Republic Day celebrated in Rajasthan

The 62nd Republic Day was celebrated today with traditional gaiety and fervour throughout Rajasthan. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot hoisted the tricolour and took the salute from the impressive parade by combined contingent of the Para Military Forces, Rajasthan Police, NCC cadets, Scouts and Guides, at the state-level function in the SMS Stadium here this morning. School Children enthralled the spectators with impressive drill and colourful cultural programme. Mr Gehlot rewarded and felicitated 37 officials, police personnel and people from different walks of life for their achievements, services and contribution for the cause of the nation.
Traditionally, the state Governor hoists flag at the state-level function on the Republic Day but since the state does not have full-time Governor for past several months, the duty was discharged by the Chief Minister. Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil has been holding additional charge of the gubernatorial office here since the death of Governor Prabha Rau. The Chief Minister also unfurled the National flag at functions held at the historic Manak Chowk Chauper, and the State Secretariat. Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Deependra Singh Shekhawat hoisted the tricolour at Assembly Complex. Likewise, functions/programmes were held in all districts, schools, colleges and offices of various political parties.
