Sariska Field Director removed after death of tiger

Sariska Field Director and Chief Conservator of Forest K K Garg has been removed from the post in the aftermath of death of tiger ST-1 which was translocated to Sariska from Ranthambhor about two years ago. Mr Garg has been transferred as Chief Convervator of Forest in Kota. ''Tiger ST-1, a 5-year-old male, was found dead in suspicious circumstances in the Kankwadi block of forests along the Rajorgarh village on November 14 night. The feline was reportedly given poison probably by denizens of villages situated in the sanctuary areas.
The death rendered a big setback to efforts of revival of the tiger population which entirely was wiped out from the sanctuary by the poachers about six years ago. In the revival bid, two tigers and three tigresses were translocated from Ranthambhore during the past about two years. Union Environment and Forest Minister Jairam Ramesh who had visited Sariska last week had held Forest administration responsible for the death of the tiger. Two officials of the sanctuary had already been placed under suspension.
