PM Review NREGA Scheme in Ramsar, Rajasthan

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reviewed the progress of work under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in Rajasthan and inaugurated a handicrafts workshop, organised by Self Help Groups. Dr Singh took stock of the work being done under the NREGA and interacted with labourers also. In view of the drought situation prevailing in the state, women labourers demanded an increase in their daily wages to Rs 150 a day from Rs 100 at present and working days to 200 from 100. They also urged the Prime Minister that the minimum educational requirement for the post of a sarpanch under the reservation for women in Panchayats should be eighth standard pass.
Dr Singh also inspected small traditional wells in Ramsar. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot informed him about water conservation being undertaken in the area in detail. He also planted a six-foot-long neem plant.
