Congress prefer Meira Kumar as Speaker instead of Girija Vyas

After she assumed charge as Water Resources Minister in the new Government, Meira Kumar was picked by the Congress high command for the position of Lok Sabha Speaker. As the Congress core committee, headed by Sonia Gandhi, met at the Prime Minister's residence this evening, the initial favourite V Kishore Chandra Deo lost out to two women in the final round, the other being Girija Vyas.
Deo had earned a reputation for his diligence as the chairman of the Privileges Committee and won from Araku in Andhra Pradesh. AICC spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said, Congress would be creating a historical milestone by opting for the first dalit woman Speaker. In the past also, Congress chose the first woman PM, youngest PM, first woman President. The BJP can take credit for appointing the first Dalit Speaker, GMC Balayogi in 1998. Kumar will be the first Dalit woman Speaker. Her move to the Speaker's chair will leave Bihar without representation in the Cabinet. It was a close selection between the two ladies but finally it is looking like congress will provide speaker seat to meira Kumar from Bihar instead of Rajasthan Candidate Girija Vyas.

Ramchandra Choudhary, Bhramdev Kumawat Supporter fight in Sachin Pilot rally

Minister of state Sachin Pilot’s first visit to his constituency Ajmer was greeted with bitter party factionalism on Saturday when a group of Congress workers thrashed parliamentary secretary Brahmdeo Kumawat at a function and the police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the warring groups. Most of the people who had gathered to cheer Sachin Pilot, fled the scene when a fight started between supporters of Ram Chandra Choudhary and Bhramdev Kumawat. Both groups blamed each other for fighting. The function was organised to welcome Mr Sachin Pilot at Krishi Mandi in Vijay Nagar, which falls under the Ajmer parliamentary constituency. The function turned into a battlefield between two groups headed by Congress leader Ramchandra Choudhary and Mr Brahmdev Kumawat’s supporters.
A fist fight broke out between two groups and Mr Kumawat was pushed from the stage. Mr Kumawat was forced to run for his life. The incident occurred in presence of Mr Sachin Pilot. He said that government has realized that problem is not with the programmes which are prepared to help the people. "The issue is in the implementation of these programmes, as they do not reach the needy," said Pilot. Talking about the local issues, Pilot said, "During my visit to the rural areas, I have come across the problems faced by the people and I am determined to solve them." Mr Kumawat told mediapersons that it was Congress leader Ramchandra Choudhary and his supporters who created problem and he was beaten. Mr Choudhary, however, denied the allegation and blamed Mr Kumawat by saying that it was it was a Congress party function and he wasn’t welcome. "Our workers stopped him from interfering but Mr Kumawat manhandled our workers. I will report it to the police," Mr Choudhary said.
Old Issue: Mr Kumawat won the Assembly election from Masooda constituency under Ajmer district as an Independent and declared his unconditional support to the Congress in forming the government. Mr Choudhary had contested the Assembly election against Mr Kumawat but lost in the fight. Ramswaroop choudhary is chairman of Ajmer Dairy he won election by snatching seat from late Govind Singh Gurjar supporters and gurjar support Kumawat in election 2009 so fight still continue..

Amitabh Bachchan denies Phd honour from Queensland University Australia

Upset with the recent racial attacks on Indian students studying in Australia, Bollywood superstar, Amitabh Bachchan, has refused to receive an Australian doctorate. The doctorate has been offered by The Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, in recognition of his contribution to the world of entertainment. Amitabh is only the second person from India, after IT leader Narayan Murthy, to be chosen for such an honour from QUT. The doctorate was to be conferred in time to coincide with a retrospective of his films in the city of Queensland in July.
In a statement on his blog, Mr. Bachchan said :
"I have been witnessing, with great dismay and shock, the recent violent attacks on Indian students in Australia, on the electronic media the entire day. I mean no disrespect to the institution that honours me, but under the present circumstances, where citizens of my own country are subjected to such acts of inhuman horror, my conscience does not permit me to accept this decoration from a country that perpetrates such indignity to my fellow countrymen."
From my opinion as an Indian "I personally think that this is a good thing from Big B but, Indian public should also take note from such incidents. QUT is first ranked University in Australia but in world ranking it is behind IITs and IIMs, So this is time when we have to change our thinking and instead of running behind Developed nations, why not we at least try to make our own nation better. If you are in other country then you are second citizen and you can't change it, so better think about it.

Bing - A New Semantic Search engine from Microsoft

Software giant Microsoft Inc on Thursday unveiled a new Web search engine, Bing, designed to intuitively understand what people are seeking on the Internet and challenge web search engine king Google. Microsoft described Bing as a “Decision Engine” and said it will be deployed worldwide at Bing.com by Wednesday. Microsoft plans to replace current default search engine Live Search engine with Bing after two days of select user testing. The new model employs technology developed by Powerset, the search technology company acquired by Microsoft in 2008.
Bing’s launch comes in the wake of Google and Yahoo! announcing refinements to their search services. “Today, search engines do a decent job of helping people navigate the Web and find information, but they don’t do a very good job of enabling people to use the information they find,” said Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer. “When we set out to build Bing, we grounded ourselves in a deep understanding of how people really want to use the Web.” Bing relies predominately on algorithms and key words to provide results for online searches but has infused some semantic technology that deduces intended meanings of phrases, according to Microsoft.
Bing is the hope and prayers of all Microsoft employees, especially Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer. According to Microsoft, it’s a “decision engine” that will help you make decisions about travel, health, and shopping. First thing to note is that Bing is not going to give you results for normal search queries like Google. So what is Bing do that will make you want to use it? Bing’s main advancement is in semantic search. For example, if you search for an xBox game, not only will you get a list of normal blue link results, but you’ll also get a list of related searches, which includes things like walkthroughs, news, errors, etc. If you search for “Samsung LCD TVs”, you’ll get what is called a Guided Search, which means you’ll have options like looking at Reviews, Manuals, Repair, Images, Videos, etc that are directly related to the item you are searching.
Bing will be launched on 3rd June 2009

Per capita income cross 3000 Rs Per Month

Indian government declared data on economic growth for year 2008-09, which brings two good news. One is that India managed 6.7 per cent economic growth in 2008-09 and second is the per capita monthly income of an average Indian has crossed the Rs 3,000-mark on current price levels because of economic reforms and a high growth rate of above 9% achieved for three years since 2005-06. The per capita income is a measure of average income of a citizen, went up 12.2% to Rs 37,490 per annum during 2008-09, said the advance estimate for national income released by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) on Friday. During 2007-08, the per capita income was Rs 33,283 per annum.
For the UPA, keen to play the aam aadmi beat in celebration of its resounding victory at elections, the task seems to be cut out. With the WPI-based inflation data stabilising prices, global recessions seems to be corroding the financial ability of the poorest section. The per capita income would have been higher but for the global economic crisis, which pulled down the country’s economic growth during 2008-09 to 6.7% from 9% in the previous fiscal. The national income during the year went up to Rs 43.26 lakh crore, showing a rise of 14.2%, while the population of the country increased by 1.6 crore to 115.4 crore. The CSO data further says that the national income at 1999-2000 prices increased by 6.4% to Rs 29.42 lakh crore during 2008-09.

Agatha Sangma becomes the youngest Minister of India

Agatha Sangma, daughter of NCP Leader PA Sangma becomes the youngest member of the Union council of ministers, she took oath yesterday at New Delhi. Sangma’s dogged opposition to Sonia’s foreign origin seemingly melted away, and for once, the two seemed to be on the same page. Agatha, 28, who took her oath in Hindi, faltered twice but continued diligently, drawing approving nods from the greyheads sitting in Ashoka Hall. The last to be sworn in, Agatha asked the secretary to the President to lower the microphone for her before she took oath.
After the swearing in, she signed her name in the register and then went up to the middle of the room bowing her head in the traditional namaste to pay respect to everyone. Her gesture was met with smiles and applause. As Agatha went back to her seat, her new ministerial colleagues shook hands and congratulated her. Congress and NCP have had an uneasy relationship since Sangma, along with Maharashtra strongman Sharad Pawar and Tariq Anwar, split from the Grand Old Party disputing Sonia’s claim to lead the party. Bitter words were exchanged between the two sides with Sangma rubbing the issue of Sonia’s Italian origin which ultimately led to the former Lok Sabha Speaker to be disqualified from the party.

BSNL may provide Local @10 Paise, STD @25 Paise

Telecom Minister A Raja, who has retained the portfolio he held in the previous UPA government, said bringing down mobile tariffs to 10 paise a minute for local calls and 25 paise a minute for STD calls would be on top of his agenda during his second tenure. The new policy envisions mobile tariffs coming down to a tenth of their current rates to 10 paise per minute for local calls and 25 paise per minute for STD calls within the next 24 months. At present, the average tariff is about Re 1 and 2.40 per minute for local and STD calls respectively.
"As per the plan, the Department of Telecom will implement policy decisions first - providing the requisite spectrum to existing operators, carrying out the auction of 3G spectrum, introduction of number portability, giving licenses to new players to enhance competition and promoting large-scale infrastructure sharing - all within the next couple of months. It will help reduce operating costs of telecommunication companies (telecos) and kick-off price wars," explained another official.
It is expected that BSNL will first provide telephone service on this call and that will put a pressure on other telecom operator, so wait and see the changes. It is expected that BSNL will soon announce reduced call rates.

Indian economy grows by 6.7% in 2008-09

Fighting the global recession, India managed 6.7 per cent economic growth in 2008-09 despite the manufacturing sector recording a dismal performance. A 5.8 per cent growth rate during the last quarter of the fiscal, at a time when most developed economies have shrunk, puts India among the top-most growing nations. The news was cheered by the stock market, which saw an immediate rise in the Sensex by 400 points to touch 14,692.27 at the BSE by mid-day, a level witnessed last in September 2008.
Commenting on the growth figures released by the Government today, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said, "It is on the expected lines." The growth rate during 2008-09 is lower than the nine per cent in the preceding fiscal, but that is not as low as expected by certain analysts and quite in the range projected by the RBI: 6.5-7 per cent. However, manufacturing growth turned negative at 1.4 per cent in the fourth quarter, pulling down Q4 GDP growth to 5.8 per cent from 8.6 per cent a year ago. GDP growth in the third quarter of 2008-09 has been revised to 5.8 per cent from 5.3 per cent estimated provisionally.

DMK chief Karunanidhi on Friday appointed his son M K Stalin as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The DMK chief, who appointed his 55-year-old son to be his deputy, entrusted to him the portfolios of Industry, General Administration, District Revenue Officers and Minority Welfare hitherto held by him. Champions League T20 not part of ICC Plan

Contradicting Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi's claims, the ICC has made it clear that the Champions League Twenty20 was not part of its Future Tours Programme. Modi had said on the IPL's official website that an annual window for the Twenty20 event, which will be held later this year in India between champion teams of seven countries, will be created in the FTP.
"Champions League has already been slotted in as part of the FTP. For an international tournament of this magnitude and this quality, we are working with all the member countries and the ICC," Modi had said. But ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat clarified that FTP does not include any fixtures between domestic teams, even those from more than one country. "The FTP does not include any fixtures between domestic teams, even those from more than one country, and only features ICC events, such as the ICC Cricket World Cup, the ICC Champions Trophy and the ICC World Twenty20, and bilateral fixtures between Full Member international teams," Lorgat said in a statement.

Gurjar Panchayat on 10th June 2009 in Rajasthan

It is one year, when Rajasthan, a calm state burn up with caste based clash for reservation. between Gurjar and Meena Community. Gurjar leader Col Kirori Singh Bainsla was talking today to the media after a memorial function in Sikandra in memory of the people killed during Gujjar agitation last year. Bainsla said a memorial for the 25 Gujjars including four people killed in Lalsot would be constructed near the old police station in Sikandra which was burnt down during the agitation. He added that welfare programmes for the victims’ families are also being chalked out. He Said, “Gujjars will decide the future course of action on their original demand for reservation under the ST quota at a large Gujjar panchayat to be held on June 10. They are seeing an opportunity next year when the Central government will review the reservation given to the STs when the 10-year extension expires.” Meanwhile, Bainsla demanded that the special reservation of 5% agreed by the previous government be implemented in the state.
Current Status of Gurjar Reservation:
The bill titled the Rajasthan Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Class (OBC), Special Backward Classes, and Economically Backward Classes, 2008 was, however, pending with the governor since then. The governor had refused to entertain the pleas by the BJP government saying that the bill exceeded 50 % ceiling of reservation by the Supreme Court.
Now Government need to take extra care about the 10th June's Panchayat by Gurjar Community, so that any mis-happening can be avoided within the time, instead of creating mishap like May-June 2008 Gurjar-Meena Clash.

Monsoon rains are key for cultivation of kharif crops which account for nearly 60 per cent of the farm output of the country. A good kharif season augurs well for a range of goods and services.
The weather office had earlier forecast that monsoon would reach Kerala between 23rd and 25th May. The normal monsoon onset date over Kerala is June one. Most parts of the state have been receiving widespread pre-monsoon showers, creating the mood of the arrival of the rainy season. Weather scientists are keeping a close watch on the low pressure area currently lying over east-central Bay of Bengal which is expected to intensify into a cyclone. Last year, the South West Monsoon broke in over Kerala on 28th May, three days ahead of the normal onset date of June one. Despite its early onset, the actual amount of rainfall in the initial phases of the monsoon was much below the expected levels, having adverse consequences on the farm sector and the hydro power generation in the state.
