Nagaur Lok sabha Seat:Nagaur Lok sabha seat covered with seven districts namely Bikaner, Churu, Sikar, Jaipur, Ajmer, Pali, Jodhpur. Nagaur is the fifth largest district in Rajasthan with a vast terrain spreading over 17,718 sq. K.M. In 2004 elections, Bhanwar Singh Dangawas of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won from Nagaur Parliamentary constituency defeating Ramraghunath of the Congress party. Bhanwar Singh Dangawas secured 45.08 per cent of the total valid votes, while Ramraghunath got 33.89 per cent votes.
Congress Candidate from Nagaur:
Congress named Jyoti Mirdha as lok sabha candidate for Nagaur Lok sabha Seat in elections 2009. She is a doctor by profession and is the grand daughter of veteran Congress leader Nathuram Mirdha. She is doctor by profession, Jyoti is expected to bring the colour of her grandfather in the Marwar. Party sources feel, she will be able to read the pulse of the voters pretty well, since she is well acquainted with the Congress culture. Her father-in-law Krishna Gehlaut is also a Congress leader in Haryana. So having a long political background she is ready to hit political ground.
BJP Candidate from Nagaur:
The BJP has nominated Bindu Choudhary, who switched from the Congress, against Jyoti Mirdha. She is also jila pramukh of nagaur. Bindu choudhary is the daughter of two time MP, Ram Raghunath. If the Jat votes get divided, then the others will determine the outcome. That would depend on party management of the polls.
Role of Jat votebank:
Nagaur is having around 30-40 % jat votebank. Nagaur is known as the epicentre of Jat politics and the region has great regard for the late Nathuram Mirdha. A legend in the farming community, the late Nathuram Mirdha had served the Nagaur seat for decades and won the seat when the Congress lost most of the seats in north India in 1977. Both of them are Jats, both come from illustrious backgrounds and both have their votebanks. So as jat votebank are divided, development and local issue will play the main role in this election.
