The Rajasthan Government has sought explanation from Udaipur Superintendent of Police and suspended a Dy SP for delay in arrest of a British woman rape case convict despite directives from the Supreme Court. Home Minister Shanti Kumar Dhariwal said today that Deputy Superintendent Brijpal Soni, who was heading the special team constituted to re-arrest the convict, had been placed under suspension. Besides this, explanation had been sought from the district police chief and a new team of officials, headed by Zonal Inspector General of Police.
The convict --owner of a guest House--in Ambamata police station area in Udaipur was convicted by the fast track court last year for rape on a British woman. However, the Rajasthan High Court later ordered suspension of his sentense and granted him bail too. In appeal the apex court had ordered his re-arrest and directed the police in January this year, to arrest him soon. However, he could not be arrested so far and the Supreme Court on Monday made serious observations against the police.
