Rajasthan HC issues notice to Govt for water supply

The Rajasthan High Court has issued notice to the State Government on a petition filed seeking directives to the officials to maintain sufficient water level in the Jawai Dam for supply of drinking water to Jodhpur, Pali and 234 nearlby villages for the next two years. A High Court division bench comprising Chief Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Kailash Joshi yesterday ordered issuance of the notices to the state government officials concerned on the petition filed by former Pali Councillor Shanti Lal Jain and nine others.
The petitioners told the court that the policy of allotting higher priority to supply of drinking water was being violated by the officials and more weightage was being given to supply for irrigation. The petition stated that a high-level meeting recently decided to reserve only 1730 Million Cubic Feet(MCFT) of the 5039 MCFT water in the dam for drinking purpose. They demanded that 3300 MCFT water be reserved for supply of drinking water. The notice served through Additional Advocate General Anand Purohit, is returnable within two weeks.
