SC stays HC verdict in Ayodhya title suit for 1 week

The Supreme Court has stayed for a week the Ayodhya title suit verdict that was due to be pronounced by Allahabad High Court on Friday and will hear the plea for deferment of the judgement next Tuesday. The Supreme Court's decision on Thursday came after an appeal to the stay on the judgment, saying the matter could be settled out of court. The court also issued notice to all the parties to the title suit and asked the attorney general to be present in the court when the case is heard on 28th September. Ramesh Chandra Tripathi, a retired bureaucrat, had filed a petition in the Supreme Court asking it to postpone the ruling on an ownership fight over a religious site in Ayodhya.
A bench of the apex court comprising Justices Altmas Kabir and A K Patnaik had on Thursday declined to hear urgently the plea to postpone the Ayodhya title suit verdict. While refusing to hear the petition filed by retired bureaucrat Tripathi, the bench had said that it did not have the "determination" to take up the issue and added that it will be listed before another Bench. Mukul Rohatgi, senior counsel appearing for Tripathi, said the Supreme Court may give a healing touch by attempting a last-ditch effort at mediation.

Govt appeals for peace ahead of Ayodhya title verdict

Appealing for peace ahead of pronouncement of the Ayodhya title verdict, Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday said it would be inappropriate to reach any hasty conclusion that one side has won or that the other side has lost. In a statement two days ahead of the Allahabad High Court judgement, he asked states to take adequate measures to maintain law and order, especiallly in sensitive areas. The Home Minister said it is possible that there will be one or more judgements delivered by the three-judge special Bench. "The judgements would have to be read carefully, and the findings of the Hon'ble judges on each of the issues in the four suits would have to be analysed meticulously, before any conclusions may be drawn," he said. "It would be inappropriate to reach any hasty conclusion that one side has 'won' or that the othe other side has 'lost'," he said.
Chidambaram said it would be reasonable to assume that one or both sides would immediately apply to the special Bench for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court. "I would, therefore, appeal to all the parties to the suits as well as the general public and the media to reserve their opinions on the judgement or judgements of the Special Bench and not make any hasty pronouncements," he said while reading out the statement to reporters. Chidambaram, who did not take any questions, said it is the government's earnest hope that all sections of the people will cooperate with the government in maintaining peace, order, harmony and tranquuility.

lawyers Strike in Rajasthan finally ends

The ongoing indefinite strike by advocates in Rajasthan ended at midnight on Tuesday in a dramatic manner after all judges the state High Court held a meeting and decided to do away with the disputed judicial service exams against which the lawyers were protesting. The Rajasthan High Court had earlier in the day issued notices to agitating lawyers and the state government on a petition seeking to declare the strike illegal.
The lawyers are on a strike for almost a month alleging irregularities in the Rajasthan Higher Judicial Services examination (RHJS) 2010. The Full Court of Rajasthan HC had a meeting in the midnight and all the judges unanimously decided to do away with the disputed examination conducted for the selection of 36 additional and district sessions judges. "The lawyers have given in writing that they agree to resume court work from tomorrow," said Vinay Chawala, Principal Private Secretary to the Chief Justice.

Truth Behind "Indian National Anthem is the best in the world - UNESCO" !

UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), has announced that the Indian National Anthem is the best in the world. Claims that UNESCO has chosen the Indian National Anthem as the best in the world appear to be unfounded. The story is currently circulating via email, and has also been posted to many blogs and forums, especially those that target an Indian audience. However, I could not find any evidence whatsoever that confirms the rather fanciful claim in the message.
While real fact is there is nothing about such an announcement on the UNESCO website, nor are there any credible news reports that back up the claim in any way. If such an announcement was true, it seems very likely that it would have been widely reported - and one would suspect, hotly debated - in media outlets both in India and around the world. Thus, it seems apparent that the story is no more than another pointless Internet rumour with no basis in fact. As its name suggests, UNESCO conducts very important work on an international scale in the spheres of education, science and culture. Therefore, it seems extremely unlikely that UNESCO would waste its valuable time and resources on the rather frivolous, and ultimately meaningless, exercise of nominating the world's best national anthem.
But all that matter is that we love our Nation and its Anthem who really give power to unite and work for nation.

India third most powerful nation in world - US Report

A US official report on Global governance has declared India as the third most powerful country in the world after the US and China. The new global power lineup for 2010 also predicted that New Delhi's clout in the world will further rise by 2025. Among the powerful bloc, the country has been rated fourth most powerful after the US, China and the European Union. "Global Governance 2025" was jointly issued by the National Intelligence Council (NIC) of the US and the European Union's Institute for Security Studies (EUISS).
In 2010, the US tops the list of powerful countries/regions, accounting for nearly 22 percent of the global power. The US is followed by China at 12 percent, European Union at 16 percent and India at eight percent. India is followed by Japan, Russia and Brazil with less than five percent each. According to this international futures model, by 2025 the power of the US, EU, Japan and Russia will decline while that of China, India and Brazil will increase, even though there will be no change in this listing. By 2025, the United States will still be the most powerful country of the world, but it will have a little over 18 percent of the global power. The US will be closely followed by China with 16 percent, European Union with 14 percent and India with 10 percent.

Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi engaged

After a lot of speculation, it is finally revealed that tennis ace Mahesh Bhupati and Lara Dutta are now officially engaged. Announcing it on Twitter, Mahesh Bhupati wrote, “So Lara and me got engaged in NY last week”. The news got confirmed when Lara re-tweeted it with a smiley face. While Lara tweeted about her recent New York trip, the news of their engagement was a surprise even as the couple has been seeing each other for quite some time. Lara had written earlier this week, “Catching up with friends and visiting my old neighborhood in NYC! The cup cakes at Magnolia r still the best by far! I love this city!! Finished a 7am boot camp class in NYC! Came crawling out of it! Thought I was going 2 pass out, but survived!! Cupcake as reward!
In the past, the two have remained tight-lipped about their relationship, and beyond the public signs of affection, they have never acknowledged that they are a couple. Clearly, the two are in ‘love’ and guess they are now happy to let know the world about it.

Congress manage to end Sarpanch Stir in Rajasthan

The Ashok Gehlot-government successfully defused the law and order crisis that emerged in the state after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seized the reigns of the sarpanches' demonstration and threatened to lead them to the state assembly on Friday. Taking the Opposition by surprise, the government arrested four legislators Rajendra Rathore and Om Birla of BJP, Amra Ram and Pawan Duggal of CPM and independent MP Kirori Lal Meena, while forcefully transporting the protesting sarpanches out of the city early on Friday. With 200 protesters arrested and the remaining shunted out, the BJP's plan to hold a protest rally was foiled. The demonstration could have turned violent as it was against the administration's prohibitory orders against public gathering around the assembly.
Even as the BJP accused the government of being insensitive, undemocratic and autocratic, Gehlot took credit for having tactfully avoided any violent situation. Addressing the media at his residence in the evening, the chief minister said, "I am satisfied that the BJP and its leaders who tried to seize an issue that was not theirs were completely exposed. The day passed of peacefully, otherwise there would have been unnecessary violence for which the BJP had conspired." He even had a piece of advice for the opposition. "I appeal to the BJP and CPM leaders to work only according to their parties' ideologies, instead of involving in violence and creating trouble," Gehlot said. The arrested MLAs Rajendra Rathore and Om Birla of BJP and Amra Ram and Pawan Duggal of CPI-Mwere released in the late afternoon, along with Dausa MP Kirori Lal Meena.

Demand for Bhojpuri, Rajasthani to get official Language status

A demand for inclusion of Bhojpuri and Rajasthani languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution came into focus in the Lok Sabha on Monday through a calling-to-attention motion. Minister of State for Home, Ajay Makan assured the agitated House that recognition to the two languages is under the government's consideration on the basis of the report of the Sitaram Mahapatra committee report of 2004 which was set up . While the Eighth Schedule now has 22 languages recognised under the Constitution, Makan said the government has representations for inclusion of 38 other languages and the same are to be vetted under the criteria set by the Mahapatra committee.
They emphasized that Bhojpuri was the language of people not only in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh but spoken by the migrants in a large number of states as also in 12 countries. Those speaking Bhojpuri numbered anywhere between 18 and 25 crores, they contended and stressed that the language deserved constitutional recognition, particularly because it is not only a spoken language but has a 1000-year history, literature and grammar.
Nirupam and Singh said equally important was the Rajasthani language that was the language spoken in whole of the state of Rajasthan and also by the Marwaris settled all over India. Both faulted the government for sitting over demand for including the two languages in the Schedule since after the Mahapatra report was received back in 2004. Singh pointed out that then Home Minister Shivraj Patil had assured the House to include the two languages in the schedule "soon" and his deputy Jaiswal even promised immediately, but nothing had been done to date. Pal added that Patil had agreed for including the languages in principle and as such the government should implement it.
