Nation celebrates Raksha Bandhan Today

Nation celebrates Raksha Bandhan, Festival of affection and Protection between Brothers and sisters Today(13 August 2011). President Pratibha Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday wished people on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and hoped that the festival would strengthen goodwill in the society. In her message, Patil said, "I express my warm greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens in India and abroad." "May this festival strengthen fraternal feelings and the spirit of kindness and goodwill in our society, as we strive collectively for the well-being of our people," the President said. Ansari said the festival promotes harmonious social life by reaffirming one's faith in the traditional values of love and protection. He called upon the people to imbibe the ideals associated with this festival to foster the spirit of amity, harmony and goodwill.
"Raksha Bandhan is celebrated all over the country to strengthen the fraternal bonds of affection between brothers and sisters," he said. In his message, Singh said that the unique festival of fosters community bonding irrespective of caste or creed and highlights the importance of women in Indian society. "The country needs to renew its commitment to a just society free of all prejudice. May the festival bring happiness and peace to all," he said.
