Wind screens of the official car of Rajasthan Director General of Police Harish Meena were smashed as a group of youth pelted stones on it in Khinkha village of Sikar district today. The DGP was on a visit to the village to meet the family of police officer Phool Mohammad, who was burnt alive by a mob in Surwal village near Sawai Madhopur last week, to console his family members. The youth -- agitated over killing of the officer -- resorted to stone pelting while Mr Meena was returning after meeting the family. Besides, wind screens of some other vehicles were also damaged.
Moderate Earthquake in Jammu & Kashmir
Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital Srinagar and other parts of the valley were jolted by a 5.7-magnitude earthquake on Monday afternoon, an official said. Sonam Lotus, the director of the local weather office, said: 'An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale hit Srinagar and other parts of the valley at 3.19 p.m. 'The quake was of moderate intensity with its epicentre in the Hindukush region at latitude 36.5 degrees north and longitude 17.9 degrees east,' she said. The tremors were felt by residents of Srinagar, but no loss of life or property has been reported so far.

Saina Nehwal enter Swiss Open final
India's badminton star Saina Nehwal defeated Bae Youn-Joo of South Korea 21-19, 13-21, 21-14 to storm into the final of the Swiss Open Grand Prix on Saturday. Second-seeded Saina beat the Korean, seeded fourth, in 58 minutes. The first game was close with the Korean gaining early ascendancy, leading 10-4, but Saina fought back and levelled at 15-15. It was neck-and-neck battle from there on and the score read 19-19, but Saina held her nerves and pocketed took two points to take the game.

1. ‘The Times of India’ continues to be the largest read English daily of the country while maintaining its growth. The results released for the IRS Q4 2010 show that TOI has gained 1,70,000 readers to take its AIR at 74.24 lakh as compared to 72.54 lakh in IRS Q3 2010. The No.1 English daily had added 1.66 lakh readers in the third quarter and 53,000 in Q2 2010. Thus The Times of India has added 3.89 lakh readers over the year.
2. The No.2 English daily ‘Hindustan Times’ has also maintained the growth momentum by adding 75,000 readers in the last quarter of IRS 2010. It has registered the AIR of 35.92 lakh in IRS Q4 2010 as compared to 35.17 lakh in IRS Q3 2010. HT had added 64,000 readers in the third quarter of IRS 2010 while it had lost 14,000 readers in Q2 2010. Overall, the second largest read English daily has added 1.25 lakh readers over 34.67 readers in IRS Q1 2010.
3. The No.3 English daily of the country ‘The Hindu’ has seen a slight growth in its readership this quarter. Its current AIR stands at 21.15 lakh as compared to 21.05 lakh in the previous quarter. The Hindu had an AIR of 21.85 lakh in Q2 while it had recorded an AIR of 21.59 lakh in Q1 2010. The newspaper has lost 54,000 readers in 2010.
4. ‘The Telegraph’ stands firm at No. 4 position by adding 41,000 readers in its AIR in IRS Q4 2010. Its AIR now stands at 12.38 lakh as compared to 11.97 lakh in the previous quarter. The daily had lost 14,000 readers in Q3 and added 7,000 readers in Q2 of IRS 2010. The Telegraph had recorded 12.11 lakh in Q2 and 12.04 lakh in IRS Q1 2010. The newspaper has added 34,000 readers over the year.
5. At No.5 is ‘Deccan Chronicle’ which has registered a marginal decline of mere 5,000 readers in the fourth quarter of IRS 2010. Its current AIR stands at 10.73 lakh in IRS Q4 2010 as compared to 10.78 lakh in last survey results. The daily had lost 74,000 readers in Q3 but added 28,000 readers in Q2 of IRS 2010. It had an AIR of 11.52 lakh in Q2 and 11.24 lakh in Q1 2010. Thus, Deccan Chronicle has lost 51,000 readers over the year 2010.

The fourth edition of IRS quarterly data also indicates a growth in overall readership of vernacular publications. Top 10 Hindi News Papers in India:
1. The No. 1 Hindi daily ‘Dainik Jagran’ has recorded growth by adding 1,16,000 readers in its AIR this quarter. The newspaper had added 25,000 readers in the third quarter of IRS 2010. The daily had lost 4 lakh readers in IRS Q2 2010. Its average issue readership now stands at 1,60,66,000 in the current survey which was 1,59,50,000 in IRS Q3 2010, 1,59,25,000 in Q2 2010 and 1.63 crore in Q1 2010. Thus, Dainik Jagran has lost nearly 2.47 lakh readers over the year.
2. At second spot, ‘Dainik Bhaskar’ has again registered a considerable growth and added 5,04,000 readers to its AIR in this quarter. It has registered the AIR of 1,39,92,000 in IRS Q4 2010 as compared to 1,34,88,000 in the previous quarter. Dainik Bhasker Group’s flagship publication had gained 1.85 lakh readers in Q3 while it maintained the status quo in second quarter and added 4.5 lakh reader in first quarter of IRS 2010. Thus, Dainik Bhaskar has grown by 5% over the first quarter survey and added 6.63 lakh readers as compared to the Q1 2010.
3. Hindi daily ‘Hindustan’ has also maintained its high growth rates. The No.3 Hindi daily of the country has added 6.13 lakh readers in the current quarter. Further strengthening its position at No.3, its AIR now stands at 1,14,52,000 which was 1,08,39,000 in the previous quarter. The Hindi daily from Hindustan Media Ventures had added 6.96 lakh readers in IRS Q3 2010, 2 lakh in Q2 2010 and 5.78 lakh readers in IRS Q1 2010. Thus, riding on the expansion plans, the newspaper has added 15.38 lakh readers during this year.
4. The growth chart is continuing for the fourth largest Hindi daily of the country ‘Amar Ujala’ also where the newspaper has added 57,000 readers in the fourth quarter of IRS 2010. The AIR of Amar Ujala stands at 86,40,000 in IRS Q4 2010 as compared to 85,83,000 in IRS Q3 2010. The daily had added 1.66 lakh readers in Q3 but lost 74,000 in IRS Q2 2010. Thus, Amar Ujala now has 1.49 lakh more readers in the fourth quarter as compared to IRS Q1 2010.
5. At No.5 position, Hindi daily ‘Rajasthan Patrika’ has registered a marginal decline of 51,000 readers in its AIR in the Q4 of IRS 2010. Its current AIR stands at 71,66,000 as compared to 72,17,000 in IRS Q3, 2010. The newspaper had added 3.17 lakh readers in the third quarter of 2010 and 2.15 lakh readers in IRS Q2 2010. The newspaper has over all grown by 7.2% over the first quarter and added 4.81 lakh readers during this year.
6. ‘Punjab Kesri’ is holding the No. 6 position firmly by recovering its losses in previous quarter and added 60,000 readers in IRS Q4 2010.
