Rail Budget 2012-13 Live Highlights, Today 14th March 2012: Union Rail Budget 2012-13 to be announced Today (14th March 2012) at 11:00 AM onwards by Union Railway Minister Mr Dinesh Trivedi. The rail budget for this year has lots of expectations for common people with many key highlights of the budget. Here comes the Live Highlights from Parliament:

Railway targeting passenger growth of 5.4 per cent in fiscal 2013.
Ordinary working expenses fixed at Rs 75,650 cr, an increase of Rs 2,000  crore over Budget Estimates; Pension payments also up by Rs 1,000 crore.
Gross traffic receipts fixed at  Rs`1.03 trillion crore, short by  Rs`2,322 crore of budget estimates.
Passenger earnings to grow to over 36,000 crore, gross traffic receipt seen at  Rs1.3 trillion

Passenger fare hikes range from 2 paisa per km to 30 paisa per km
Passenger fare hike: AC 2tier 15 paisa per km AC first class at 30 paise per km

High speed passenger corridor: study on six  corridors underway. Study on Mumbai-Pune corridor complete.
Propose to  set up housekeeping committee for train and station hygiene
Plan to set up three disaster management training centres at Bengaluru, Kharagpur and Lucknow
Introduction of alternate train accommodation system for wait-listed passengers on other trains
321 escalators to be installed at important stations
Propose to raise passenger amenities allocation from Rs762 crore to Rs1012 crore
Connectivity to join Agartala with Akura in Bangladesh
Wagon factory to be set up in Orissa.
Rail wheel plant at Chhapra produced ready for commissioning on 2012-13
In light of limited support from government, Railways needs to rely on PPP significantly.
Elevated car project from Churchgate to virar through PPP route to be studied.
Conversion of DC to AC fully achieved on Western Railway, Central Railway to be complete in 2012-2013.

19,000 km of 1 lakh km sees 80 per cent of traffic, signalling to be upgraded on this stretch first
Five focus areas: track, bridges, signaling and communications, station, and freight terminals
Annual outlay target at Rs 60,100 crore: Railways Minister
