Rajasthan witness 60% polling in panchayat election

Rajasthan witness around 60% polling in first phase of panchayat elections on Wednesday. The polling was peaceful except for some stray incidents of booth capturing in Sawai Madhopur and Bharatpur districts, said state election commissioner A K Pandey. Elections were held for 390 zilla parishad posts and 1,915 posts in 89 panchayat samitis. Though the turnout was not very impressive in the initial hours due to fog, voting gradually gathered momentum as the day progressed. The polling percentage was just 8% in the first two hours but rose to 26.19% by 1 pm. Afternoon saw brisk polling as large queues could be seen outside polling booths.
Result of panchayat election will be declared on 8th February 2010 at district head quarters while Sarpanch election will be held tomorrow at gram panchayat.
