Kirori Lal Meena calls off agitation

Kirori Lal and his wife Golma Devi on Friday called off their over a-week- long agitation after the Rajasthan government agreed to their demand of a fresh probe into alleged starvation deaths in the tribal region of Udaipur. The stir was called off after Meena held third round of talks with state tourism minister Bina Kak and energy minister Jitendra Singh. The government has agreed to set up a committee to probe the starvation deaths and assured that steps will be taken to curb corruption, the Dausa MP said. The couple had sat on dharna on Thursday last week demanding steps to curb corruption and Devi, a Rajasthan minister, converted her dharna into fast-unto-death on Tuesday. Meanwhile, ten contractual female employees demanding permanent job under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) also called off their agitation after the government assured them of appropriate steps.
