Gagan Narang wins a bronze Medal in London Olympics

Ace shooter Gagan Narang won India's first medal at the London Olympics today by winning a bronze medal. Earlier, Beijing Games gold medallist Abhinav Bindra had crashed out of the 10m air rifle event at the London Olympics with a dismal display in the qualifying rounds, but compatriot Gagan Narang kept alive India's hopes by advancing to the medal round here. Bindra, who scripted history four years ago by becoming the country's first-ever individual gold medallist in the Olympics, shot 594 out of 600 to finish a shocking 16th out of 47 competitors and lost the golden chance of becoming the world's first shooter to win two successive gold medals at the mega event.
Gagan’s score in the final round — 10.7, 9.7, 10.6, 10.7, 10.4, 10.6, 9.9, 9.5, 10.3, 10.7. Super shooting. Successive medals at the Olympics in the 10m Air Rifle event for India — Bindra won gold in 2008 and now, Narang has won bronze. Great stuff

Caste Panchayat Strips Woman in Rajasthan, CM order Probe

In a shameful incident a married woman and her paramour were tied to a tree, stripped half-naked and severely beaten up for nearly three hours before a crowd of 1,000 people under orders of a caste panchayat at Sarada area in Udaipur district of Rajasthan. Rajasthan government ordered an inquiry into Sunday’s shocking incident of a caste panchayat in the predominantly Adivasi area in Udaipur stripping a woman and beating her lover after tying them to trees. The Meena panchayat of Sarada tehsil’s Limbathada in Kolar village carried out its decision after forcing the police to make a hasty retreat under heavy stone-throwing. “This is shocking. Whatever the reason, nobody will be allowed to take the law into their own hands,” said Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who ordered an inquiry by the Udaipur Divisional Commissioner. “The law will take its own course,” he said, talking to journalists in Udaipur.
The woman's fault was that she had an extra-marital relationship with a man from the neighbourhood and eloped with him. The couple had run away but were brought back by their families and put on trial before the village body. When the police tried to save them, they were pelted with stones. The situation is still said to be tense but the police say the couple is in their safe custody. Now comes the Million $ question How could a caste based Panchayats get power to decide the fate of a Woman, even after 60 years of Independence, is it All about caste based Politics or Failure of system specially in Rural India.

Ramadan 2012 to starts from Tomorrow in India

Ramadan or Ramajan 2012 starts in India from Tomorrow, 21st July, 2012 as per Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Delhi. Delhi's Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Abdullah Bukhari said today evening. The first fasting of the holy month, therefore, begins on Saturday, he added. The ninth month of the Islamic calendar, when Muslims around the globe refrain during the day from eating and drinking, begins July 21.
Fasting in the month of Ramadan is also one of the five cardinal points of Islamic tenet. Another deep significance of the period is that the Holy Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad during this time. During Ramzan, observers do not eat and drink from dawn until sunset. Only two meals are allowed – ‘suhoor’ before dawn, and ‘iftar’ after sundown. Ramzan is the ninth month of lunar Islamic calendar which lasts for around 29-30 days depending on visual sighting of the crescent moon. The observers fast during this time and recite Quran and offer prayers.

Most Congress leaders including the dissidents ruled out the possibility of cross voting in the elections. “There are no possibilities of cross voting. Even several BJP leaders can vote in our favor,” said Sachin Pilot, Union minister.
Gehlot said the results of the presidential elections were decided on the day Sonia Gandhi announced Mukherjee's name as UPA's candidate. "Mukherjee is an accepted candidate not just for the UPA but for the entire country. His victory is certain and the politics over the issue is rather unfortunate,'' Gehlot said. The total value of votes from the state is 50,580.

Jaipur schools remains closed till July 8

All private and government schools in Jaipur will be closed till 8th July 2012 as per recent decision by administration due to higher temprature and heat in Jaipur. The schools were to reopen Monday for this academic session, officials said. As per the weather department, the mercury hovered around 43 degrees Celsius in Jaipur Sunday, making the first day of July hottest over the past few years. The teachers and other staff members will have to come to schools but the students will come only after July 8. Education Minister Brijkishore Sharma said the younger kids face real problems while commuting to and fro their schools in this weather. This is why the administration has decided to give them some relief, he said. District Collector Naveen Mahajan Sunday issued an order extending the holidays till July 8 in Jaipur district, he said. "The orders will be applicable not only to government schools, but also the private ones in Jaipur district," said the officer.
