Mansoon in Rajasthan by 21 June

Several places in the state experienced duststorm and light rains overnight, which gave a respite from the heatwave conditions even as the South-west monsoon is likely to reach Rajasthan by June 20-21. Drizzle or light rain were reported in Udaipur, Bikaner, Sriganganagar, Pilani, and Churu districts on Monday, while overcast conditions prevailed at most places, a Met official said. The pre-monsoon activity has begun. The average date for the monsoon to arrive in the state was June 16-17. “However, there could be a week’s delay in the south-eastern regions of Kota, Jhalawar, Banswara, and Dungarpur,” an official said. The delay is attributed to the cyclonic storm Phet which disturbed the onward march of monsoon.
Meanwhile, the state government has directed the relief department in 33 districts to prepare for any exigencies during the monsoon, another official said. The primary health centres have been asked to take precautions to contain malaria and swine flu during the monsoon.
