Morro - Free Antivirus software from Microsoft

Microsoft will soon lauch its free Anti virus software Morro (Microsoft Security Essentials) that will provide protection from viruses, spyware, rootkits, and trojans for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Strong news is coming in that Microsoft is ready to launch its free anti-virus software called Morro for personal computers. This is a huge competition in making for security software leaders like Symantec Norton Antivirus and McAfee Anitvirus software. If Microsoft starts bundling their antivirus software with Windows, much like Windows Defender, it would definitely hit sales of expensive security suites loaded with encryption, firewalls, password protection, parental controls and data backup. Since it will be well integrated, it will protect Windows better in conjunction with Windows Firewall and Defender, without slowing the computer.
Code-named “Morro,” this streamlined solution will be available in the second half of 2009. “Customers around the world have told us that they need comprehensive, ongoing protection from new and existing threats, and we take that concern seriously,” said Amy Barzdukas, senior director of product management for the Online Services and Windows Division at Microsoft. “This new, no-cost offering will give us the ability to protect an even greater number of consumers, especially in markets where the growth of new PC purchases is outpaced only by the growth of malware.” Beta Version is out Now.
