meenakshi Lekhi.

Union Minister Kapil Sibal, Delhi BJP Chief Harsh Vardhan, Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken, Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev were also among the early voters. Sonia, accompanied by Maken and Delhi Congress Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely, came to the polling station at Nirman Bhavan in Central Delhi at around 9:30 AM and went straight inside the booth to vote as there was no queue. She is a voter in the New Delhi constituency from where Maken is contesting to retain the seat for the third consecutive term.

India storms into ICC World Cup T20 final today with a win of 6 wickets by South Africa. Chasing a competitive target of 173, reigning ODI world champion India completed the task with five balls to spare to reach their second World T20 final.  The reigning ODI world champion will lock horns with Sri Lanka in the title clash on Sunday. Kohli produced his best T20 international knock when it mattered the most, scoring his runs in just 44 balls and with the help of five fours and two sixes.
