Mystery over death of Former Rajasthan DGP Shantanu Kumar

Former Director General of Rajasthan Police Shantanu Kumar died here today in mysterious circumstances. 72-year Kumar, a relative of former External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh, was taken to SMS Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, according to the Emergency Department head Dr.Mukesh Sharma. A postmortem was conducted after obtaining special permission from the district administration before the body was handed over to Kumar''s family members, he said adding the post mortem report would be available tomorrow.
According to police sources, the former DGP was brought to the hospital from his farmhouse on Kalwad Road (Jhotwara) by his brother Anil Kumar Singh and son Hemant. At first, the family members tried to reach a private hospital in Vaishali Nagar, but when Kumar's condition deteriorated, he was rushed to the SMS hospital. Hospital sources said Kumar was frothing at the mouth and his lips had turned blue, suggesting intake of a poisonous substance. Gehlot learnt about the incident when he was midway through a meeting with the ministers for reviewing the Prashasan gaon ke sang' programme at the CMO. Tourism minister Kak, who is a family friend of the Kumars, received the information at the meeting and immediately left for the hospital. State chief secretary Salauddin Ahmed and DGP Rajasthan HC Meena had started coordinating with the doctors while Kumar was being brought to the SMS hospital.
