Abhay deol's Road Movie shooting experience in Rajasthan by Director

Director dev benegal share experience while shooting road movie with Abhay deol's in Rajasthan.
He said Shooting for Road, Movie in the soaring temperatures of Rajasthan was no cakewalk When director Dev Benegal chose to shoot his film Road, Movie in Rajasthan little did he know about the adversities he would face there. The film follows Vishnu (Abhay Deol) a restless young man, who wants to get away from his family business. He starts a moving cinema business, travelling all over Rajasthan in a truck. Since the story was set in Rajasthan, Benegal wanted an authentic look and was determined to shoot in Kutch, and in and around Jaisalmer. “I was told that since we were shooting in the months of August-September, which is the season just after the monsoons, we would get good weather. But from the onset itself the weather played truant. It was 49 degrees Celsius when we reached Jaisalmer, and it soon shot to 52 degrees,” said Benegal. He recalled how every day there would be a new story on the sets because of the intense heat. “The cameras started melting, nimbu pani had to be served constantly and some people almost fainted!” he grinned.
The truck is an integral character of the film and was especially designed to suit the local terrains of Rajasthan. Though it had a new engine it had the body of an old Chevy and refused to travel more than 50 km per hour. Abhay recalled how the wind shield was too low and he had to bend to look through. “Not only was it non-ac but three of us stuffed were inside. At times it became almost unbearable to sit in there,” laughed Abhay. But facing all the adversities bonded the whole cast and crew together. Said Benegal, “We would cook together, eat together and handle all the crises together. We became a family.” Road, Movie release on March 5
