Dipendera Singh elected speaker in Rajasthan

Dipendera Singh, Congress MLA from Sri Madhopur in Sikar district was elected as the assembly speaker on the second day of the session on Friday. Shekhawat’s name for the high post was proposed by chief minister Ashok Gehlot and seconded by leader of opposition Vasundhara Raje. Dipendra singh(57), succeeds former speaker Sumitra Singh (BJP), who lost election from Mandawa constituency in Jhunjhunu district. A four-time MLA, Dipendra was first elected from Sri Madhopur in 1980 and later won from there thrice in 1993, 1998 and 2008. He was a minister of state in the previous Gehlot government.
