Paes-Black win Australian Open mixed doubles title

Leander Paes and Cara Black beat Ekaterina Makarova and Jaroslav Levinsky in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 at the Australian Open mixed. Paes and Black, who lifted the US Open trophy in 2008 in their maiden venture, have been the hottest mixed team in the last six months, making the finals of three successive majors. The worrying aspect, though, is the fact that the Indo-Zimbabwean pair tripped at the final hurdle in back-to-back Slams (2009 Wimbledon and US Open). The top seeded Indo-Zimbawean pair came from behind to edge past seventh seeds Lisa Raymond and Wesley Moodie 6-7, 7-6 (5), 10-7 in the semi-finals at Melbourne Park. Paes has so far won 10 Grand Slam titles, including six men's doubles trophies.

Protest against Veer in Rajasthan

Salman Khan-starrer Veer is in controversy in Jaipur and Bikaner where karni sena damage multiplex and stop screening at one multiplex, leading to a lathi charge on intruders. Karni Sena protest alleging that a few scenes in the movie were hurting the sentiments of the Rajput community. They smashed window panes and flowerpots at both the places while shouting slogans against Salman. The police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd and arrested 22 demonstrators. Police said over 200 people gathered at INOX multiplex in Vaishali Nagar and another 150 at Triton Mall in Jhotwara and started shouting slogans. At both the places, the police had to resort to mild lathicharge as the crowd damaged property. They broke glass doors and smashed some flowerpots on the ground. Twentytwo demonstrators were arrested under Section 151 of the IPC. They were later remanded to judicial custody.
The Karni Sena has raised objections on three scenes in the movie which they feel show the community in a bad light: The Rajtilak of a Rajput princess despite her father being alive; Salman’s dialogue where he claims Rajputs as traitors and a Rajput prince backing out of a challenge. Earlier, movies with Rajput subjects like Jodhaa Akbar, Gulaal and Zubeida ahd also faced wrath of Rajput protestors.

RSS Slams MSN, Shiv Sena over Cheap North Indian based Politics

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday, Jan 31, slammed the Shiv Sena over Marathi language issue in Maharashtra. Mohan Bhagwat, RSS chief has issued a directive to Sangh workers to protect North Indians in the state in the wake of the Shiv Sena's Marathi Andolan. Recently, Shiv Sena had told to the Government to give taxi permits to only those who know how to speak, read and write Marathi. Raj Thackeray had said, "They don't know the language, they don't know the city. Maharashtra is not a Dharamshala for people from UP and Bihar. If they are plying 4,500 taxi's they have also set 4,500 homes in Mumbai." Meanwhile today Yog guru Baba ramdev also slam tharkare brothers party MSN and shivsena at Lucknow for dividing nation. He said "Mumbai sabki hai, Yahan kisi ki dadagiri nahi chalegi"
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat urge RSS people to work against people who want to divide nation based on language and region. He said Mumbai is not only for marathi's, it is for all Indian people. He said india belongs to indian and if they think employment apportionment is getting reduced then find the region behind it instead of doing cheap politics over language.
I want to add one Quotes over this issue.
"Divide and Rule was policy adopted by the British, we threw them out.
The Legacy is being carried forward by our Politicians and we are supporting them.
Lets color , language and caste not divide us, Take pride in calling yourself INDIAN"

Gayatri Devi's successor fight government for 800 Kg Gold

Gayatri Devi's successor approached the Delhi High Court for getting back nearly 800 kg of gold seized by the government in 1975. The gold, listed as the private property of Gayatri Devi's husband, the late Maharaja Sawai Man Singh, was seized by the Income Tax (IT) department as the family had not declared it to the authorities as stipulated by the Gold Control Act, 1968. Challenging the Gold Control Administrator's (Delhi) 1980 order, Man Singh's successor and eldest son Brig. (retd) Sawai Bhawani Singh, in his petition, contended: 'There was no reason for us to believe that the entire gold had not been declared under the Gold Control Act.'
The erstwhile Jaipur royal family had also lost a legal battle in 2002 when a local court in Jaipur ruled that the gold confiscated from the royal fort was part of a hidden treasure and, under the Indian Treasure Trove Act, 1878, the ownership of any hidden treasure lies with the state government. Members of the former royal family maintained that the fort was part of the family's private property and no one should have any claim over it.

Jaipur Literature Festival 2010 ends with glory

The Jaipur Literature Festival, the five-day extravaganza which the organisers themselves compared to a “Big Indian Wedding”, came to an end here on Monday. The concluding event at Diggi Palace was a political debate on “State v/s People: The State has declared war on its poorest people in the name of development”. The session, for which the participants were not announced in advance, had Union Minister Salman Khursheed defending the State while other panellists included writer-publisher Urvashi Butalia, Jawaharlal Nehru University Professor Moushmi Basu, Tehelka journalist Shoma Choudhary, activist professor Dileep Simeon and British businessman H. S. Narula, one of the promoters of the DSC Jaipur Literature Festival.
The success of the event, the fifth in uninterrupted succession this year, could be measured from the fact that it even attracted politicians this time, though – barring Mr. Khursheed and Rajasthan Tourism Minister Bina Kak— none of them was extended a formal invitation by the organisers who till now, and perhaps rightly too, remain wary of any kind of political association! Among the regular visitors at the festival was former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who on days dropped in at the venue for a second or third time to spend some time in one of the tents—where the sessions were in progress—or to talk to litterateurs and to browse through the books at the temporary book stalls put up at the venue. The other visitors included Rajasthan Health Minister Imaduddin Ahmed and local Congress leader Rajeev Arora, who is also one of the organisers of the Jaipur Virasat Festival, the event which gave birth to the idea of an exclusive literature festival in the city.

Hindi official language not National Language !

Now Gujarat High court deepen the language based row. Court said that "The court also observed that in India, majority of people have accepted Hindi as a national language and many speak Hindi and write in Devanagari script, but it’s not officially the national language. With this observation, a bench headed by Chief Justice S J Mukhopadhaya refused to issue directions that packaged commodities must contain details about goods in Hindi.
Petitioner Suresh Kachhadia had, in 2009, filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Gujarat HC seeking mandamus to the Centre as well as the state government to make it mandatory for manufacturers of goods to print in Hindi, all details of goods like price, ingredients and the date of manufacture. His contention was that the consumers are entitled to know what they are consuming. It was argued that because Hindi is the national language and is understood by a large number of people in the country, directions should be given to publish all such details in Hindi. But the court asked whether there was any notification saying Hindi is India’s national language, for it’s an “official language’’ of this country. No notification ever issued by the government could be produced before the court in this regard. This is because the Constitution has given Hindi the status of the official language and not the national language.

Veer Movie, Pindhari and Rajasthan

Recent Bollywood flick ‘Veer’ directed by Anil Sharma after two consecutive hits like ‘Gadar Ek prem katha’ and ‘Apane’ is Epic movie written by Salman Khan. Veer is an epic film set in 1825 when the British were ruling in India. Movie is about bravery of Pindari Community of Rajasthan, who fight for land against Rajput rulers and British Empire. Movie is not too good but you can watch as rajasthan’s desert, Fort is pictured very well by Anil Sharma.
In Indian History ‘Pindaris’ they were tribes lives in Rajasthan, Western UP and Maharashtra who were invaluable as agents for supplying all the commissariat required by their armies. They were composed of Pathans and Jats etc congregated together solely for purposes of plunder. Predominantly comprising of Hindu, Sikh and Muslim rebels, they came into existence during the 18th century when the Mughal Empire was breaking up. The Pindaris were loosely organized under self-chosen leaders. As per rajasthan history and director it is all about fiction as there was no pindari community in rajasthan even it looks most like 18th centuries tribe worries of Jat, Gurjar and other worrier community of Rajasthan.

SC tells Muslim woman Lift burqa for voter ID else don't vote

Supreme Court on Friday said electoral rolls with photographs cannot be opposed on the grounds that they hurt religious sentiments. "You cannot say I will still be a burqua-clad," a Bench comprising Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan and Justice Deepak Verma said while hearing a petition which contended that publishing photographs of Muslim Gosha women was opposed to their religious belief. The apex court even went on to say if having photographs on election identity cards and electoral rolls goes against religious tenets and hurts religious sentiments of a section of Muslim women, they can decide not to vote. “If they are so religious, don’t vote,” the Bench said.
Tamil Nadu’s M Ajmal Khan had appealed in the SC against the Election Commission’s mandate to carry photo identity cards for voting. Khan had also appealed against the EC’s move to publish electoral rolls with photos of Muslim women. "Suppose you want to contest election, then what about burqua?” the Bench put a poser to Khan’s counsel V Balaji, stating that during polls, posters carrying photographs of candidates are put up all over a constituency. The SC Bench, which posted the matter for final hearing after two weeks, said the photo identity card is necessary for the election purpose. Rajasthan Govt in trouble over Child Marriage Registration

The Rajasthan government is all set to register child marriages. It argues that by registration of all marriages, it will be possible to catch all child marriages and ensure legal rights for girls who become victims of this social evil. As per report over 68% girls in the state are still married off by the age of 18 according to the government's own records. The Gehlot government now plans to register all such marriages. Shanti Dhariwal, Home Minister of Rajasthan says, "We will register all marriages, whether of adults or children. If a child marriage happens, later they have children and then a husband or wife dies. What kind of children will they be called if there is no registration ? What proof will such a wife have if a husband dies, how will she claim any property ? So registration is needed even for child marriages."
Rajasthan Government comes in trouble over Child Marriage Registration when some of news paper brings govt's latest marriage registration rule in limelight. This decision has kicked off a huge controversy as women activists say that by registering child marriages the government is virtually promoting such illegal marriages instead of curbing them. But women and social activists do not buy this justification. They claim that given vote bank calculations and societal pressures the government and administration in the state have turned a blind eye to child marriages a social evil that has crippled the state for centuries.

'NO' Cricket Matches in Delhi till Dec 2010

International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to retain Delhi as a venue for the 2011 World Cup, in spite of the cancellation of the India-Sri Lanka One-dayer on Dec 27 due to unplayable conditions. There will be no fines or penalties imposed on the venue and the world body seems to have gone along with its president David Morgan’s view that Delhi was too important to be blacklisted ahead of a World Cup. The ICC, though, has seconded match referee Alan Hurst’s report that the pitch under consideration was clearly ‘unfit’ and subsequently there has been an agreement between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and ICC that the Kotla will not host any international games until the end of Dec 2010.
BCCI, though, has no issues with not hosting an international game for the said period at the venue. Sources also suggested that Indian Premier League (IPL) matches would be staged as planned at the Kotla. The ICC statement put the ball in BCCI’s court, saying, ‘‘The ICC confirms that no international cricket will be played at the New Delhi ground until the end of Dec 2010. As part of its investigation, the ICC received a submission from the BCCI assuring it that no international match is scheduled and therefore no international match will be played at the ground until the end of 2010. Keeping this in mind, the ICC has decided to endorse this action on the part of BCCI as part of its concluding report.’’

IPL-3 auction 'insult' of Pakistan Cricketers !

IPL Season 3 auction is completed and result was shocking as no player of ICC T20 winner team, Pakistan was picked by any franchise owner because of security and visa reasons. Shahid Afridi and left-arm pacer Sohail Tanvir came under the hammer but had no takers. Hasan said the incident is also a ‘slap on the face of those striving for confidence building between the two countries through artificial means.’ “This has proved that India can never be sincere towards Pakistan”.
He went to the extreme of blaming India for the terror attack on the visiting Sri Lankan cricket in Lahore in March, 2009. “India had attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in a bid to hurt cricket in Pakistan and to bring the country a bad name,” he said. Hasan demanded the government of breaking all diplomatic ties with New Delhi, saying it has been conspiring against Islamabad malign its international image.

Milk price to rise soon in NCR and Northern India

NCR and Whole northern India is facing a shortage of milk. Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said states will have to decide on the demand for price rise to ensure procurement. "We are facing insufficient availability of milk, especially in northern India. In October, we had taken a decision on prices. Today, there is a demand that we should hike the prices," he said. Branded full-cream milk such as Amul and Mother Dairy is selling in the retail market for Rs 28 per litre in Delhi. Dairy cooperatives are pressing for an increase in rates citing problems they face in procuring milk.
Talking to reporters, Pawar, who is already under attack from his political opponents over surging prices of sugar that breached Rs 50 a kg at retail counters, dismissed suggestions that he was for immediate hike in milk prices. "It is a state subject. We don't take decision here. No state has demanded a hike milk prices. Some states have said here that 3-4 months back they had raised milk prices which have improved the supply," he said in New Delhi. So we may see Milk price rise in NCR and Northern India in next 1-2 week.

Marathi knowledge, 15 yrs domicile must for taxi permits: Maharashtra Govt

The Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra decided to give new taxi licenses to only those persons who are well versed in Marathi and have resided in the state for at least 15 years. Amending the taxi permit rules that has given another dimension to migrant politics in the state since new migrants cannot now get taxi permits, the government however clarified that existing taxi drivers, who hold a valid license, would not be affected by the decision.A decision to frame the new rules that could stoke a controversy was taken a meeting of the state cabinet presided by Chief Minister Ashok Chavan. "It has been decided that henceforth licenses will be issued to only those taxi drivers who have been a resident of the state for at least 15 years and can read and write Marathi," an official from the Chief Minister's office said.
The Bombay Taximen's association, the oldest in the city, quickly condemned the decision with its secretary A L Quadros saying it was unacceptable and politically motivated. A sizeable section of over two lakh taxi drivers in Mumbai consists of migrants from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand and the decision could have an adverse fallout on those from these states wanting to earn a living driving taxis. About 4,000 new taxi permits are given each year. "There is an attempt to make it(Taxi services) an organised sector and the drivers who will be employed in it should know Marathi, read Marathi and write Marathi. Such is the proposal of the government," Chavan told reporters.

Vasundhara Raje slam Gehlot Government in Rajasthan

Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje lashed out at the Ashok Gehlot government alleging that the it was involved in ‘diversion politics’ rather than focusing on development. Raje also accused it of “drying out” the state exchequer in the past 13 months. She was addressing a press conference, along with state president Arun Chaturvedi, at the BJP headquarters on Monday. Commenting on corruption charges by the Congress, she said, “There was no corruption. If there was, let the Congress prove it.’’ Chaturvedi added the Gehlot government lacked vision and direction.“All these allegations are being made only to divert the voters’ attentions from development issues,’’ he said.“When the BJP was in power, the state, a part of the ‘Bimaru’ states earlier, was elevated to one with surplus budget. Where were these surplus funds used?,’’ asked Raje. She added that the chief minister himself and his finance secretary have officially accepted that the state is facing a major financial crunch. “Money was available and the state was doing fine till December 10, 2008. What had changed overnight that the Congress repeated its earlier statements of no money after December 13, 2008?’’ she said. Govt to derecognize 44 deemed universities, 3 from Rajasthan

Centre Govt has told the Supreme Court that it has decided to withdraw the "deemed" status to 44 universities in the country alleging these were being run as family fiefdoms rather than on academic considerations. However, to avoid jeopardising the future of nearly two lakhs students enrolled in these universities spread over 13 states, they would be allowed to revert back as affilated colleges of their original universities, the Centre said in an affidavit. "The Review Committee came across several aberrations in the functioning of some of the institutions deemed to be universities. It found undesirable management architecture where families rather than professional academics controlled the functioning of institutions," the affidavit said. This list also includes
