1993 Jaipur Blast: Two blast accused jailed

A Pakistan-trained militant was on Tuesday sentenced to 20 years in jail, while his accomplice awarded 15-year prison term for triggering the 1993 serial blasts in Jaipur. A special anti-terror court, while sentencing the duo, Abrer Rehmat alias Kari and his accomplice Jalis Ansari, also imposed a fine of Rs 13,500 and 11,000 respectively on them. The Jaipur Special TADA court of Kamal Kumar Bagdi sentenced the duo after convicting them for various offences under the now repealed anti-terror law, Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA). They were also convicted under various sections of the Explosive Substances Act.
A teenager had been injured after three low-intensity bombs kept in tiffin boxes went off in Jaipur's Walled City area on Sep 30, 1993. "First information reports regarding the blasts had been registered with three police stations in Jaipur. The case was being investigated by Rajasthan police's Central Investigation Department. The police had later arrested Jalees Ansari, Abrar Rehmat Ansari, Jamal Alvi and Dr Habib Ahmed," said special public prosecutor Bhagirath Shekhawat. He added that police had filed a chargesheet against the four accused. The advocate said that it came up during investigation that the blasts in Jaipur had been planned in retaliation to the Babri Masjid demolition in Ayodhya in 1992. "The court has sentenced Jalees Ansari, Abrar Rehmat Ansari to 15 and 20 years of imprisonment respectively, while Jamal Alvi and Dr Habib Ahmed have been released," said Shekhawat.

CD Row: Abhishek Singhvi Resigns from all Official Posts

Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi on Monday resigned as Chairman of a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law and party spokesperson in a damage control exercise ahead of the resumption of the budget session on Tuesday. 53- year-old Singhvi, an eminent lawyer and a Rajya Sabha member, sent a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi informing her of his decision ten days after circulation of a CD purportedly involving him. "I have done this only to prevent even the slightest possible Parliamentary disruption regarding the purported CDs being circulated about me. "Since I am a disciplined party soldier, I did not think it fit to subject the party to any inconvenience on this account. All allegations are patently baseless and false," he said in a statement. Singhvi acquired high profile after the committee headed by him came out with a report on the Lokpal last year on whose recommendation the government brought a legislation on the issue.
Singhvi, who was taken off the AICC briefing last week, said that "canards and baseless" allegations were being spread about alleged inappropriate conversations in the alleged CD. "People inimically opposed to me, who have assiduously spent over ten days hearing, seeing, amplifying and distilling the CD found no vestige of any reference, not even remotely, to any illegality, corrupt practice or wrongdoing. "Specifically, some sections of the print and visual media are spreading a falsehood simply by repetition and hearsay that there is a reference in the CD to the promise of any post. No one has heard any such reference in the CD. There is none simply because it does not exist. It is pure imagination, wishful thinking and sensationalism," he said. Singhvi said the canard was spread simply to give the issue a public interest flavour since otherwise the contents of the CD, "assuming them to be true, (which they certainly are not), would disclose only something private and consensual giving a cause of action only to aggrieved family members (who have stood completely by me) and to no one else".

MLA Hanuman Beniwal suspended from assembly

Rajasthan MLA Hanuman Beniwal suspended for a year from the assembly for using foul language against a minister during assembly session. Hanuman Beniwal, who represents Khinsar assembly constituency in Nagaur district, was suspended by Deputy Speaker Ramnarayan Meena when two ministers in the state cabinet including Minister of State for Health Rajkumar Sharma staged a sit-in demanding action the legislator. It was alleged that Beniwal had used abusive language against Sharma Monday. Beniwal and Sharma had come close to a fistfight Monday after a heated exchanged of words.
The two legislators shed their ‘parliamentary behaviour’ and almost came to blows with each other, before fellow MLAs intervened and separated them.  It all started when Rajkumar Sharma was replying to a debate on state initiatives in the health sector and Beniwal suddenly got up and alleged that ministers go with sweets to the legislators when their questions are listed for debate in the Assembly. Sharma was quick to warn Beniwal and asked him to mind his language, which angered the Khinwsar MLA. who reminded Sharma’s of his days in the University of Rajasthan in language laced with expletives. An enraged Sharma then challenged Beniwal. The assembly was disrupted over the issue by the ruling Congress party members several times since Tuesday morning. After Beniwal's suspension, the opposition also staged a walk-out demanding suspension of Sharma also. Elected on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket, Beniwal was suspended in December 2011 from the party for publicly condemning former chief minister Vasundhra Raje and other senior party leaders.

Loan rate to get Cheaper, RBI cuts Repo rate

Reserve Bank of Indian(RBI) Governor D Subbarao has slashed short term lending rate by 0.50% to 8%, a move that will reduce the cost of home, auto and corporate loans. The reduction in the repo rate at which RBI lends to banks, has been prompted by deceleration in growth and softening of inflation. The cut is aimed at spurring growth to 9 percent levels, seen before the global financial crisis that began in 2008, Subbarao said while unveiling the annual credit policy in Mumbai on Tuesday. "The reduction in the repo rate is based on an assessment of growth having slowed below its post-crisis trend rate, which, in turn, is contributing to the moderation in core inflation," the Governor said.
RBI has pegged the GDP growth rate for 2012-13 at 7.3 percent. It is expected to be 6.9 percent in 2011-12. After two consecutive cuts since January, the Governor, however, retained the cash reserve ratio at 4.75 percent. Subbarao, however, ruled out further reduction in policy rate in the immediate future citing persistent upside risks to inflation and possible fiscal slippages driven by higher oil subsidies. It expects the inflation to be around 6.5 percent by March 2013.

Arun Jaitley meet Rajendra Rathore in Jaipur Jail

Arun Jaitley, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha  meet former minister and party’s chief whip in the assembly Rajendra Rathore who was recently arrested for his alleged involvement in the Dara Singh fake encounter case. Jaitley was in Jaipur on Monday particularly to meet Rathore in the Central Jail. Post-meeting, he announced that the party would leave no stone unturned in fighting the legal battle for Rathore. “I was aware that Rathore was falsely implicated in the case as I had studied the case papers earlier. After meeting him, my belief has strengthened. This is a case of gross abuse of the system and the CBI has implicated him without evidence. In legal terms, it’s a case of no evidence,’’ said Jaitley, while interacting with media persons at the BJP state headquarters.
56-year-old Rathore, a five-time MLA and state BJP whip, was arrested by the CBI on April 5 for his alleged involvement in the fake encounter killing of local liquor smuggler Dara Singh in 2006. Mr. Jaitley was accompanied by party MLAs Digambar Singh, Gyan Dev Ahuja, Radheyshyam Ganganagar and others when he met Mr. Rathore. “I came here to meet our party worker (Rathore). The party’s national president also said that I should go and meet him. I hope that Rathore would be back in active politics soon,” the BJP leader said. Meanwhile, a special CBI court extended the judicial custody of Mr. Rathore till April 24 and reserved its ruling on taking cognisance of the charge sheet against him. Mr. Rathore alleged that he was being implicated falsely in the case at the behest of the Congress government. He claimed that he was not even remotely concerned with Dara Singh, who was allegedly killed by special operation group on the outskirts of Jaipur on October 23, 2006.

Rajasthan MLA Rajendra Singh rathore arrested in Dara Singh encounter case

Former Rajasthan Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Whip Rajendra Singh Rathore was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here on Thursday for his alleged involvement in the Dara Singh encounter killing. He represents Taranagar Assembly constituency in Churu district. Mr. Rathore, a close ally of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, was presented before the Special Court soon after. The court remanded him to judicial custody till April 9. The investigating agency in its charge sheet has said: "There were two rival liquor mafias in Churu and Jhunjhunu districts of Rajasthan. One was headed by Sumer Singh Fagediya and included Vijendra Singh, alias Tilaia, and Dara Singh. The other group, ruled by one Virender Singh Nyangli, was protected by the then BJP minister and present MLA Rajender Singh Rathore."Some senior police officers, including A K Jain, have also been booked by the CBI
Meanwhile reacting on arrest of its MLA Rajendra Rathore in Dara Singh fake encounter case, BJP Thursday announced state-wide protests and demonstrations on April 7. "The party workers will stage dharnas and demonstrate in all districts to protest against the arrest, which, he said, was an example of how CBI is being misused by the Congress," the party's state president Arun Chaturvedi told reporters in the party office after Rathore's arrest. Chaturvedi said that the party stands by Rathore and backs him. Leader of Opposition and former chief minister Vasundhara Raje said that the UPA government was fully misusing the agency for its political agenda. "We have examples of CBI's misuse in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh also. In Rajasthan, Rathore was arrested on the ground of a baseless story and only on direction of the Congress," she alleged. Meanwhile Congress Pradesh Committee Chief(PCC) Dr. Chandrabhan singh demands suspension of Rathore from Party on moral ground.
