DMRC to Construct Jaipur Metro phase II

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be constructing the phase II of Jaipur Metro from Chandpole to Badi Chaupar. The decision was taken at the Metro project review meeting on Friday at Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) headquarters. Shanti Dhariwal, urban development and housing (UDH) minister, told the media, "As DMRC is already constructing metro phase I (Mansarovar to Chandpole), we have decided to give the second phase of construction to them. The proposal will be forwarded to the state cabinet for approval." The DMRC will do the underground construction connecting the Metro from Chandpole to Badi Chaupar. The decision to develop parking lots near Metro sites on Private Public Partnership (PPP) model was also taken at the meeting.
An official said, "The PPP mode is a better option as the JMRC does not have capital to develop the parking lot. Also, the work on PPP mode can be done faster as till date DMRC has not started the work on parking." The officials also informed the minster that the process of land acquisition to develop parking near the station has started. Dhariwal, on his visit to Metro stations on Thursday, directed officials to acquire more land for parking near stations. The meeting also discussed funds requirement from the Centre. Gold Sukh scam, directors arrested

Police arrested two Directors of a multi-level marketing company which allegedly duped people in several parts of the country of around Rs 300 crore, following protests by investors. Gold Sukh Directors Jagdish Sharma and Rameshwar Prasad have been arrested after being questioned, Additional Police Commissioner Karan Sharma said. The company, which had four directors, had a total of 27 offices throughout the country including eight in Rajasthan. It promised investors high returns on their deposit, which they claimed was used to purchase gold, he said. Hundreds of agitated people gathered outside the Gold Sukh company's closed office in civil lines area . The investors had reached the company's office yesterday to collect their promised payment. However, they learnt that they had been deceived by the company.
Two FIRs were registered with Vidhayakpuri police station against the company, police said, adding the complainants alleged that they had invested in the company on promise of handsome profit but were duped by the firm. The directors of the company shut down their office and closed the company's web site yesterday after protests. Efforts are on to trace the other directors of the company. With the number of victims approaching the police swelling alarmingly, officials said that the police on Thursday arrested seven management employees of the firm after arresting the two directors a day earlier. Searches were carried out at the firm's office where a safe was opened. The police have seized some jewellery from there. "We have started formalities to get the passport of the absconding directors impounded and a red-corner notice issued by the Interpol," said commissioner of police BL Soni.

Cabinet clears 51% FDI in multi-brand retail

Pushing a major reform, the government on Thursday allowed 51 per cent foreign investment in the multi-brand retail, paving way for global chains like WalMart, Carrefour and Tesco to open mega stores in 53 major cities.  The decision, a game-changer for the estimated USD 590 billion (Rs 29.50 lakh crore) retail market, is taken at the meeting of the Cabinet presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Cabinet also decided to remove the 51 per cent cap on FDI in single brand format under which companies in food, lifestyle and sports business run stores. Owners of brands like Adidas, Gucci, Hermes, LVMH and Costa Coffee can have full ownership of business in India. In the wake of apprehensions among some political parties, including UPA ally Trinamool Congress over impact of the decision on farmers and kirana shops, tough riders have been imposed on the entry of multi-national companies. They should bring in minimum investment of USD 100 million, of which half should be in the back-end infrastructure like cold chains, processing and packaging.
The retailers will have to source at least 30 per cent of manufactured and processed products from small-scale units. Battling near double digit inflation, government has been trying to build a consensus on the issue for the last 17 months, contending the entry of MNCs in retail would contain inflation. Considering space constraint in big cities, stores can come up within 10 km of 53 cities with one million populations. Besides, agri produce like fruits, vegetables, grains, pulses, poultry, fishery and meat products will have to be sold without branding. Also, government and its agencies will have the first right on procurement. as much as 95 per cent India's retail market is driven by mom and pop (kirana) stores. The organised trade with players like Future group, Reliance and the Tatas have captured only a small cake in the big retail market. Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma is likely to make a statement on Friday in the Parliament.

Facebook comments spark communal tension in Rajasthan

Fresh communal violence broke out in Rajasthan's Dungarpur town on Monday as members of a community pelted stones at shops and vehicles protesting against objectionable comments against a religion on social-networking site Facebook and clashed with police. Prohibitory orders were clamped in Dungarpur town, about 130 kms from here, after the violence left six persons, including in-charge of police station Goverdhan Lal, injured. The violent protest was a sequel to last night's tension in Udaipur over the comments on Facebook with members of the community holding demonstration in Mukherjee Chowk area near Masjid Chudigaran and burning tyres. In Dungarpur, the community members this morning took out a silent rally which turned violent when a youth driving a motorcycle entered the crowd.
Police said an unidentified person had prepared a fake account and uploaded the picture, accompanied by an unpleasant comment. The police imposed prohibitory orders in Dungarpur and Udaipur till Wednesday. In the morning, a large crowd gathered outside the Dungarpur district collectorate and submitted a memorandum seeking action against the person who had uploaded the material. “The agitators were returning when they clashed with a tribal youngster. The clash was followed by a rampage in which shops and vehicles were damaged,” an eyewitness said. The police resorted to baton charge. Dungarpur SP Don K Jose said 13 people had been arrested.

India wins Kabaddi world cup 2011

India defeated Canada 59-25 in the World Kabaddi Cup 2011 finals to lift the cup in men’s Kabaddi at Guru Nanak Stadium here Sunday night. In Women’s finals, India beat UK with the difference of 44-17. Pakistan bagged the 3rd place. It beat Italy with the difference of 60-22. The visitors failed to tackle the dominant attacks of the Indian women. In the men’s final, at the half time, India was leading by 28-13. Canadians had lost a few players earlier to doping. Canadians, who had defeated Pakistan in the semi-finals in the tournament earlier, struggled to maintain momentum in the second half as Indian raiders took points at will.
Despite the match played under flood lights and continuing close to midnight, the stadium remained packed with people who had come to watch the contest. The tournament had been marred by doping controversy which had continued unabated in the Punjab Government-organised cup, with players from United States, Canada, India and other nations falling in the dope trap. National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) had even demanded adequate security for its officials conducting dope tests to avoid any untoward incident. Australia and USA teams were disqualified as most of their players were found dope positive by NADA. With the win Sunday night, Indians pursed Rs.2 crore while the runner-up pocketed Rs. 1 crore.

Gehlot's chopper makes emergency landing, CM safe

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had narrow escape when one of the wings of his helicopter got damaged partially mid-air and the pilots were forced to make emergency landing near Pilani town in Jhunjhunu district. An official spokesman told UNI here that the Chief Minister's Agusta Chopper took off from the Sanganer airport here around 1030 hrs for Nyangli in Churu district where Mr Gehlot was scheduled to attend a programme. However, it was flying over Pilani around 1115 hrs on 20th Nov. when one of the wings got partially damaged.
Pilots Capt UK Sharma and Capt Rakesh Sharma instantly made an emergency safe landing in a place, about 12 Kms from Pilani. "The Chief Minister is safe and proceeded for Nyangli by road in a private vehicle", the spokesman said. Prasing the pilots for their presence of mind and swift action, Mr Gehlot said, "They have acted in a wise manner". The Chief Minister had faced a similar situation in 1999-2000 during his previous regime, when he was going to attend the funeral of a Kargil martyr. His chopper had made an emergency landing in the same location.

CBI raids offices of Airtel, Vodafone ‎in 2G Scam

CBI carried out searches at the Vodafone office in Mumbai and Airtel office in Gurgaon after registering a case against ex-Telecom Secy Shyamal Ghosh and the two telecom service providers for alleged irregularities in spectrum allocation during tenure of Pramod Mahajan as Telecom Min. Besides Ghosh, the case was registered against former director of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited J R Gupta, the agency said on Saturday. Immediately after registering the case, CBI teams conducted searches at the official premises of Vodafone in Mumbai, Airtel in Gurgaon and residences of Ghosh and Gupta, it said. Responding to the raids, Bharti Airtel said it has always maintained the highest standard of corporate governance and regulatory compliance. "We would like to categorically state that all the spectrum alloted to us from time to time has been strictly as per the stated government policy," a Bharti Airtel spokesperson said. "We are providing all details and correspondence to the authorities and shall provide complete support as needed in the matter," the spokesperson said.
When approached, Vodafone said they would comment on the developments later. The CBI had registered a Preliminary Enquiry to look into the allocation of spectrum under Mahajan to certain companies beyond the prescribed limit. The CBI alleged in its FIR that Department of Telecom had increased the base spectrum for telecom companies from 4.4 MhZ to 6.2 MhZ during Mahajan's tenure from 2001 to 2003 and also allocated extra spectrum on subscriber-based criteria. The agency has already filed a case with regard to alleged conspiracy in the Aircel-Maxis deal during the tenure of the then Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran. Vodafone said all their documents related to the spectrum allocation were in compliance with the governing laws and regulations and it was cooperating with the agency officials. "There was a visit by CBI officials this morning at our office in Mumbai and Delhi seeking information related to the spectrum allocation to operators during 2001-02. All our documents are in complete compliance with the governing laws and regulations," a company spokesperson said in a statement. "Vodafone India is completely co-operating with the officials and will provide them all the required details as part of their checks," the spokesperson said.

Rajasthan Cabinet Resuffle, Five Ministers OUT Six IN

A day after all Rajasthan ministers resigned ahead of a cabinet reshuffle, six new ministers took oath of office at a ceremony at Raj Bhawan here Wednesday. Governor Shivraj Patil administered oath to the new ministers and to Ashok Bairwa, who has been promoted as cabinet minister. Earlier, he was a junior minister in the Ashok Gehlot ministry. In the new cabinet, Virendra Beniwal, Ameen Khan, Dayaram Parmar, Manju Meghwal, Naseem Akhtar and Vinod Choudhary have been inducted as state ministers while five former ministers -- Bhanwar Lal Meghwal, Pramod Jain ‘Bhaya’, Ramlal Jaat, Bharosi Lal Jaatav and Golma Devi -- have been removed.
“Majority of the ministers who were excluded were embroiled in various controversies,” a Congress party functionary told IANS. Issues like the Gopalgarh violence which claimed lives of 10 Muslims, nurse Bhanwari Devi's kidnapping case, corruption and hastening the post-mortem of a woman had put some ministers of the Gehlot cabinet in trouble and led to speculations about a reshuffle. “The complete refurbishment of the cabinet aims at easing the state government out of these controversies,” said a political analyst.

All Rajasthan cabinet ministers resign

The entire Rajasthan state Cabinet has resignation in the wake of a cabinet reshuffle. "All the ministers have put in their papers for the Cabinet reshuffle," Dhariwal said. He added that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will visit New Delhi on Tuesday evening to meet the Congress high command. The urgency for the meet came at a time when a recently suspended minister Mahipal Maderna faces the threat of being arrested in connection with a sleaze CD.
Maderna is accused of having a hand in the kidnapping and possible murder of the dalit nurse Bhanwari Devi, who went missing on September 1. Recently, Rajasthan minister of state for Environment and Forests Ramlal Jat resigned after local media reports targeted him over a mysterious death of Paras Devi, the wife of the Bhilwara Dairy chairman. Mahipal Maderna hospitalised after chest pain

Mahipal Maderna, who was sacked as Rajasthan minister and suspended from the Congress' primary membership over alleged involvement in the case of a missing nurse, has been hospitalised here after he complained of chest pain, sources said Sunday. "Maderna has been admitted to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Mathura Das Mathur Hospital. He is under observation," said a doctor at the hospital. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Saturday quizzed his wife Lila and Congress legislator from Luni constituency Malkhan Singh over their alleged involvement in the case of missing nurse Bhanwari Devi.
Supporters of ex-Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna roughed up scribes outside the Mathuradas Mathur Hospital in Jodhpur where Maderna has been admitted. Reportedly, cops present at the spot chose to remain tight-lipped about the incident. Reports suggest that 50-odd mediaperson who had gathered outside the hospital were attacked by Maderna supporters and some scribes suffered injuries. Cameras and microphones were snatched from media personnel and their OB vans too were damaged. The police personnel present said action would be taken once a formal FIR was lodged in the incidence.

Rajashtan BJP leaders too in sleaze CD: Digvijaya Singh

Congress general-secretary Digvijaya Singh on Saturday claimed to know about the involvement of Rajasthan BJP leaders in sex scandals. Referring to the recently-surfaced sex clip that showed sacked state minister and Congress leader Mahipal Maderna with missing midwife-nurse Bhanwari Devi, Singh said: "I am not in charge of Rajasthan, but I have come to know there are CDs involving BJP leaders also." Singh made the sensational claim at a press conference in Jaipur.
"The minister ( Mahipal Maderna) has already resigned and the CBI is investigating the case, let it be over," Singh said when asked what action the Congress High Command was planning to take against those allegedly involved in the case. When asked about the CDs he was talking about, he said "I came to know about it last night here and these are of local leaders belonging to Jodhpur or nearby areas," he said. On Gopalgarh violence, the Congress General Secretary Singh said it was an unfortunate incident and expressed satisfaction over actions taken by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Rajasthan minister Ramlal Jat resigns

The Congress government in Rajasthan seems to be passing through turbulence as, after the sacking of Mahipal Maderna from the cabinet over the case of a missing nurse, another minister in Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's team quit Saturday over allegations related to a woman's death. Ramlal Jat, state minister for forest and environment, mines, said: "I have tendered my resignation to Chief Minister Gehlot, and have requested the CM to accept it." Jat recently was involved in a controversy over alleged hastening the post-mortem of a woman who died under mysterious circumstances in Bhilwara district.
Paras Devi, 34, was the wife of Bhilwara Dairy's president Ratan Lal Choudhary, a close aide of Jat. The Congress legislator from Mandal constituency of Bhilwara district quit following a news report levelling charges against him. Refuting the charges levelled in the newspaper, Jat said that these were "completely baseless" and aimed at damaging his reputation. "I am ready for any kind of investigation by any investigating agency," he said. The post-mortem of the woman was conducted allegedly in the presence of Jat around 2 a.m. Sep 28 in Bhilwara after she died under mysterious circumstances. The post-mortem report stated the cause of death as peripheral circulatory failure, hinting at the possibility of poisoning, a police official said on condition of anonymity. The state government in the last week of September ordered an inquiry into the incident. On the other hand, Maderna was sacked from the cabinet by Gehlot Oct 16 over allegations that he had a role in disappearance of nurse Bhanwari Devi from Jodhpur's Bilara area Sep 1. It was alleged that the nurse had started blackmailing Maderna, the legislator from Osian, on the basis of a CD showing both of them in a compromising position. The case is being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Maderna's questioning by the CBI is likely to continue Monday.

Congress suspends Maipal Maderna from party

Former Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna was Saturday suspended from the primary membership of the ruling Congress. He lost his job over alleged involvement in the case of missing nurse Bhanwari Devi. In a press statement, state Congress president Chandrabhan said: "Looking at the seriousness of the issue in the context of CD we have suspended Maderna from the primary membership of the party". Bhanwari Devi had gone missing from Jodhpur's Bilara area Sep 1. Maderna was sacked from the cabinet by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Oct 16 over allegations that he had a role in her disappearance. It was alleged that the nurse had started blackmailing Maderna on the basis of a CD showing both of them in a compromising position.

Now, Tatkal Train ticket Only 24 hrs in advance

Indian Railways reduced the advanced reservation period from 48 hours to 24 hours on Friday to curb its misuse by touts at the Tatkal ticket booking counters. The railways also said that no refund will be made on confirmed tickets. Among the other steps taken by the railways to control the activities of touts include stopping issuance of duplicate Tatkal ticket, giving Tatkal ticket only to people carrying identity proof, restricting booking of tickets between 8 am to 10 am and ultimately linking the facility with Aadhaar, the unique identification number being provided to the citizens by the government. "Tatkal is a facility for emergency travel...It is meant for unplanned travel. But we have reports touts are misusing it by blocking berths," Railways Minister Dinesh Trivedi told reporters. Railway Board chairman Vinay Mittal said, "The steps will come in force in around a week's time." Citing reasons for the steps, Mittal said these have been taken with a view to prevent misuse of Tatkal scheme by agents/unscrupulous elements during opening hours of the reservation counters.
The move to stop refund on confirmed Tatkal tickets has been taken as advance reservation period is very short, around a day, said officials. Further they said Tatkal tickets shall be sold only on production of one of the eight prescribed cards as proof of identity. During the journey, the passenger has to produce original proof of identity indicated on the ticket. In future, when Aadhaar is operational, the issuance of Tatkal tickets will be linked to it. The officials said the restriction between 8 am to 10 am shall be enforced through frequent inspection at the counters. Besides, there shall be only four passengers per PNR for Tatkal tickets. The web services agents of IRCTC will be permitted to book only one Tatkal ticket per train per day on the internet. Cameras will be installed at the ticket counters for maintaining stricter surveillance.

Ranji Trophy: Mumbai fightback against Rajasthan

Rajasthan’s starless batting line-up continued to pile on the misery for Mumbai, their bottom six contributing 206 runs in a mammoth total of 530, as the Ranji Trophy champions went from strength to strength at the Brabourne Stadium. In reply, Mumbai, who recovered from a horrible start, with the help of century from Rohit Sharma(100) and unbeaten 110* from Nayar brings mumbai back in game.
Rohit sharma was dropped twice, once by Ashok Menaria in the covers and then by Hrishikesh Kanitkar at first slip, leaving pacer Deepak Chahar frustrated. Sharma, who cheated fate while on 2 and 10, rubbed the proverbial salt into Chahar’s wounds by racing from 26 to 42, courtesy four boundaries in one over. All this happened after Pankaj Singh (2/40) sent back openers Kaustubh Pawar (0) and Wasim Jaffer (17; 23 balls, 4x4) inside the first half hour. Mumbai on days 3 with 291/3 (56.0 overs), trail by 239 runs with 7 wickets remaining in the 1st innings will lead test match to draw.

Govt hikes PPF interest rate to 8.6%

Government has increased interest rates on deposit schemes offered by post offices, like savings account, Monthly Income Scheme and Public Provident Fund. While post office savings accounts (POSA) will fetch 4 percent interest, up from 3.5 percent, the Monthly Income Scheme (MIS) and the Public Provident Fund (PPF) will earn an interest of 8.2 percent and 8.6 percent respectively, a government release said. Savings account rates paid by banks vary from 4 to 6 per cent after Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Duvvuri Subba Rao announced complete deregulation of savings banks deposit rates in the recent mid-year review of money policy. On funds parked in five-year senior citizens savings scheme, there is no change in interest rate of 9 per cent. A finance ministry notification said the government also raised the cap on annual Public Provident Fund (PPF) investments to Rs 1,00,000 from the present Rs 70,000 and discontinued the small savings instrument Kisan Vikas Patra.
These measures are in sync with the recommendations of former RBI deputy governor Shayamala Gopinath committee that submitted its report to finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on June 7 this year. Investments in PPF will now carry interest rate of 8.6 per cent, instead of 8 per cent and the interest rates on various postal savings schemes have been raised. The new interest rates would range from 7.7 per cent to 8.6 per cent, instead of the present 6.25 per cent to 8 per cent beginning December 1 this year. Minimum share of states in net small-savings collections in a year for investment in state government securities have been reduced to 50 per cent from 80 per cent. Proceeds from another 50 per cent of small savings deposits would be invested in central government securities or lent to other needy states. A new National Savings Certificate (NSC) would be launched with a 10-year maturity with an annual interest rate of 8.7 per cent. The usual monthly income scheme and national savings certificate, which presently carry a six-year maturity, would hereafter have five-year maturity. The rate on these two schemes have been raised 8.2 and 8.4 per cent, respectively from the present 8 per cent in each of the schemes or infrastructure bonds.

Miss Venezuela Ivian Sarcos wins Miss World 2011 crown

Miss Venezuela, Ivian Sarcos, was crowned the 61st Miss World with Miss Philippines, Gwendoline Ruais as the 1st runner up and Miss Puerto Rico, Amanda Perez, the 2nd runner up. Miss Venezuela looked gorgeous in a large pink feathery gown open in the front as she was being crowned by reigning Miss World, Alexandria Mills of USA. A human resources graduate from Venezuela, whose ambition is to work with children, was crowned Miss World 2011 at a glittering beauty pageant in London on Sunday. Last year's Miss World, Alexandria Mills of the United States, took off her sparkling crown and placed it on her successor's head as Sarcos sat in a shimmering silver throne.
Some 113 beauty queens from Albania to Zimbabwe took their place on the stage at the Earls Court Two auditorium in west London, with the show being broadcast live to an estimated audience of more than one billion viewers in 150 countries. Around 50 feminists rallied outside, waving placards reading "Objectification won't achieve world peace", "Being a woman is not a competition" and "Sexism is pretty ugly". A handful were veterans of the infamous 1970 Miss World final protest, when stink bombs were hurled on stage during a noisy demonstration. The thousands of fans inside -- many dressed to the nines -- cheered, waved flags and shouted for their favourites.

CBI submits report on Bhanwari Devi Case

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday submitted its status report on the probe conducted so far into the case of missing nurse Bhanwari Devi before the Rajasthan High Court with a request that it not be made public. The division bench of judges Govind Mathur and N.K. Jain was Friday hearing a petition filed by Amarchand, the husband of Bhanwari Devi. CBI submitted the status report in a sealed envelope and requested the court that it should not be made public as investigations were still on. The CBI had Thursday quizzed sacked state minister Mahipal Maderana for over six hours here over his alleged role in the disappearance of the nurse. CBI also requested the court for assigning to them a team of Rajasthan police headed by a deputy inspector general (DIG) of police-rank officer to help trace the missing nurse or her body. But the division bench advised the CBI to approach the state government for the same. The court said, it can only interfere if the state government does not pay heed to the CBI's request. The court has fixed Nov 14 as the next date of hearing.
The status report also came a day after a CD was telecast on some news channels showing the nurse and Maderana in a compromising position. The high court had asked the agency to submit the investigation report in the case. The court had earlier told police to make 'more serious efforts' in searching for Bhanwari Devi. The additional chief judicial magistrate in Jodhpur Sep 24 directed police to include Maderana as an accused and probe his role under sections 376 (rape), 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. Bhanwari Devi has remained absent from duty since Aug 25. A missing person complaint was lodged by her husband Sep 1. The complaint was then turned into a kidnapping case.

Bhanwari devi Maderna CD released on News Channel

Bhanwari Devi case has taken a dramatic turn when a local private news channel P7 released a CD in which former Water Resource Minister Mahipal Maderna and ANM Bhanwari Devi were seen in a compromising situation. The channel Claims that the CD is original. The CD has been released and is making news all over the state. It is to be noted that the CBI recently said that they haven’t got any CD and the projection of CD in the television has probably proved the inefficiency of the CBI. However, the claims made by the private channel indicates the incompetence of administration and CBI in recovering the missing facts related to the Bhanwari Devi missing case. Authentication of CD is still to be confirmed. Maderana had earlier admitted to having had an affair with the missing Bhanwari Devi who was an auxilliary nurse and midwife. Bhanwari has been alleged to have blackmailed him with a sex CD that showed Maderna and Bhanwari in a compromising position. The CBI who is probing the matter has also summoned Congress MLA Malkhan Singh Bishnoi in regards to the case. The investigative agency have also seized a camcorder and a computer that might hold important clues on the missing case of the nurse.
Meanwhile government has taken serious note of the telecast of a CD purportedly showing nurse Bhanwari Devi and former Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna in a compromising position and issued show cause notices to two news channels. Official sources said that the notices have been sent to news channels P7 and Sahara Samay who have been directed not to repeat the telecast of the same. The charges against the two channels are with regard to showing content which is against good taste and decency, not suitable for unrestricted public exhibition, obscene and not meant for viewing by children. The two channels have been given time till 4 pm on November 14 to showcause why action has not not be taken against them. They can also present their case to an inter-ministerial committee at 4 pm on November 14 if they want.

Gehlot meets Sonia Gandhi, Cabinet reshuffle likely

Rajasthan Chief Minister(CM) Ashok Gehlot today met Congress President Sonia Gandhi here for the second time in a week. He briefed her about the political situation in the state. Party sources, however, declined any move to replace Gehlot who is the second time Chief Minister. The high command, however, could effect some changes in his government. The meeting came amid controversies surrounding communal riots in Gopalgarh and an alleged sleaze that led to the sacking of Mahipal Maderna as Water Resources Minister in connection with midwife Bhanwari Devi disappearance case. A cabinet reshuffle is also on cards in the state. After the meeting, Gehlot said he apprised Gandhi of the development work being done in the state and the political situation. He also met the AICC general secretary in-charge for the state Mukul Wasnik. Asked about the commuanl violence incident of Gopalgarh, he said the state government has already ordered a judicial inquiry and recommended a CBI probe. He declined to answer questions on cabinet reshuffle in his state. Two Rajasthan ministers had to go under controversial circumstances in the last few months. Maderna, who was allegedly involved in the case of mysterious disappearance of Bhanwari Devi, was sacked by the Chief Minister on October 16. Another senior minister Amin Khan had to go after he had made a controversial statement in February this year suggesting that President Pratibha Patil got the top post due to her proximity with Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Pushkar fair 2011 begins in Rajasthan

Famous Pushkar fair, which attracts lakhs of people including foreign tourists, began today with a number of cultural programmes, group dance and camel race.  Rajasthan's Minister of State for Information and Public Relations Ashok Baiwa formally inaugurated the fair, which takes place in the Hindu month of Kartika beginning on 8th day of Lunar calendar and continues till full moon.  Over five lakh people are likely to visit the fair in Pushkar, some 15-km from here, officials said.
A large number of people from rural areas have already reached Pushkar, around 15 km from here, and brought along with them camels and horses for livestock trading.  Cattle trading mostly takes place during the first half of the festival period, while religious activities dominate the later half.  Nearly 20,000 cattle are likely to be brought to the fair for livestock trading, the officials said
