Vasundhara Raje expands cabinet, 14 new ministers inducted

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Monday inducted 14 members into her council of ministers, raising the size of her ministry to 26. Of the 14 new ministers, four were given cabinet rank, six were sworn in as Minister of State with Independent charge, and four others as Minister of State. The ministers were administered oath of office and secrecy by Governor Kalyan Singh at Raj Bhavan. Eight of them were already ministers in Raje's previous term during 2003-08.
Those sworn in as Cabinet Ministers are Rajpal Singh (MLA from Jhotwara), Kiran Maheshwari (Rajsamand), Surendra Goyal (Jaitaran) and Rampratap (Hanumangarh). The Ministers of State (with Independent charge) are Amra Ram (Pachpadra), Krishnendra Kaur (Nadbai), Vasudev Devnani (Ajmer North), Rajkumar Rinwa, Surendra Pal Singh (Karanpur) and Anita Bhadel (Ajmer South) while Minister of State are Pushpendra Singh (Bali), Baboo Lal Verma (Keshoraipatan), Arjunlal, Otaram Dewasi (Sirohi). The portfolios will be announced later.

Pushkar Fair 2014 from 31st October to 6th November

Pushkar Fair 2014 is all set to starts from 31st October  2014 with flag hoisting ceremony at mela ground. Pushkar fair 2014 will be held from 31st October to 6th November 2014. Pushkar Fair is yearly camel and livestock fair, celebrated in the town of Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan. During the fair, Lakhs of people from rural India flock to Pushkar, along with camel and cattle for several days of livestock trading, horse dealing, pilgrimage and religious festival. The Pushkar fair, one of the key tourist attraction of the desert state, will be held at the mela ground in Pushkar where people from around the country are likely to participate. This small town, becomes a cultural phenomenon when colourfully dressed devotees, musicians, acrobats, folk dancers, traders, comedians, ‘sadhus’ and tourists reach here during Pushkar fair. According to Hindu chronology, it takes place in the month of Kartika beginning on ‘ashtmi’ 8th day of Lunar Calendar and continues till full moon (‘Poornima’). The camel and cattle trading is at its peak during the first half of festival period. During the later half, religious activities dominate the scenario. Devotees take dips in the holy "Sarovar" lake, as the sacred water is known to bestow salvation.
It is one of the world's largest camel fair apart from buying and selling of livestock, and its highlights have become competitions such as the "matka phod", "longest moustache", and "bridal competitions" are the main draws for this fair which attracts thousands of tourists. People throughout the country are allowed to visit the fair to sell their live stocks as well. Handicrafts have much demand in the mela as worldwide tourists visit the destination to buy attractive arts and crafts. An estimated number of around 50,000 camels are brought in the Pushkar camel festival. In recent years the fair has also included an exhibition cricket match between the local Pushkar club and a team of random foreign tourists. People enjoy the dances, music, camel races and many other exciting competitions.

Rajasthan Govt announces Rs 3387 Diwali bonus for employees

Rajasthan Government announced  Rs 3387 Diwali bonus for employees. The Government of Rajasthan today announced to pay bonus to its non-gazetted employees on the eve of Diwali. Employees getting grade-pay of Rs.4800 or less than per month would be entitle for bonus, according to an official statement. As per Finance department's circular every employee would get bonus of Rs 3,387 and it bonus would cover 6 lakh employees. 
The beneficiaries would get bonus around Diwali, which will be equivalent to  their basic pay of one month. Bonus will be paid to employees working  with Zila Parishad, Panchayat Samiti too. The bonus would mean an additional burden of Rs 203 crore for the government.  Gazetted officers would not be entitled for this bonus. 

Rajiv Mehrishi is New Finance Secretary

Rajiv Mehrishi, chief secretary of Rajasthan, will replace Arvind Mayaram as economic affairs secretary ahead of the budget-making process of the central government. Ministry of Finance has four secretaries - Economic Affairs, Expenditure, Revenue and Financial Services. The senior most among the four is designated Finance Secretary.  An Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1978 batch from the Rajasthan cadre, Mehrishi is known as a forward-thinking bureaucrat who is credited with kick-starting labour reforms in the western state ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
 The 59-year-old bureaucrat was serving at the Centre in the Overseas Indian Affairs ministry last year when Ms Raje called him back to Rajasthan when she took over as chief minister. Most of Mr Mehrishi's assignments have been in departments that deal with economics. Mr Mehrishi is an alumnus of St Xaviers School Jaipur and got a college degree from Delhi's St Stephen's. He has an MBA from the United Kingdom. He is a Rajasthan cadre officer of the 1978 batch. The man he replaces in the finance ministry, Mr Mayaram, is a batch mate.

Rajasthan signs 3 key partnership agreements with Singapore

Rajasthan government inked 3 key partnership agreements with Singapore firms to promote investments in the state with Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje saying India cannot achieve its goals without including private sectors and FDI in the development process. Raje, who is on a six-day visit Singapore since Oct 11, along with a high-level delegation of officials and business leaders from the state, Tuesday visited the ITE where the agreement was signed in her presence by the state's principal secretary, industries, Veenu Gupta. The ITE has been entrusted with transforming technical training in Rajasthan starting with ITI, Udaipur, the statement said.

Rajasthan became first Indian state to start Olive refinery

Rajasthan on 3rd October 2014 became the first state of India to start Olive oil refinery. The refinery established at an expense of 3.75 crore rupees in Lunkaransar area of Bikaner was inaugurated by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. Addressing the gathering at the inauguration ceremony, she stated, “I feel proud to announce that Rajasthan has become the first state to have a functioning olive refinery. Soon the petroleum refinery at Barmer will become operative and Rajasthan will be among the most developed states. As the quality of oil produced from the refinery is highly satisfactory, olive farming would benefit the farmers in monetary terms.”  The current production of Olives, which have immense benefits for health, in the state is around 100-110 tonnes annually and expected to grow, the minister said, while adding efforts will also be made to spread awareness about the benefits of the fruit and its oil.
The Vasundhara Raje government, in its earlier term in 2007, had commenced the Olive cultivation project by taking assistance from Israel and planted 1.12 lakh saplings in 7 agro-climatic zones which have started bearing fruit with rich contents. "The project has been very successful and the fruiting is rich with nearly 15 per cent contents. There is huge potential to increase the area under cultivation in Rajasthan, which is two-and-a-half times larger than Greece, the world's third largest producer of olives. Spain, the world's biggest producer which last year accounted for around 50% of total production worldwide, has spent millions of dollars to promote its olive oil domestically and internationally.

India wins Double Gold in Kabaddi at Asian Games 2014

India won a double gold in kabaddi beating Iran in both men's and women's categories on the 14th and penultimate day of competitions in Incheon Asian Games 2014. After twin golds on a super Thursday, India are certain to add to the medal tally and finish among the six top nations. 
Indian women's kabaddi team wins its second successive gold medal at the Asian Games, beating Iran 31-21 in the summit clash on Friday. India thus maintained their supremacy in women's kabaddi, which made its Asiad debut in the previous edition in Guangzhou. In today's match, the Indians were slow off the blocks but clawed back with utmost ease showing just why they are considered the powerhouse of the sport. Against the very determined Iranians, India led the first half 15-11 before completely dominating the second half to seal the issue. The Indians managed get the entire opposition declared out twice in the match, which gave them four 'lona' points -- a feat that Iran failed to do even once. In the end, India were too strong and technically sound for the Iranians to beat despite their determination.
Indian Men's Kabaddi team have beaten Iran 27-25 to win their seventh Asian Games gold in men's kabaddi. The Indian team, which has been winning gold ever since the sport was introduced on the Asiad roster in 1990, was given a massive scare by Iran, who had finished runners-up in the 2010 edition as well.The Iranians took a massive ten-point lead in the first 20 minutes before the Indians got their act together to nullify the deficit and edge past in the closing few minutes of the match.In fact, the Indians managed to take a lead only in the 37th minute of the match.

Indian hockey wins Gold Asian Games Gold, qualify for Rio Olympics

The Indian men's hockey team regained the gold medal after a gap of 16 years while the women's 4x400m relay team also picked up a yellow metal as India added five medals to jump to the ninth position in the overall standings in the 17th Asian Games on Thursday. In a thrilling final, India got the better of Pakistan to win the Asian Games men's hockey gold after 16 years. India and Pakistan were locked 1-1 at the end of 60 minutes of regulation time. In a dramatic shootout, India prevailed 4-2 after goalkeeper Sreejesh brought off a couple of stunning saves.The win ensures India a direct ticket to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. India were playing an Asian Games final after a gap of 12 years.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has congratulated the medal winners at the Incheon Asian Games. "Very good day for India at the Asian Games. Congrats to our Hockey Team & congrats to our women athletes for the Gold in 4x400 metres relay. I have been closely following India`s progress at the Asian Games & I congratulate every medal winner. You make India very proud," the Prime Minister said.

PM launches Swachh Bharat Mission

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches Swachh Bharat Mission campaign. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wielded a broom to launch his pet Swachh Bharat mission, a cleanliness drive across India, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. After paying tributes at the memorials of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries, Modi himself swept a pavement at Valmiki Basti, a colony of sanitation workers here, before the formal launch of the 'Clean India' drive at Rajpath. While launching the mission at Mandir Marg here, he also made a surprise visit at the local police station to check on cleanliness. Accompanied by officials, the Prime Minister collected the garbage and put it in a bin. He later interacted with the children there.
"I bow to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary.... Gandhi ji's thoughts and beliefs remain a great inspiration for us. Let us dedicate ourselves to building the India of Gandhi ji's dreams," he said in a series of tweets. He also recalled Shastri's famous 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' slogan. He began his day by paying tributes to Gandhi at Raj Ghat and Lal Bahadur Shastri at Vijay Ghat. About 31 lakh central government employees across the country took a pledge of cleanliness in various public functions organised today as part of Modi government's 'Clean India' mission. In addition, lakhs of state government employees have been asked to be part of this massive drive.
