Tilonia, a new hope of light for Developing countries

Tiloniya a small village on National Highway No- 8, 100 km from Jaipur and 45 km from ajmer is a hope of light to different countries. Last week an African women endeavour to light up the dark continent by learning the skills of solar training at Barefoot College in Tilonia. As many as 40 illiterate and/or semi-illiterate women, especially poor mothers and grandmothers, from African countries -- Ethiopia, Mozambique, Sudan, Djibouti, Sierra Leone and Senegal -- are being trained at Social Work Research Centre(SWRC) Tilonia for past about four months. They are learning skills such as creating and manipulating solar panel systems that can spark fire to cook food. In six-month training, they will become a solar panel engineer and would return home with sparkling dreams. They will able to install the panels in their villages, and electrify them with solar energy. Mr Roy said Barefoot College have trained hundreds of semi-literate and illiterate women ''many of them are grandmothers'' from developing and least developed countries to be solar engineers.
