Srinath becomes match referee in Champions Trophy

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that former India pacer Javagal Srinath will officiate as match referee in the upcoming Champions Trophy slated to be held from September 22 in South Africa. Srinath will officiate in the September 23 match between Pakistan and West Indies, September 25 match between Sri Lanka and England, the September 27 game featuring New Zealand and Sri Lanka and the September 30 Australia vs Pakistan encounter. Announcing details of the umpire and match referee appointments for the group stage of the September 22-October 5 Champions Trophy yesterday, ICC said Srinath will join former New Zealand captain Crowe and ex-Sri Lanka batsman Mahanama to officiate in the elite eight-nation tournament. The on-field responsibilities will be shared by eight of the ICC Elite Panel Umpires Billy Bowden, Aleem Dar, Steve Davis, Ian Gould, Daryl Harper, Tony Hill, Asad Rauf and Simon Taufel, ICC said in a statement. He is today match referee in match played between Pakistan and West Indies at SA.
