Vijender Singh wins gold medal in boxing

Ace pugilist Vijender Singh trounced Uzbekistan's Abbos Atoev 7-0 in the final of the men's 75 kg category to take the gold medal. It was India's fourth gold of the day and 14th overall. Vijender and Atoev had fought twice before with the score at one apiece. But on this occasion Vijender packed too many punches for his rival. The win made up for the defeats of Santhosh Kumar and Manpreet Singh in two other final bouts. Santhosh was routed 16-1 by Daniyar Yeleussinov of Kazakhstan in the 64 kg category and had to settle for the silver. Manpreet was beaten 1-8 by Mohammad Ghossoun of Syria to finish with a silver in the men's 91 kg boxing.
