"Whatever is happening in BJP (infighting) is not good and it should stop. Govt finally decided the base price of 3500 Crore for 3G spectrum allocation. Group of Ministers on Thursday fixed Rs 3,500 crore as reserve price for 3G spectrum to be given to a maximum five players initially. The EGoM also decided a base price of Rs 1,750 crore for pan-India WiMax (wireless internet) spectrum and the auction of both will be completed within 90 days, Telecom Minister A Raja told reporters. "I do feel that the Government of India, putting together 3G and Wimax, will easily get Rs 25,000 crore," he said after over a hour-long meeting of the eGoM. The EGoM, headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, decided that five slots in 3G spectrum would be auctioned and amongst the five, one lot has already been allotted to BSNL or MTNL, the minister said, adding that four more slots would be auctioned.
The EGoM lowered the base price to Rs 3,500 crore for pan-India 3G spectrum, from the earlier level of Rs 4,040 crore decided by Raja and Mukherjee, after representations from the private players and their respective lobbies. The Telecom Ministry will now announce the detailed programme for the auction, which will include pre-bid conference in the next couple of weeks, a source said. Compared to five slots in 3G space, in Wimax the government has decided to sell only three slots of spectrum in the first phase. The decision come as a relief to operators who have been getting their networks ready for offering the 3G services. In his Budget for 2009-10, Mukherjee had estimated to raise Rs 35,000 crore from auction of spectrum, both 3G and 2G in future allocations.

Rajasthan assembly revokes suspension of 3 BJP MLA

The Rajasthan assembly Thursday revoked the suspension of three Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) legislators from the house after protests by its members led by former chief minister Vasundhara Raje. The three MLAs -- Gyandev Ahuja, Hemsingh Bhadana and Bhawani Sigh Rajawat -- were suspended from the house for a year for unruly behaviour and indiscipline on July 28. The budget session of the assembly, which was then adjourned indefinitely in the wake of strong protests from the BJP members, started Thursday.
The BJP members boycotted the session and sat on a dharna in the assembly premises demanding that the suspension be revoked. They were led by former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, who is now leader of the opposition. Since all BJP legislators were out of the house, the ruling Congress moved a suo motu motion for ending the suspension of the MLAs arguing that a month was enough. In a one more move towards women empowerment at the grassroots level, the government has approved a proposal to increase reservation for them in panchayats to 50 per cent. A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, decided to bring a bill to amend Article 243(D) of the Constitution to enhance reservation for women in panchayats at all tiers from the current one-third to at least 50 per cent. "This is a path-breaking decision," Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni told reporters. Cairn India will start production in rajasthan from 29 August

Cairn India Ltd will start producing crude from its largest field in Rajasthan on August 29 this year, an area that will help increase the country's oil output by 20%. The explorer, which currently produces around 65,000 barrels of oil from its existing blocks, will hit a production of 30,000 barrels per day (bpd) from Rajasthan in a few weeks, CEO and managing director Rahul Dhir said. It expects to hit a rate of around 1,25,000 bpd next year, and has already tied up offtake of around 60,000 bpd with government-owned oil refiners. Output from Cairn's field starts five months after Reliance Industries Ltd began producing natural gas from an area off the nation's east coast. The fields may help India, which imports over 75% of its energy requirements, attract bidders for 70 oil and gas exploration areas being auctioned this year.
The company said its 15-year-old Ravva field has already contributed $4 billion (Rs 19,000 crore) to government revenues in the form of royalties and revenue share and the Rajasthan block is likely to contribute around Rs 36,000 crore to the public exchequer over the life of the block. Cairn also said the development cost of the Rajasthan block is expected to be around $3.3 billion, or around $3.5 per barrel, 30% lower than the development cost of Reliance Industries' KG D6 block. However, due to the non-availability of the pipeline, the company will have to incur an extra trucking and transportation cost of around $10-12 per barrel, including the cost for shipping the oil from Gujarat to Mangalore.

IIT Professors on mass leave for pay hike

Hundreds of faculty members of the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) Bombay and Roorkee went on mass casual leave Monday to protest disparities in pay. Their peers in Delhi will follow suit Tuesday. "The pay hike given by the government is at least 30 percent less at the lower level (of faculties) and at higher level it is 40 percent less than what we had asked for. It will be difficult for us to attract good faculty members," Saumya Mukherjee, professor at IIT-Bombay, told reporters. Holding placards, the professors came out of the IIT-Bombay campus in a long line. They said that to become a professor at any IIT, a student needs to have a PhD, which involves around six more years of study. This entails loss of income. Had they taken up a government job, they would have earned at least Rs.2.3 million, they claimed. Meanwhile, IIT-Delhi professors have said they would be going on a mass casual leave Tuesday to protest the same issue. There was a meeting of all IITs in Chennai Sunday.

BJP breaks ties with Chautala's INLD for Haryana assembly polls

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to part ways with Indian National Lok Dal led by former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala. The BJP, whose state leadership had strongly objected to the alliance with the INLD last year after the two parties went separate ways in 2004, has been unhappy with the number of seats being offered by INLD to them for the polls. BJP leader Vijay Goel said, "We have decided to go it alone in Haryana." Downplaying the development, INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala said, "We are together and there are no such issues from our side." Asked whether he had received any signal from the BJP, he said, "Neither have we received any indication nor has there been any talk regarding this." INLD state unit president Ashok Arora said, "It is their (BJP) wish. They have a problem, but we would still like to contest jointly."
If BJP had issues with seat-sharing, these could have been sorted out, he said. "We never had any problem with them. It is they who have raised issues. We still consider them our ally," Arora said. A senior state BJP leader said INLD wanted to contest nearly 60 seats in the 90-member assembly. "We cannot always play second fiddle," he said, indicating the decision was taken at the three-day 'Chintan Baithak' of the BJP at Shimla last week.

Swiss banks say yes to US, No to India in Black Money flashing

Swiss banks have provided client details to US, but they have said India is not welcome there on a name-fishing expedition. “Swiss law and even OECD’s Model Tax Convention do not permit fishing expeditions, in other words, the indiscriminate trawling through bank accounts in the hope of finding something interesting. “This means that India cannot simply throw its telephone book at Switzerland and ask if any of these people have a bank account here,” a top official at Swiss Bankers Association said. Last week, the US reached an agreement with Switzerland, under which top Swiss bank UBS gave details of 4,450 secret accounts to the Internal Revenue Service.
The secrecy shield provided by Swiss banks have always been a big issue in India, including during the campaign for this year’s general elections, and the government recently said that it has approached Switzerland seeking details about bank accounts held by Indians there. The official noted that the Swiss bankclient confidentiality has never been 100% absolute and Swiss legislators have built in provisions for it to be lifted during criminal investigations and also in many civil cases and it has also evolved over time. so this will be a reason for big smile for many indian politician and industrialist.

England win Ashes Series 2009 by 2-1

England reclaimed the Ashes on fourth afternoon at The Oval by beating 2007 winner Australia by 197 runs in final test. Brave resistance - led by a century of incredible mental fortitude from Michael Hussey - was unpicked, wicket by wicket, minute by minute, until, at 5.47pm, and with an expectant crowd willing on the moment of glory, Hussey prodded Graeme Swann to Alastair Cook at short leg to spark the celebrations into life. At the moment of victory, all of England's players rushed into a huddle on the edge of the square - all except for one, that is. In his moment of Test retirement, Andrew Flintoff's first instinct was to seek out and console the crestfallen centurion Hussey, whose 121 from 263 balls had given his side a hope of salvation, but whose careless running between the wickets during a fraught afternoon session had been the single biggest factor in their demise. By calling for the single that led to the run-out of his captain and resistance-leader Ricky Ponting for 66, Hussey is unlikely to recall this particular innings with any fondness whatsoever.
Score Summary:
England 332 and 373 for 9
Australia 160 and 348 (Hussey 121, Ponting 66, Swann 4-120)
England won 5 Match Ashes Test series by 2-1

Vasundhara Raje may resign tomorrow

Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, who had been asked by BJP High command to step down as Leader of Opposition, will meet L K Advani in New Delhi on Saturday and in all probability hand over her resignation. There are still possibility that Raje is also likely to accept the post of general secretary at the national level, which the party high command has been offering her in return of the Leader of Opposition post for almost two months now. According to sources in the party, Raje is also likely to meet party president Rajnath Singh and take up the matter of suspension of the two MLAs with the high command.
However Gulabchand Kataria the former home minister may be her replacement. Raje loyalists are now hoping that she makes an impressive return to state politics before the next assembly elections four years down the line, much like what chief minister Ashok Gehlot did. After Congress lost in the December 2003 assembly elections, Gehlot, who was the chief minister then, moved to Delhi and was in the state mostly to attend assembly sessions. However, just before the 2008 assembly elections, Gehlot was back in the picture.

India crashed out of Nehru Cup 2009

Defending champions India conceded an early goal and then failed to convert the chances that came their way to go down 0-1 against Lebanon in the opening match of the Nehru Cup football tournament in New Delhi on Wednesday. It was a disappointing start for India, who were looking for their second consecutive title after 2007, as they were done in by a fifth minute strike by Lebanon defender Ali Al Saad who drilled in a powerful free kick into Indian goal from near the 'D'circle. Playing their first international match since 14th January, the home team dominated for most part of the match except for the first 15 minutes in front of a large home crowd who filled more than half of Ambedkar Stadium under floodlights.
Lebanon, who were playing without their four regular national players, got their first opportunity as early as in the fourth minute, from a move initiated by striker Mahmoud El Ali. El Ali's strike partner Mohammad Ghaddar collected the ball and sent a low cross from the right only to find Ali Hamam's left footer blocked by an Indian defender in front of goal.

Cairn India will start Oil production at rajasthan plant this Month

Cairn will start pumping crude from its Rajasthan fields later this month. Initial production will be 30,000 barrels per day (bpd) from the first train, and a second processing system of 50,000 bpd is expected to start by the end of the year. 'We intend to keep our costs low and see production cost at about USD 3.5 per barrel. Transportation cost will be another USD 1.5 (per barrel),' Chief Executive Officer Rahul Dhir said. The commercial terms and pricing negotiations for the initial offtake of the Rajasthan crude have been concluded with IOC and MRPL, considering the last six months pricing it translates to a 10-15 percent discount to Brent. Cairn India holds a 70 percent stake in RJ-ON-90/1 block in western India and state-run explorer Oil & Natural Gas Corp holds the balance.
Cairn is spending USD 1 billion to build a pipeline to transport the crude to coast of Gujarat. Dhir said it was expected to be operational by the fourth quarter. Chairman Bill Gammell earlier this week told shareholders the company was targeting production of 125,000 bpd in the first half of 2010, and saw potential to increase peak production from the Rajasthan fields far above the development plan estimate of 175,000 bpd. Cairn India Ltd expects to hold costs at about USD 5 per barrel for crude oil produced from its Rajasthan fields, a top official said, helping the energy explorer reap strong revenues this fiscal year.

Jaswant Singh on Wednesday fell a victim for praising Pakistan founder Mohammed Ali Jinnah when the BJP summarily expelled him from the party. The decision to expel Singh, a Lok Sabha member and a former Union Minister, was taken at the Parliamentary Board of the party which met in Shimla during the opening session of the three-day brainstorming session of the top leaders. BJP President Rajnath Singh, who had on Tuesday issued a statement totally distancing the party from Jaswant Singh's book "Jinnah - India, Partition, Independence", announced the decision to the media in Shimla. Rajasthan BJP leader Vasundhara raje's resignation agitaion is taking new strength after suspension of two MLAs Rajendra Rathod and Gyandev Ahuja from BJP. The suspension of two MLAs loyal to Vasundhara Raje appears to have further stoked the flames of dissension in Rajasthan BJP. "All the 54 party MLAs have submitted a signed memorandum to Raje last evening," group of MLAs loyal to Raje said. The memorandum has authorised Raje to take up the revocation of suspension of two MLAs Rajendra Rathod and Gyandev Ahuja, the lawmaker, who did not wish to be named, said. Rathod and Ahuja, who were spearheading Raje's campaign against high command's decision asking her to quit as Leader of Opposition following the BJP's poll debacle, today rejected the charge saying they have not indulged in any indiscipline or done anything against the party.
While suspended BJP MLA Said "We have not indulged in any indiscipline. We have not done anything against the party. Neither have we spoken against the central leaders, nor against the state leaders or the parliamentary board," Ahuja said. In a similar vein, Rathore said "We have not done any crime. Sehwag may play for Haryana Ranji, threaten to quit Delhi team

Delhi Ranji team, skipper Virender Sehwag has threatened to part ways with the squad, alleging interference in selection matters by the DDCA Sports Committee members. Sehwag, who is currently in Bangalore undergoing rehabilitation for his injured shoulder, has been told to put his decision on hold till he meets the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Arun Jaitley. The meeting is likely to take place on August 27 or 28 to discuss the matter. While DDCA's Sports Secretary Sunil Dev said he has not received any communication from Sehwag nor has he approached him for a No Objection Certificate to play for some other state. But a top DDCA source said Sehwag's threat to quit was just a "pressure tactic" to bring in a couple of his players in the Ranji squad. "He wants to bring Mayank Tehlan and Pradeep Sangwan into the team. But since the Delhi team is well set, it is not possible. That is the reason why he is making such threats," .
Sehwag has claimed that some selectors group together to force a player of their choice into the side, leaving the captain and selection committee chairman powerless. He has also alleged manipulation in the selection of Delhi under-16 and under-19 teams. The Delhi team, which won the 2007-08 Ranji title, failed to even make the knock-out stage last season. Sehwag did not play a single match last season because of his engagements with the national team. "I am trying to leave Delhi and play for Haryana. I spoke to the Delhi District and Cricket Association (DDCA) president, Mr. Arun Jaitley, and he has asked me to discuss the issue with him and then take a decision. If I am not satisfied with the outcome of our meeting, I will surely leave Delhi," Sehwag was quoted in a news channel.

Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar return to the one day squad after a long break while Virender Sehwag failed to meet the fitness deadline in the 15 member squad for the tri-series in Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy in South Africa. Dravid replaces Rohit Sharma, who managed 15 runs in three ODI innings in the West Indies and 43 runs in three innings against major opposition in the World Twenty20. The selectors didn't risk taking Virender Sehwag, who is yet to fully recover from his shoulder injury, to the Champions Trophy. He was not expected to make it to the Sri Lanka tri-series anyway.
Dravid last played an ODI for India in October 2007, but his form in the second IPL season in South Africa -where the Champions Trophy will be held and the vulnerability of India's younger middle-order batsmen in the recent World Twenty20 prompted the selectors to fall back on his experience and technique.
IndianTeam: Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni (capt/wk), Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Ashish Nehra, RP Singh, Amit Mishra, Dinesh Karthik, and Abhishek Nayar.

Though Lin raced to three point lead, Saina was able to stop her, though for a moment only, at 18-20, picking up a point from Lin's netting her drop. But the Chinese keeping the shuttle low on her return wrapped up the game and the match 21-19.
